The Return of the White Athlete

Things were looking pretty bleak for a long time. Just steady decline from 50/60/70/80/90/00 etc.</p>
Hung on to the OL and the QB mostly. But then the black QB started to really emerge. And not talking Randall Cunningham and Warren Moon. More like Lamar Mahomes Geno Hurts Murray.

But as that has risen the white boys have started to emerge in spots they haven’t been seen since the Passenger Pigeon.
A white DB like D Cooper. Then Denver got one. I think both Iowa products. White safeties were an isolated, genetically intact subspecies that kept going strong through the years. Eric Weddle and Harrison Smith and Jon Lynch are recent contemporaries.

But the white WR has made a miraculous recovery. Fred Biletnikoff and Steve Largent would be proud.  Adam Theilen breaking out and blowing up. The pats entire O history with Brady and Belicheck lol. Hunter Refrow and Ladd McConkey and other slot guys.

LBers and DL have also had a resurgence.

and the most dominant group of all. The TE group.
Jason Winten saved the species. Then Gronk revolutionized the role and the game. Now so many stud TEs. Zach Ertz and Trey McBride and Travis Kelce. Too many to name.

Cant do this without mentioning Christian McCaffery. That dude is so good that he blew up every single 30 year old  stereotype lol. Just so good.

now the WHY??????

I can think of a few reasons.

1) the black athlete has not elevated as much. There are no more MJs or Kobe’s or Kareem’s. Those dudes were untouchable and so much better than their contemporaries. I think that gap has shrunk. Maybe it’s great black athletes Marrying white and Latin women? The mixing of dna does have results. Undeniably. Maybe it’s a lack of a strong father figure and “mambas” aren’t being made? Maybe it’s just one group working harder? Better training? training harder? Maybe?

so I think the white athlete has risen faster then the black athlete in terms of the “gap” that we used to see. Controversial I know. We are even seeing it in college hoops -and the nba (Flagg Kneuppel). Ron Harper and Scotty Pippens have sons in the league but not near the players they were. They also married short women. Fwiw also non black.

I mean there has never been a white MJ or a white Randy Moss or a white Jim Brown. The highs were so high. They seemed untouchable. But have they been “replaced”? Or “bettered”? I honestly don’t think so. Thats the point.

This also leaves out the rise of the Polynesian kids as well. 4 in 1st round just on TH. Less than 1% of the national population and just killing it. I mean they consistently produce nfl bodies at birth lol. I’ll leave out the why on this one. 😂
