USC C.LR is a slow play on offering Dane Weber, 6-1, 210 lbs because he is still looking around.  Found out C.LR is looking at local QB, Caden Jones, 6-3, 185 lbs, Crean Lutheran HS, Irive, Ca.  Looked him up, looks like a very good QB.  Jones has ideal size, good arm strength, very good athlete, fast-4.46 40 yds, 10.78 100 yds, 10.1 broad jump, 36″ vertical, plays BB = 8.0 ppg.

Jones stats: P, 11 games = 3,050 yds, 244/326 = 75%, 30 TD, 133 QBR, R = 31, 269 yds.  Jones scrambles well when pocket breaks down, runs for positive yards, good touch on long passes, pretty good zip on medium P.  Looks like a compeditor and good leader.

PS.  Hell either QB, Weber or Jones would fit in C.LR O, but I like Dane Weber a little more.

FWIW, Dane was at the UCLA practice Tuesday along with 59 other recruits (yea that number blew me away). I know this makes three visits for the talented QB so we see how it ultimately ends up, but SC is also in play. Watching Bob Chesney’s practices and approach two people come to mind, Joe Frazier and Dick Vermeil. This guy is relentless in a good way.

Damani Warren the talented 6-4 receiver is apparently coming down to a SC UCLA battle for his commitment. Seems to me it would be tough beating out Riley for a top receiver.

Bruddah RWC, hope you and family had a nice Easter Sunday?  C.LR slow play for Dane Weber is very disappointing.  After losing Longstreet to the TP last year, he should have focus R a QB hard.  It shows how lazy he is which pisses me off.  Your HC is doing all the right things R Weber hard and showing him da love.  If you guys land DW dat will be a Big Kaboom.  I’ve gone over his HL tapes many times and feel/think Dane Weber is a high 4* QB (top 12-15 QB in nation).  I do not see any weakness in his game and physical size.

I think Wr D. Warren is out at USC?   He was #8 on USC’s Wr & TE big board, we got 3 already.  We need 1 TE/Big Wr and there are 2 players on USC’s big board, Charles Davis and Rahz Zo Edwards ahead of Warren…  Cheers

Bruddah Balls, what are you hearing in USC recruiting for a 2027 class QB?  From my research, C.LR has only been looking at Dane Weber (looks like we’re out) and Caden Jones, 3* QB, Crean Lutheran HS, Irvine.  Hell, maybe C.LR is gonna pass up with these 2 and wait for the TP in Dec, 2026.  Dat’s a risky strategy in my book.

Without ? he is gonna need a top QB for the 2027 class.  There’s only Jona’s Williams.  I really do not like C.LR recruiting style.  After Longstreet left last year, he should have been on attack mode (top priority) for top 2027 QB’s.  All the top QB’s have committed.  Maybe he is trying to flip one of them?   Let us know what you’re hearing…  Cheers

I agree. After longstreet I actually thought he would go circle back to Lyons. and flip that guy back

I agreed that they need at least one top recruit possibly a portal entry

one thing that has frustrated college programs all over is paying a top high school kid 1 million or $2 million to show up Richard shirt on your campus and then transfer.

so I think USC is in a tough position because they either need to find someone who can compete right away for the job against Williams. Who’s been on campus for a year. or they need to go find a transfer portal quarterback, who is not going to scare Williams away  once again, leaving them with one quarterback on the roster

I think the question is do you go pursue a top level high school quarterback and find a journeyman transfer portal guy so that you have three quarterbacks next year

or do you go after a top level transfer quarterback and bring in a three star high school kid who is not going to spook anyone. you need to get to three quarterbacks next fall

no matter what you do you risk having one quarterback by the time 2028 comes around  possibly even 2027  it it’s funny because teams used to carry five quarterbacks. Now it’s becoming difficult to carry three

but think about this if they get a top level transfer portal quarterback after this season, Williams is likely to leave but they will likely also get a high school kid that leaves you with two  and the portal kid is probably a one and done

if you get a top level high school kid and a middle of the road portal backup type  then you’ve paid a lot of money for a high school kid and you probably lose either him or Williams after one year and your portal kid is also a one and done

so in both of those scenarios you go into 2028 with either Williams or your high school superstar and no one else and they need to recruit to more high school quarterbacks or another portal and another high school quarterback in the 2028 Class

everything I described above is a lot more traffic in and out than Riley traditionally likes. He likes a lot more stability in his quarterback room than everything. I just wrote above  I think much of this is just the nature of the NIL world we live in now and the transfer portal at this particular area. I don’t think it fits well with the way Riley likes running his quarterback room

Good take Bruddah Java.  Dang, dat was an insightful post.  Bottom line we are gonna need a top QB for the 2027 class (HS or TP) to backup Jona’s. Like you said no top TP QB would want to be a backup.  So, C.LR must get a HS QB for the 2027 class…  Cheers
