now the point.

online people are calling PCA a cry baby. Overrated. Choker. Bad example for baseball and young ones watching. Blah blah blah.

when did “nuance” or “understanding” leave this Country.
and why did we let it? Everyone has become holier than thou and deeply stubborn and opinionated.

it was a close call. Is not PCA allowed to argue it? It’s his legacy? Not yours. Not mine. Not the umpire. HIS.

now apply this to Desmond Stephens  HIT. There is dirty and there is bang bang. There is celebrating a big hit and there is celebrating Injury. But the online discourse (by ducks by bruins and by a whole bunch of others) is so opinionated and even hateful. DS didn’t ask for DM to run down middle of the field trying to gain yards. He was asking to get tackled and then decided to slide late. Two decisions BEFORE DS decision.

folks need to be way more nuanced in their evaluations. Everything USC or its opponent is not bad. I mean that’s a 2 years old reasoning. And on flip side not everything USC is Good. That would be just the opposite side of the same coin.

this board has decided DS was a thug and a loser. Many in media too. But it’s not 100-0. At all. Tons of former players and famous QBs said DM needed to slide earlier or stay in the pocket.  Thats not opinion it’s fact. That alone tells you it’s more complex than you want it to be. even if you don’t want to admit it.

Folks need to be part of the solution and not the problem.

Easy to be stubborn. Easy to hate a rival. Easy to be tribal.
Easy to join the mob. Always has been.
Harder to be nuanced, clear headed and independent. Always has been.

I bet the two athletes involved would handle this differently face to face. I really do. Neither did anything terribly wrong but both constributed to the result. Both found themselves on the margins. At game Speed. I don’t want robots. I want competitors and all that comes with that
