Preseason Coaches Poll Is Out

USC debuts at 14. I like it. We have three of the top 5 on our schedule. Check that ND is a scratch. But our schedule is pretty loaded on the back 9. We get the toughest teams at home which gives us a fighting chance. Would have loved to get the Irish at home this year.

With Bugs and 162 at the helm and this schedule, 7-5 maybe 6-6.  If that happens, Jen will finally end this nightmare.

Looks almost right.  I would switch #10 Ole Miss and #13 LSU.  LSU makes my top 10…  Cheers

Bama and USC are da mystery teams; could become a major force.  Both teams are filled with top talent, but their D = Achilles heel.  Their D played soft and mistake prone.  If C. Deboer (Bama) and DC Patterson (USC) are able to put together a top 12 D nation, they are gonna kill people.

I say LSU makes the CFP and the final 4.

Watch out for these teams (bottom half) who could surprise the college FB world:  Michigan, Penn St, UDub, Clemson & UCLA.  These teams will upset some top 10 teams.  I think UCLA will end up in the top 25 in da final rankings…  Cheers

Eight B1G teams in the Top 22.  That’s good for us.

And that means in a world where there are 24 playoff teams, theoretically 8 B1G teams would be in.  Shoot, 24 is way too many, oh well…. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I think Notre Dame should be #1 and all other top 4 shift down a spot so that Oregon is #3.

I’m not really seeing Washington as a top 20 team.  But, hey, if my QB wants to leave and has 2 feet out the door, but is forced to stay under penalty of being sued, I guess I’d figure he’d ball out where he doesn’t want to be too.  🙂

Bruddah LA Duck, I think UDub is a top 25 team and will upset and surprise a lot of teams.  C. Fisch is a top 10 coach.  If he had the talent like Oregon, Ohio St, ND, Texas AM, Texas, LSU, USC, Texas Tech, OU, UGA, Bama he would make the CFP and be in the final 4.

C. Fisch is slowly building decent talent at UDub.  I wish we had as our HC: C. Kiffin, C. Deboer, C. Cignetti, C. Dillingham, C. Fisch, C. Cristobal

I don’t get the Kiffin love, respectfully. Is he a better coach than when he was at USC? Obviously. Low hurdle. Is he elite, top five? I don’t see it. He will have all the resources he could ask for at LSU so we’ll see. Hell, Ed O won the natty there so Kiff will have the chances. But I don’t think he will make it as elite, same breath as the others you mention. My opinion. I think ego gets in the way.
Then again, I thought Riley would be better than he has been so whom am I to predict the coaching talent?

the909, yeah many people do not like C. Kiffin, but I do.  I think he is one of the top coaches in the country.  He is top 3 O minds and he believes in physical D’s.  If he had stayed at USC, I believe he would have brought a NC.  Wish he was coaching at USC instead of C. LR.

Hell you mentioned he has an ego, every coach, all humans have ego’s.  Nah, C. Kiffin has done well post USC.  He has won at Bama, Florida Atlantic, Ole Miss.  He will bring a NC at LSU.  Wish he was coaching at USC vs C. LR…  Cheers

Just curious why you think Fisch is a top 10 coach?  Granted, he brought Arizona a 9-win season and UW a 10-win season.  Is that worthy of a top 10 ranking?  Not saying you’re wrong, but I just don’t see it at this point – specifically sustaining excellence over time.

Fisch currently has a losing record at 32-33 overall.  I suppose that’s not bad, but it’s not good either.

Not you, but some of the Wildwest geniuses on here also thought OSU’s old coach was a very good coach (maybe not Top 10, but still good).  And one 4-15 record later he has been fired from Michigan State, and now out of football (as far as I know).

I think Jonathan Smith would still make an excellent OC, but he’s WAY over his head as head coach, much like my beloved Chip Kelly was for most of his career.  The ol’ Peter Principle, ya know?

I think the same can, and will, be said of Jed Fisch.

Interestingly, Jonathan Smith was 34-35 when he left OSU for Michigan State….similar to Fisch’s win/loss record currently….

Of your list, the only coaches I personally feel are all that great are Cignetti, Kiffin and DeBoer.

My biggest fear (and your salvation) will be if USC sh|ts the bed this season along with Alabama, paving way for CLR and DeBoer to be fired, and USC hires DeBoer to become a dynasty once again.  🙂

One reason why if my quacks don’t win in September at the Coliseum, it just might not be the worst thing for us…lol

Bruddah LA Duck, I explain why I like C. Fisch above post.  He has done well at Zona and now UDub with average talent, plus I like how physical his teams play.  I like how he coaches on da sidelines, you can see calmness but fire in his eyes.  He get his boys and teams play hard nose FB.

Jonathan Smith is one dam good coach.  He did well at Oregon St, but failed at Michigan St.  Sometimes that is how it goes in coaching.  I like how he coaches on game days.  His OSU teams were physical too.

Noticed I did not list, your coach,  C. Smart UGA, C. Swinney-Clemson, C. Day-Ohio St, OU coach, Tennessee coach, Texas AM coach, Nebraska coach as my favorite coaches.  They are fine coaches; but I just do not like them and do not want them at USC.  Hell, I think UCLA scored big time with C. Chesney.  He is going to put UCLA in the top 25 once again, by 2027 or even by the end of 2026 final rankings.

Every fan have their bias and likes.  Dat what makes the world go round…  Cheers

PS.  I did not list C. Sark-Texas as well, I do not like him as a FB coach.

And even funnier, while at UW, LAD thought DeBoer sucked and wasn’t a ‘big time’ coach. Now? He is great and could build ‘another’ dynasty.

I wouldn’t call it “hate” per se, mandb.  I leave that emotion to those who really deserve such sentiments.

I’d call it my honest analysis of the situation plus some good-natured ribbing of my friends the Huskies.

Alabama fans certainly don’t think he’s a good coach….lol!  Not sure why he would ever have wanted to follow the best coach in recent college football history….total set up for failure.  Must have really wanted to scoot from Montlake is all I can figure.
