ParticipantObviously biased but I say
Clean & def too close to call.
Donte slid late and paid the price on a football field with full pads and a helmet on
he actually clearly hit his shoulder into his upper torso
here it is in slow mo

ParticipantWhat if Sam got hit like that? There’s your answer. I know you won’t admit it, but that hit was dirty and outside of a few Trojan Ballwashers the rest of the world knows it was dirty too. Your team, coach and fan response to the hit makes you look so bad. Terrible program, just terrible.

Participantucla is still celebrating and replaying the video of the hit you put on our QB resulting in an inury that ended his career. Bruins are such hypocrites!

ParticipantNo penalty, no talk of it even being close to a penalty, QB upright and about to throw a pass, LT blocking air, allowing Bruins best player to walk in so freely it actually surprise him. Not even close to the same situation.

ParticipantHere’s the thing, if your player would have been at all concerned with Moore, people’s attitude would be like, “well it was dirty, but not intentional, just a dumb move, or something like that”. The fact that the dude “Jive Turkey Motherfuckered” across the field and had a celebration on the sidelines with his boys showed that the ends justified the means and this was absolutely the planned outcome of the hit. If it wasn’t, they would have felt terrible, or at least hid their glee.

ParticipantThat is a different conversation. You should process that. And fwiw I agree with a lot of it. Not all of it but some of it
Oregon players attacked him after. No problem with it fwiw
Oregon sidelines yelled at him. A bit of a problem with it but understand
Stephen’s stood his ground. I respect it
Then Usc Kid acted a bit of the fool on the field. showed no concern for Moore. Usc players told him to stop and pointed him to the sidelines
on sidelines he didn’t do shit except acknowledge players coming up to him celebrating the hit. He was not acting the fool.
it’s football. He’s a LBer. He hits people. Especially big QBs running right at him.
Idk. This media shitstorm yelling put this kid in jail is crazy to me.
should he have taken a knee. Probably yes. would have looked better.
I really don’t think he hurt him that bad. It was a big hit yes but it Did not look like it would greatly injure someone. It’s all heat of moment. Gotta have some grace for combat and deescalation.
but yes sportsmanship and not injuring someone is always paramount. Donte shouldn’t have ran towards a big ass LBer and slid late. And that’s dangerous for the QB. It’s true. And Derek Carr and Luke McCown have both said this in last 12 hours

ParticipantDidn’t hurt him”that bad”? He basically had a seizure (I know I know “fencing”) and had to go to the hospital. It’s not like he could just pee on it and walk it off. Again, the hit was dirty. You just have USC football so ingrained into your identity you will do anything to defend it, because any bad mojo for the program you carry on your shoulders. Healthy.

ParticipantHe slid late. It was bang bang. Not dirty.
After every big hit it’s the defenders job to stand over player and make sure they are ok?
You fucking tackle the guy and move on. And 99.9% of the time they get back up. Quickly. When they don’t you adjust. And hopefully pay respects to their health.its called playing football. Not being an emotional message board expert

ParticipantAnd YOU have “USC football so ingrained into your identity” that you are unable to have any objectivity whatsoever. As long as there is USC football, you can never be happy. Surface structure: you are unhappy with USC. Deep structure: You are really unhappy with ucla football. Suck it up!

ParticipantI actually would say that it was dirty definitely looked that way in real time. But I think it looked dirtier than it was, if that makes sense, and I don’t think it was intentional. But his actions after the hit didn’t help and were inexcusable. Really really low class and stupid. He should have been dragged off the field asap and sent to the locker room immediately. That is what I would say – terrible optics and juvenile behavior. Glad he’s suspended a game to be honest.
Glad Moore has no long term effects and hope he can get back to the field soon.

ParticipantWhen sliding rule gets changed to give defenders more time to react vs calling them soulless thugs will you come back and say I was right?
this rule or technique for a qb will go away. Soon. Because it’s dangerous for the qb. Not because it’s a dirty hit or play. There is a distinction here and it’s easy to see

Participantit wasn’t the shoulder into to face mask that caused the concussion, it was the EARTH under the grass that never gives a millimeter. This is why football helmets don’t work. Helmet stops, brain keeps going. tears bridging veins, shorts circuits. Concussion.
It certainly can be argued that Moore slid late and didn’t go low to the ground like he’s supposed to. It can also be argued that SC’s linebacker aimed for the torso as you mentioned. But he did catch the face mask with his lead shoulder. it’s right there on film.
By the current rules of the game it is defined as targeting since the face mask is considered part of the head. and shoulder vs head is a no no.
Dirty? He sure acted like it was afterwards. Not a good luck for the program . Soft and now Dirty are not good reps . Need to change the face of the program. Just one more excuse. sc

ParticipantCorrect on where his shoulder hit. And that happened in 0.2 seconds as both guys were moving and sliding.
I am fine with flag. But calling it egregiously dirty is erroneous. It was a bang bang football play.
And defenders celebrate big hits. Just like O players celebrate TDs. It’s part of the game. Once we all saw Moore wasn’t getting up the celebrations mostly stopped except players saying nice hard hit individually. -

The old canes had that dirty image but they also backed it up on the floor. This is like someone coming out and acting tough and failing to deliver. SC is all bark and no bite.

LA DuckParticipantI think Stephens was totally classless, and most of the US agrees, although maybe not most of USC agrees.
Maybe the hit itself was questionable to some, but to most it was definitely targeting, including the refs. That’s not the classless part in my opinion, not at all.
Because the hit on Moore came after Oregon got a first down, there would have been NO reason to celebrate the hit – which didn’t even lead to limiting the # of yards Oregon’s QB otherwise had gotten since the hit came after he began his slide. The ONLY reason to celebrate for your Trojan team was exactly because it knocked Dante out cold and likely out of the game, and even needing to be taken to a hospital.
Classless. Plain and simple.
Any way you slice it, it’s a really bad look for USC, although I don’t think it’s necessarily reflective on CLR, only some of your Trojan players. But it’s enough to make it easy to label the whole Trojan team classless, a baseless generalization for sure.
But at the end of the day I don’t think you want that for your program, especially one trying to make a name for itself this season. Now the US is talking about classless Trojans. Not good for recruiting either.
The fact that Java and San Clemente are classless in their comments about it is fine with me and just par for this board. It is the Wildwest. I would expect nothing less here, especially from them. Honestly.

ParticipantRight back at you Duck. Wished you posted more here.
i don’t disagree here very much.
celebrating a big hit is football. Celebrating a big hit after he gets a 1st down. lol that is sort of lame and you have a point. Guys like hitting the QB. Part of the game .
but duck fans have to admit Moore is at least 75% of the issue here. He doenst want to get hit go down earlier or stay in the pocket. Thats irrefutable. You want to pretend you’re a RB without those skills you get lit up. Defenders are happy to oblige.
As far as “public” opinion I truly don’t care. I mean joe public thinks usc was paying Reggie Bush to play and was buying him used impalas. Public opinion said Nike was smart to embrace Kap kneeling. 😉 I care about the truth. I care about players safety and QBs are much safer diving early and face first. It didn’t take last night to prove it. The truth was always out there.
ill never celebrate an injury or celebrating one. I know how it looked. I don’t think it was accurate. Kid thought Moore would pop up and take the next snap like 99% of the time happens

ParticipantL A duck
the story is not about Moore or Stephens
if it wasn’t USC involved no one would know about it but because it’s USC it’s going to be a nationwide story.
like the San Jose State attendance story which went nationwide.
ABOUT ATTENDANCE for gods sake
remember rule #1 the only bad publicity is no publicity.
and no it won’t hurt recruiting.

KeymasterAll the panty waists are upset because he celebrated the hit. 11 guys chase a rabbit all game. Guess what happens when the dogs catch him? They celebrate. Every team. Every level. Get rid of the slide rule. Or teach your qb. As Riley had. To get rid of the ball.
good thing Oregon bought a spare. Good use of $2million
as to lanning? He’s angry because his team got some wood delivered last night. There’s still a gap but he knows the window is closing.

LA DuckParticipantYo, Java – it would have been poetic justice had Oregon’s LBer knocked out Maiava instead, and in comes Jonas Williams to save the day against the team he originally verbaled to. That would have been fun, and I’m “sure” you’d be saying the same thing about Oregon that you are saying about USC – it’s all just part of the game – and not that Oregon has “dirty” players….
As for Lanning, he’s a bit miffed that USC has stolen a number of players from Oregon, no doubt, thus the “poke” at the end of his press conference.
I just thought it was a funny quip, and you know going 0-3 vs my quacks will be used against SC for the coming few years in recruiting until we play again in 2028 at Autzen…. 🙂
