I recommend you get the hell out if there and keep driving west about 1,552 miles and seeing California. No place like it. California is on top.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>California is a beautiful state ruined by 3rd world scum and evil, liberal shitheads. Texas is mostly gross but the people have freedom and their economy and lives are thriving. </p>

Hi Fraud, the picture you posted is something I’m not familiar with. Is it AI? I see poor people every now and then on freeway off ramps but I just roll up my window and wait for the green light. Police in my area do a good job of keeping them away. They have my empathy but their life choices are not my problem. I hope their families can help them.

        It’s not my world.

I hear a significant number of people that moved from California to Texas are coming back. It’s called the ‘Boomerang Effect”. High property taxes, high insurance costs and high utility bills are mentioned as factors along with crap weather and being around a lot of dumb people.

You made a good choice but those winters man. No can do.

Damn Bruddah, you never fail to impress me. That’s exactly where that picture was taken. The wife and I go three times a year. Some years even more. The Sea Chest restaurant is exceptional,  if you haven’t been. A stop ar Morro Bay rock for fish and chips, clam chowder and a beer is nice too.

I love visiting that part of California. Cambria, Morro Bay, even Pismo and SLO. I like it because of the scenery and the relaxed life style but maybe growing up there isn’t fun. You want parties and lots of babes at that age.

Look at a map you Moron.

it’s like saying you grew up in San Clemente and thus understand San Diego weather and vibes.  Because they’re basically Next door.

Cambria pebble beach. Carmel are on the other side of the mountain from avenal coalinga. Kettleman city.  The first are the beach side.  Wealthy side of the mountain. The other side is the poor side of the San Joaquin valley.

        You’re welcome

For the record Carmel and pebble beach are further north. Cambria was the town in question.

if you see a map you’ll notice parkfield is right there.  Earthquake capital of the US if not the world.  We had and have a ranch there.  It’s where my grandpa was killed.

Paso Robles.  Coalinga avenal kettleman city.  All on the other side of that mountain

Sorry Java, but that’s not how it works.  I had family in Paso Robles, which is about an hour drive from the beach (as you well know since apparently you have thrived on The “Fresno Coast” in your youth).  So, paso was an hour from the sand, and Fresno was an hour and a half east of paso.  That’s one long walk to the beach, my friend.

I didn’t say it was a walk.  But when you’re   Inland it’s close. Grew up in Fresno.  Family is from all those little crappy towns mentioned. Been to all the “nice” towns a ton for weekends field trips etc.  Yes. Very familiar.  Also too familiar with pismo.  Avala. The dunes.   Morro bay. My gosh I hate all of it.  Paso Robles too. Lived there for 3 months as a kid.  I just laugh now when it’s advertised as this great wine country get away.  I just know it as a crappy dump

fresno to the crappy towns was about an hour.  No real freeways either.  And then the crappy towns over the hill I don’t remember.   More small roads and no freeways.  Basically you have the expensive side of the moi rain and the poor side.  You can guess which side I grew up on   Can’t say I’m a fan of either side.  Drove through that region with the wife a few years ago and wasn’t anymore interested now than I was then.

That’s very interesting Java because i absolutely enjoy visiting that area. I was offered a job in Santa Maria back in the 80’s.  I went to visit,  liked the area  but the timing was wrong. I was a single young buck and it was too slo for me ( San Luis Obispo, punny). Back about 10 years ago I thought about buying a vacation home around the Cambria/Morro Bay area but ended up buying in Lake Arrowhead instead. Interesting to hear you are not a fan. I guess it’s different to visit than to grow up there.

all my friends got to vacation in Santa Barbara. We had to go to Pismo Beach Ian’s Avila.  they sucked  it’s hilarious to go there now and find that it’s all very expensive. Snooty latte drinking property  we used to stay in today would probably be called a rent by the hour motel with an indoor pool practically on the beach at Pismo  why do you have an indoor pool right on the beach? Because the ocean and the weather around there is so crappy so much of the year

cambria has cool tidepools.  I probably have pictures in an old photo album from when I was a kid of a field trip over there. The sand dunes  were fun

I just remembered thinking as a kid that the beach was supposed to be sunny and warm and the water was supposed to be enjoyable and  the entire thing was a letdown

so I think Dad’s revenge was then to take us all to y camp at Lake Sequoia. not sure that was much better

Pismo beach is a shithole and is flooded with gangbangers and their hyenas or whatever they call them on the weekends for the free ocean air conditioning.

Bruddah Daystalker, if you will want to share the correct drive times.  I’ve done this road trip Mucho times.  Paso Robles (road 46) takes a direct route to the nearest beach, Cambria Beach (HW 1).  It takes us only 35 minutes and I’m a careful driver.  A fast driver could do it under 30 minutes (46 is fast and good, safe road).

Fresno (41) to Paso Robles (46) takes me about 2 hours.  Again I’m a careful driver.  Once you pass FW 5, the 41 turns into 46.  The 46 goes thru hills & mountains, winding roads, so I drive slower and careful.  Maybe someone could make the drive in about 1:50 or a little faster.

In Bruddah Java defense, now I see what he meant he grew up there (figure of speech).  Fresno people going to the beach would hit Cambria Beach or San Simeon Beach, Cayucos, Moro Bay, Los Osos, and even Pismo Beach & Grover Beach further south.

It’s kinda like us, we live in Santa Clarita Valley, Valencia.  When we go to the beach, we hit Malibu beaches (Pt Dume, Zuma, Little Zuma, Ocean Beach-Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach.  I might say I grew up there too (make believe fantasy), lol…  Cheers

Ok so Fresno is three hours from the sand, that is the same distance as Times Square from the White House.  I get it if you are talking to someone from Yugoslavia or something, you can tell them you live in Santa Clarita which is near Hollywood or Malibu, but the rest of us don’t buy it.

Yeah Bruddah we’ve seen dat restaurant, The Sea Chest, located in Cambria Beach, hotel row.  We usually stay in Cambria Beach one night. We’ve never eaten there, but will try next time in Cambria.  We walk the 1 mile board walk early mornings before breakfast and sunsets before dinner.  When we drive up the coast we always get seafood in Ventura Harbor, Andria’s (A+, great seafood), then a few days later at Moro Bay, Seafood Galley (B+) or Giovanni’s Seafood Market (B).

When we stay one night in Cambria, we always eat at Main St Grill, B+ (affiliated with Firestone BBQ chains).  Was A+, kinda disappointed, Main St Grill trimmed down their menu somewhat, eliminated BBQ Chicken (strange).  We talked to management, but they did not bring it back.  But still very good and cheap menu.  Surprisingly B+ cocktails, beer and wines from the region. The other Firestone Grills still have BBQ Chicken.  The Fresno and Bakersfield Firestone Grills are A+.

When we take the Central Coast road trip, over night stops:  1 night Ventura, 2 nights Santa Barbara, 2 nights S L Obispo, 1 night Cambria and if we continue to Carmel-Monterey (1 night Carmel, 1 night Monterey).  The 17 mile drive Carmel-Pebble Beach.  We do this trip every 3 to 4 years.  We get to visit about 3 different wineries (Santa Barbara, Paso Robles, Monterey) every trip.

The other road trips we like going: Sequoia NP, Yosemite NP, Tamaplsis St Pk, Marin County, National Bridge St Pk, Santa Cruz, Muir Woods National Monument, Redwood Grove, Marin, Portola Redwoods St Pk.  On same road trip visit Sonoma Valley and Napa Valley wineries and then to San Francisco.  Coming from hot Santa Clarita, we look forward to our Central Coast and Northern Coast road trips.  We love seeing and hiking our Calif N P and St Pk, so beautiful and good for the soul being with nature…  Cheers

PS.  To Bruddah Fraud, Brah you missing out on Calif. beauty.  Sad, you focus only the bad side of Calif.  We think Calif is one beautiful state…  Shaka.

Oh, 1976 going on a road trip up to San Francisco we stopped in Cambria and discovered an A+ Swedish, Smorgasbord, all you eat + beverage restaurant.  I believe it was $4.50 to $5.00 something in that price range.  Man the food was so dam good.  We ate there 2 more times, 1979, 1981.  Then, around 1985 the Central Coast was hit with a series of Mucho rain and the great floods were the result.

We take another road trip around 1987, found the Swedish Smorgasbord was gone, flat to the foundation.  Many of buildings in downtown Cambria were still damaged and under re-construction.  We asked a Real Estate office if the Swedish restaurant was gonna come back, the girl said no.  The owners quit and left the area.  Dam, miss dat place…  Cheers

Yeah Bruddah, our vacations are pretty much within USA.  Hawaii, Calif road trips, visiting other NP (Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Bryce, Zion, etc.  Like last year we rented a SUV one way deal, drove all da up to Yellowstone and hit Bryce, Zion and Grand Tetons.  We stopped in Las Vegas 2 nights.  But, flew back to LAX from Jackson Hole.  Our 1st road trip to Yellowstone was 1978 drove both ways and I thought it was a bit much.

I have not been outside USA, I do not have a passport (not even Canada nor Mexico).  One day soon, I would love to see Europe and maybe Australia and New Zealand.  When I played tournament tennis, played in Florida, Texas, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, Washington, Ohio, tournaments.  So dat was kinda a vacation for me.  As a family, we have visited Disney World and Orlando other parks, South Florida, The Keys, Washington DC-Smithsonian, Philadelphia, NY City, New Jersey, Boston, Baltimore, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kansas, New Mexico, Louisiana, Chicago, Washington, Oregon…

The trend now days are  cruise ship vacations, but it’s not for me.  My wife and daughter have been on cruises (Mexico, Caribbean), both  have passports.  They love cruise ship vacations…  Cheers

We have a beautiful country, huge in land mass and so much to see. I am more of an international traveler but one of my goals is to road trip across America. USC football away games have gotten me to visit many states but I need to see more. I do love visiting other countries, especially Europe. I’m a bit of an amateur historian.

Correction on the Swedish Smorgasbord.  Per my wife, it was $2.95 per person in 1976.  In 1981 trip it went up to $4.95.  Her memory is very good and believe her.  Hell I would have paid $10 per person, lol.  She agrees with me dat it was an A+ restaurant.  The food was real home style cooking, not commercial sheet.  Cheers

California Wine Regions.  (A+) #1  Napa Valley.  #1B Sonoma Valley.  But, these 2 regions are just as good, very close in quality, outstanding wineries: (A) #2 Paso Robles.  #2B Santa Barbara County.   These regions are very good (B+) #3  Santa Cruz Mountains.  #4.  Mendocino County.  #5  Monterey.

The 2 things that makes Napa & Sonoma da top regions are their rich, volcanic soil and almost perfect climate.

Note:  The #1 key to wine is the year or vintage review.  Each year produces different quality wines.  We only buy these labels:  Yes = Estate Grown, Estate Reserve or Grown & Produced.  No on Vinted and Bottle, Cellared and Bottle, Made and Bottle.  We only buy wines from A+ wineries and their wines with a 92 to 100 ratings by top reviewers: Robert Parker, Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiasts.

Wife and I love wines.  I think wine is one of nature’s finest gifts and bounty.  Wine + good food is unmatched.  Big Shaka…  Cheers

PS.  We love French wines as well.  French wines = (A+)  We only buy Grand Cru, Grand Vin, or Superior.  The best, Premier Grand Cru (1st growth) is the best but out of our budget.   Oh, Argentina and Chile makes wonderful wines too.   We do not think much about Italian nor Spanish wines.  Australia and South Africa ?
