ParticipantI mean winning with Carson, Troy, BKU, Cody, Patterson, Cushing, Matthew’s, Leinart, Bush, White, BMW, Steve Smith, Khalil Bros, Chow. Just an all time collection of talent which yes he was responsible for.
Just saying. I know his Seattle SB made him untouchable but man what a falloff
im being a mostly serious. Hated to the hire. Loved the presser. I can listen to Pete for hours. Loved the ride. It was incredible.
it was a weak pac 12. No Saban at Bama. No Kirby. SEC was very human back then.

Participantno. He is the second best Coach SC has ever had. CLR is a disaster head coach. Everything from Grinch to recruiting to ridiculous nervous breakdown is very UN-Trojan. 162 is one hell of a quarterback coach. That’s it, Which is the only reason he’s better than Fat Boy. sc

ParticipantI hear that. Without question the 2nd most successful/accomplished Aka resume.
my question is without those all time talents would he be a footnote and another failed USC coach. Like CLR.
I mean he’s better than Hugs And CLR but that ain’t saying much. Thats not a legend. Thats competency

ParticipantCarroll will also be remembered for two incredible coaching brain farts.
1. Why didn’t they give the ball to Marshawn Lynch in the Super Bowl down near the goal line?2. Why wasn’t the Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush on the field, even if nothing else than a decoy, on a fourth-and-one play against Texas?

Participanthe is responsible but had nothing to do with either call. Kind of like 162 and all the special teams lapses.
Pete’s biggest mistake was getting rid of Norm Chow. Norm had a system that with SC’s talent Pete provided was simply not defendable.
What have Kiffin (pills) and Sark (booze) ever won? waiting. sc

troystoryParticipantDude, he got old. Happens to everyone. Incredible career. He’s the best CFB/NFL coach combo of all time. Top ten FB coach of all time.

Participant“He’s the best CFB/NFL coach combo of all time.”
======There are good arguments, but I will still go with Jimmy Johnson.

ParticipantPete could have been the undisputed GOAT. If he ran a sweep against Texas and ran Marshawn Lynch.
Jimmy had two SBs and 1 Natty.
Pete had 1 SB and 2 Nattys.
both had marginal success outside of their peaks.
Pete was 33-31 in NFL before USC.
Jimmy was so so replacing Shula in Miami.
we Tend to forget the lows with the legends

ParticipantCurrently? No. His past accolades are what they are, but there are no real arguments that he is still great.

ParticipantYou mad, bro? Sorry I made fun of your shithole town, you can always turn in your little pouch of gold and move somewhere nicer, and not near the railroad, if you can afford the property tax increase. I’ll tell you what, just to bury the hatchet the next time I drive by, I will stop and take a dump in one of your fine establishments. I’ll even sign the stall door to let you know I was there.

ParticipantAs far as getting some action, well SC, that’s what two adults who love each other do. And if they’re lucky, a little baby comes along and they start a family. One day, when you find a woman and fall in love, this will happen to you. Don’t rush it though, sex can wait, that way you can become a “doctor”. Glad we could have this talk, son.

KeymasterHe went to back to back Super Bowls. Won 1. Should have beaten Brady. And had a long run w Seattle. Very good career.
At USC he turned them around and blanked UCLA 27-0 with little talent and a bad team.
PAC was weak but how did he do in bowls? Versus non conference? In November?
He got lazy at times and I think relied on coaches that were too young. Think he got bored at the end. He has ADHD as we all know.
But no he earned everything he got in his career. In the NFL you never stay on top forever, says Andy Reid. And Pete. And the Raiders are just a disaster. Have been for 20 years.
