Mater Dei HS.  For the 2026 football season, Mater Dei High School has landed transfers, 2027 quarterback Cameron Pooley (from Chaminade), 2028 quarterback Russell Sekona (from Leuzinger), and defensive back Malachi Roby (from Corona Centennial).

While senior QB Furian Inferrera (Minnesota commit), DB Aaryn Washington WR, Gavin Honore transfers out to other schools.

I think Russell Sekona will win the QB1 spot.  Losing DB Aaryn Washington & Wr Gavin Honore hurts.  Looking at Mater Dei’s roster, this will be the least talented team in the last 13 yrs.  But, they will still be a top SS CIF team and top 25 national ranked team.  I think the 2026 D-1 SS CIF champ will be between (St John Bosco, Centennial or Sierra Canyon).

Correction.  My bad, typo error, Malachi Roby is a RB (not DB).

Note.  Both transfer QB’s are average talent, (3* and 2*).  MD lost a lot of elite (5* and 4*) talent last year via graduation and now 3 via transfers.  Shoot, MD did not land any national type talent like previous years.  Lack of top talent will affect (lower) MD record and national rankings.

Here are the key transfers and story lines based on the 2026 transfer tracker:

Top Offensive Transfers

Jaden Jefferson (QB): Cathedral to Corona Centennial. A dynamic quarterback, he is expected to lead the Huskies’ offense as a senior.
Quentin Hale (WR): Cathedral to Corona Centennial. Recorded 62 receptions and 12 touchdowns in 2025.  Dang, Centennial got 2 early Xmas gifts.  Cent was a top team last year, they will again be top 3 in SS CIF, Shaka

Maliq Allen (RB): St. John Bosco to Inglewood. A major contributor from a top-tier Trinity League team.  Too bad for SJB, MA has been with SJB since 9th grade.  Career stats = 1550 yds, 8.0 avg ypc,  He is very fast, 4.4 40 yd, 10.52 100 m.  Something must have pissed him off.

Lequand Jackson (QB): Upland to Baldwin Park. Passed for 1,900 yards and 18 touchdowns prior to the transfer.
Koa Smith-Mayall (QB): JSerra to Santa Margarita.
Gino Wang (QB): JSerra to Servite. Had 17 touchdown passes as a sophomore.
Hayes Cloutier (QB): Texas North Crowley to JSerra.   No wonder Koa Smith Mayall transferred to SMC.

Key Defensive & Line Transfers

Marcus Fakatou (DL): Orange Lutheran to Sierra Canyon. A 5-star 2027 prospect (reclassifying to 2026 senior) who had 17 tackles for loss and 7 sacks in 2025.  Dang, Fakatou will make Sierra Canyon a big favorite to take the D-1 SS CIF title in 2026.  They are loaded with college talent. 

Duvay Williams (DB/WR): Gardena Serra to Inglewood.  Huge loss for Serra-Gardena.
Simote Tupou (DL): Henderson (Nev.) Pinecrest Academy to St. John Bosco. Recorded 19 sacks as a sophomore.  Huge PU for SJB.
Jake Whitehead (DB): Inglewood to St. John Bosco.

Pre season SS CIF, D-1 rankings.

I would put Sierra Canyon #4 and drop Mater Dei #5.  I have a funny feeling Santa Margarita is gonna repeat as CIF and State Champs.  But, all 5 teams are gonna contenders for the title, and be top 25 in the nation as well.  I can’t wait for the HS season start.

Tuff Schedule, Power Index.

These 3 schools every year schedule Xtremely hard games.  It’s brutal but they are rewarded by Maxpreps for their high Power Index schedule.  Like last year Mater Dei won: St Thomas Aquinas, Fl #7 N, Bishop Gorman #4 N,  Kahuku #1 Hi, but had 3 Trinity league losses (all very close to national top 10 teams) and ended up #9 in da nation.  Shaka to Maxpreps for recognizing MD’s hard schedule.  I commend how Maxprep rank teams.

Mater Dei, once again has scheduled 10 hard regular season games: Bishop Gorman, #5 N, #1 Nv, American Fork #1 Utah, Orem #3 Utah, Valor Christian, #1 Colorado,  Centennial-Corona #2 Calif and 5 Trinity league games (the tuffest league in the nation).  No one can say MD ducks teams, they play the best teams in the nation.  Impressive record, MD is undefeated in every interstate games.  But, this will be MD’s weakest team.

St John Bosco: Bishop Gorman, #5 N, #1 Nv, Roman Catholic, Pa, #59, Pittsburg, #2 N CIF, Kahuku #1 Hawaii, St Louis #2 Hawaii and then 5 Trinity league games.  Not as hard as Mater Dei, but no pancakes either, all hard games.  SJB is ranked #1 Calif team.

St Francis, Baltimore, Maryland.  Every year they schedule & play 10 tuff games, all Top 30 teams in nation.  They won the National Crown last year.

Bruddah 909,  See all dat I’ve posted so far for the 2026 season.  Yes SJB is gonna be very good, but taking the #1 spot or the SS CIF D-1 crown is gonna be very tuff.  These 5 schools will duke it out.  All 5 teams are in Maxpreps Top 25, Shaka.  SJB #1 nation.  No one will dominate the SS CIF in 2026.  SJB will have a team full of seniors & juniors (experience) and top talent on O & especially on D.  Junior QB Malu one of the SS CIF top QB’s should have an Xlent season.  He will have A+ OL, B+ Wr’s & TE, A Rb’s.  But, I think SMC may just repeat as champs, they are loaded too.  Dang, Sierra Canyon has a talented team as well.  Their D, with transfer 5* DL Fakatau is gonna be scary.  Shoot, Centennial with some top transfers could win it all.  Pull up the chair, get the beers chilled & pupu’s ready for Friday Night FB, Shaka.

Thanks, yes the Trinity league is the powerhouse for sure. Fifth best team may very well be top 10-15 in country lol. Bosco’s QB is young, it will be interesting to see how he develops. Now without the stud RB that might be hard to replace and get the running game going again. He’s got a lit of pressure on him for sure.

I cut the cable TV cord couple years back but man these subscriptions were too much. I cut those out too and only have $16 a month for ad free youtube. Somehow, I’m still surviving and don’t really miss it. If I want to watch an SC game, there are a couple of decent non malware sites. Like last year, 2025 none of the top D-1 teams were undefeated.  No team dominated; like previous Mater Dei and SJB teams.  Again, I do not see any of these teams go undefeated.  SS CIF D-1 is tuff and very hard winning every game; plus our teams play top interstate HS teams as well…  Cheers

I will write/review more in detail later, game stats are hard to find, must do mucho searching.  Driving into LA to do things and than go over our daughters place.

1.  #1 N SJB (L) vs #2 N Bishop Gorman at BG, Las Vegas. 28-38.  SJB has problems on O and D.  BG at one time lead 28-0, but SJB scored 28 pts to tie da game with 7 minutes left in 4th Qt.

2.  #9 N, #4 St-Ca, Mater Dei (W) vs #6 St-Ut, American Fork, Utah, at MD home game. 31-11  MD beat one of Utah’s top teams.  MD looked good.

3.  #62 N, #9 St-Ca, OLu (L) vs #34 N, #6 St-Fl, Central Miami, Fl at CM home, Miami, 22-23, heart break loss to a top Florida team.

4.  #7 St-Ca, Mission Viejo vs #24 St, Ca, Chaparral, Temecula (QB Dane Weber).  55-17.  MV spanked Chaparral.

5.  #16 N, #5 St-Ca, Sierra Canyon (W) vs #28 St-Ca, J. Serra Catholic, San Juan Capistrano, 42-21. Big game and win by SC.

6.  #6 N, #2 St-Ca, Santa Margarita Catholic (W) vs 16 St-Fl, Jones, Orlando, Fl, home team. 27-0.  SMC blank a very good Florida team at their home stadium.

Here’s a little more recap on these 6 FB games.  Game and individual stats were scarce and hard to find.  Many times HS stats do not get recorded for 5 to 6 days after the game ended.  It takes an AC from each school to post the stats at Maxpreps, honor system.  Yeah, posting stats are a big job.

1.  #1 N, St John Bosco (L) vs #2 N, Bishop Gorman at BG, Las Vegas. 28-38.  SJB has problems on O and D.  BG lead 21-0 after 1st half.  But, SJB scored 28 unanswered pts = 21-28.  Then BG scores a TD making it 28-28.  With 7 mins left, BG scores on a pass play which SJB botched the coverage and later on kicked a FG winning the game 38-28.  BG is 3-0 vs SJB, SJB can’t beat them.

Problem, SJB only had 35 T yds, 0 pts in the 1st half and allowing BG 21 pts.  They stunk up the place; they looked flat.  BG noticed it and stepped on the gas pedal.  2nd half, SJB got their sheet together, but it was little too late.  SJB played a horrible 1st half.  And, I do not think BG is dat special.  RB Maliq Allen did not transferred out as reported, good for SJB. QB Malu had a below avg game,  LB Poyer had an average game.  OL, Mueller was a force, hope we get da kid.  SJB should drop to #10?

2.  #9 N, #4 St-Ca, Mater Dei (W) vs #6 St-Ut, American Fork, Utah, at MD home game. 31-11  MD beat one of Utah’s top teams.  MD looked good and really dominated AF.  Scores are deceiving, the true score should have been 41-3.  MD in the RZ, on the 1 yd line RB fumbled (dat’s 7 pts).  AF on the 30 yd line, with 3rd and 15 yds, pass incomplete but MD was flagged for pass interference = 1st down.  AF scores TD in 3 plays (MD gifted 7 pts to AF).  MD had an easy FG, but another 15 yd penalty moved them into a long FG, which their K missed (dat another 3 pts).

MD rotated 2 QB’s, Poole and Sekona, dat kinda worked out OK.  But, both QB’s have only average passing skills (6.5 or B ratings).  But, MD Run game did well, over 200+ yds.  RB’s Asir Nembhard and Mark Allen were sensational, great one/two punch.  MD’s OL are huge, avg 6-5 and 324 lbs; they pushed around AF all night.  MD is a force once again; they were physical, mean, gang tackled, played fast and Xlent team speed.  AF has a top O, but MD neutralized them.  Dam, USC should look at MD’s D tape and learn how to play D.  Look out for MD dis season.  MD will play BG and after seeing both teams, I think MD wins da game.  MD is 5-0 vs BG, BG can’t beat MD.  Wr Gavin Honore was reported dis summer transferring to Bishop Gorman, well he played last night for MD (so the trans did not take place).

PS. Once again penalties and TO are hurting MD’s play.  The must clean dis up, or it’s gonna bite them in the O’kole in a tight, close game.  MD has always been an aggressive, very physical FB team; I’m sure the Ref’s watch them closely and will throw the yellow flag on them.

3.  #62 N, #9 St-Ca, OLu (L) vs #34 N, #6 St-Fl, Central Miami, Fl at CM home, Miami, 22-23, heart break loss to a top Florida team.

4.  #7 St-Ca, Mission Viejo (W) vs #24 St, Ca, Chaparral, Temecula (QB Dane Weber).  55-17.  MV spanked Chaparral.  But, 4* QB, Dane Weber did not play, surgery on injured throwing hand (thumb), in a cast.  Not good for DW, he will be out most the 2026 season, if not the whole season.

5.  #16 N, #5 St-Ca, Sierra Canyon, Chatsworth, SF Valley (W) vs #28 St-Ca, J. Serra Catholic, San Juan Capistrano, 42-21. Big game and win by SC.  Look out for Sierra Canyon.

6.  #6 N, #2 St-Ca, Santa Margarita Catholic (W) vs #16 St-Fl, Jones HS, Orlando, Fl, home team. 27-0.  SMC, road game blank a very good Florida team at their stadium.  SMC is gonna be a force once again, may take the SS CIF, D-1 crown, repeat champs.  Carson’s son, Fletch Palmer is QB1, played well, 21/31, 242 yds, 2 TD’s.  It was reported dis summer dat QB Koa Smith Mayall, J. Serra Catholic transferred to SMC, dat did not happen.  KS Mayall instead is at Oceanside HS, (San Diego CIF).

Thank you sir. I kinda suspected Bosco was going to struggle, but not like that. W will see if they can recover, but that was a pretty roughgame, and the QB sounded like he was average at best. Very underwhelming.

Bruddah 909, got to question C. Negro and his staff.  Over the years, I’ve seen SJB play flat and not to their talent level.  So for me the blame is on the coaching staff.  This 2026 SJB team is filled with Sr’s and Jr’s (very experience team), top talent, FB tested players.  Seeing them play a bad 1st half is very puzzling.  They needed strong leaders/players, one on O and another on D to get them out of their funk.  FB is an intense, high Adrenalin, mentally pumped up sport; so when a team is flat, the coaching staff failed in the game day preparations.

Shoot, top Jr, QB K. Malu did not play well.  The OL are big guys and could not get their Run game going.  Their talented D made so many mistakes, blown coverage, missed tackles, they got pushed around pretty bad by Bishop Gorman.  And, I did not see anything special about BG.  And, I’ve seen some pretty darn, good, powerful BG teams over the years.

C.Negro and staff will have to repair the team’s confidence; a hard, traumatic loss like this one could kill their season.  They must put this game behind them, move on and practice hard.  Most of all believe they are a top FB team…  Cheers

1.  SJB vs Bishop Gorman.  SJB:  Pass, QB Malau 17/37, 46%, 222 yds, 2 TD, 2 IT, not good.  Rush, 48 yds, terrible.  SJB OL are big, but could not open holes.  C.Negro has a big problem with his OL.  BG: Pass, QB Amina 15/22, 68%, 227 yds, 4 TD.  Rush, 115 yds

2.  Mater Dei vs American Fork.  MD:  Pass, 185 yds, 2 TD.  Rush, 215 yds 2 TD.  My guesstimate was pretty close, 195 yds & 240 yds.  AF:  Pass, 136 yds, Rush 39 yds.  I guessed it was 65 yds, but now we can see clearly how MD front 6 demolished AF RB’s, most of the R yards came from their QB scrambling for their lives.  MD has another Monster D, mean machine.

3.  Mission Viejo vs Chaparral.  MV:  Pass 225 yds, Rush 248 yds = 473 T yds.  Very good O.  Chaparral (no Dane Weber)  Pass, 227 yds (pretty good numbers by the backup QB.  Rush 92 yds.

4.  Sierra Canyon vs J. Serra Catholic.  SC:  Pass 164 yds, R 115 yds, pretty good O night.  J. Serra:  Pass 189, Rush 54.  Looks like SC stuffed their run game.

5.  Santa Margarita vs Jones.  SMC:  Pass 21/31, 242 yds, 2 TD.  Carson’s kid played well.  No stats on Jones

6.  Centennial-Corona (W) vs Servite, 41-21.  Centennial:  Pass, QB Jefferson 19/24, 79%, 296 yds, 2 TD, ran for 92 yds and 2 TD.  QB Jefferson had a great day at the office.  One man show for Cent.  Rush: 279 yds, top RB M.Davis only 58 yds.  Cent total O = 593 yds, we should not be surprised, Cent every year has an O machine.  Got to give their OL much credit.  They have lean, zero fat OL, range 265 to 290, they are superb blockers.  Wr Quinten Hale, 8 rec, 155 yds, 19 yds pc, 2 TD (Xlent game by our incoming Wr), star RB, M. Davis only 58 yds.

Nice write up Butkus.  With all the talent md lost I’m surprised to see them come together like this. Good for coach Lara.  I’m not his biggest fan but here’s hoping this team surprises.   Bosco lost a close road to a top team.  Plenty of time to re establish their cred in their very tough league.

Mater Dei (W) vs American Fork, Utah, since I could not find game stats.  I’m gonna guesstimate the game stats going from memory.  As you can see from my est stats how MD dominated the game.  MD stuff AF RB’s, most of their rushing yds came from their QB scrambling after the pocket broke down… Cheers

Mater Dei.  Passing 195 yds, 2 Td’s and Rushing 240 yds, 2 Td’s = 435 T yds

American Fork.  Passing 125 yds, 1 Td and Rushing 65 yds = 190 T yds

Oh forgot to mention DB, Danny Lang; he was a force in da AF game.  MD moved him around, nickel and FS.  Danny had 1 IT, broke up several passes, played a physical game, tackled well, blitz 2 times rattling, almost sacking the QB.  He was all over the field. A+ game.  We got a good one boys.

On MD 2 QB’s (Pooley and Sekona) although both completed a % of passes, their long passes floated, wobbled; their Wr’s made them look good hauling in the long passes with the DB’s all over them.  They did a lot of short, out type passes.  Yeah, they have average arm strength on long balls.  I’m use to seeing MD with a top, gun slinger type QB, at least they did not TO the ball, IT, fumbled and moved well in the pocket (which are important things).

Last year, MD weakness was at LB, hell one year later with the same LB’s (Sr, E. Sua, Sr, Mike Davis, Soph’s: N. Ware, S. Schuster) played well and stuffed AF RB’s, blitz, very physical, tackled well.  Shoot, MD LB’s are no longer a weak position.

DL, man these guys (M. Toilolo 6-3, 270, M. Uiagalei 6-3, 250, Maui Williams, 6-3, 235, K. Hare 6-3, 245) man handled AF big OL and run game.  MD’s DL has good size, but are strong, quick, mean & ruthless boys. They had an A+ game.  The front 6 held AF to around 65 yds rushing with most of the yards gained by da QB scrabbling out of the pocket.

Bruddah Java, Fletch Palmer is a junior, 11th grade, 6-2, 180 lbs.  Seen some pics of him, he looks bigger, est 195 lbs.  Need to see SMC play dis year.  I’m wondering like you about his QB skills.

Bishop Gorman, DT QB dat transferred in and out after the the win vs SJB is Chance Thomas, 6-1, 190, ranked 29th QB.  He played for Western HS, 3* and 2025 passed for 3,300 yds, 34 TD’s, rushed for 745 yds, 8 TD’s, ranked 29th by Rivals.  CT made a commitment to U. Kansas.  Looks like a good player.  Heck, he should have transferred to Mater Dei…  Cheers

What bad luck for Dane Weber’s hand/thumb injury on his throwing hand.  Found out dat the type of surgery for his injury will take 8 weeks minimal to heal and rehab before he can even grip da the ball.  He is looking at 3 months to 6 months for full recovery.  Looks like his HS FB career is over.  What bad luck for da young Bruddah.  Wish Dane all the best for a speedy, full recovery.  Good luck to him at Cal.

PS.  I wonder if he could have made it back for the latter part of FB season if the injury were on his non throwing hand?  He needs both hands to take the snap, OK maybe not…

8-27-26, Thursday night HS FB.  #14 N, #5 Ca, Sierra Canyon, Chatsworth, SF Valley (W) vs #20 N, #3 Fl Chaminade-Madonna, Hollywood, Fl, home team., 24-7 

This was a match up of interstate, national powers.  Chaminade HS, Hollywood, Fl, near Fort Lauderadale and close by Miami.  This area is a Florida hot bed for FB talent.  Chaminade has one of the nation’s top O and D and have won several Florida State FB championships.

Saw the game on NFHS.  Dang, Sierra Canyon dominated Chaminade at their home stadium.  Again scores are deceiving.  SC fumbled/TO the ball driving in the RZ, 4 times in 1st half giving up 21 sure pts.  The true score should have been 45-7.

SC D killed, crushed CM O at their home stadium.  Florida All State RB, Bradford rushed for only 27 yds on 15 carries.  Their poor QB was harassed all night, threw 3 IT’s.  And, CM OL were big boys..  SC D stars were:  DL M. Fakatou (Ohio St), K. Currie (Texas), Soph Stephen Harrison, LB’s J. Davis, E. Harrington, DB’s M. Baker (UCLA) and Duvay Williams, (Cal), 2025 Serra Gardena, reported to Inglewood, ended up at SC for 2026.

Afterwards CM coach said SC D was the best he has played; Big, Strong, Quick and great team speed.  Said the Front 6 were Monsters.  Since there were no official stats posted, again I will guesstimate for now to show how SC dominated Chaminade.  Dog gone it, California HS play mean FB and have top talent!

Sierra Canyon.  Pass 190 yds, Rush 265 yds = 455 T yds.  RB Stokes (Cal) 194 yds + 35 yds Rec, 1 TD but 3 fumbles (not good). RB2 ran well, est 65 yds.  SC big OL opened big holes and pushed around CM DL all night.  SC OL are Big, avg 6-5, 310 lbs.  Look out for Soph DL, Stephen Harrison, 6-5, 270 man dis kid = animal and should be a top R by the college power 4 programs.

Chaminade-Madonna.  Pass 100 yds, Rush 50 yds = 150 T yds.  And dang, they have a high scoring O.  Last week CM played a big rival game = 375 yds Pass and 250 yds Rush = 625 T yds winning 49-20.  Shoot, CM have Big Boys.  After the game, saw some of the players crying and noticed coaches  and fans in shock, shaking their heads.  Even, the 2 sports broadcasters were stunned how SC crushed CM at home.  Gave SC mucho praised and said they should be a top 10 team in nation…  Cheers

Here are some of SS CIF and top national HS game results.  Again, game & player stats were hard to find and come by.  Later on the week most game stats will show up and I will post them.

1.  8-27-26, Thursday, #14 N, #5 Ca Sierra Canyon (W) vs #21 N, #3 Fl, Chaminade-Madonna, Hollywood, Fl, home team, 24-7

8-28-26.

2.  #5, #1 Ca, St John Bosco (W) #4 Pa, Roman Catholic, 45-25.  Again, scores are deceiving.  SJB lead big 38-7, 1st half.  C. Negro pulled his 1st string, let the 2nd string play 2nd half which allowed RC score 18 pts.  Game was not close.  Good rebound for SJB after their close loss to Bishop Gorman last week.

3.  #6 N, #2 Ca, Santa Margarita Catholic (W) vs #8 N, #3 Ca, Centennial-Corona, 21-20.  Big time clash between 2 SS CIF powerhouse.  It was a D battle and war.  Average O between 2 schools.  With 7 ½ minutes in 4th Qt, Cent scores a TD but did not make the extra pt (blocked by SM) making it 21-20 SM.  There after both schools drove on their possession but in the end SM tuff D held off Cent from scoring again.

Again like last year as a Fr, SM, Soph 5-5, 185 lbs RB Adrian Petero was/is the star RB and not Sr Jaion Smith.  Man, dat Petero runs hard, like a tank and has deceptive speed.  He rushed for 23 times = 118 hard yds.  He pounded Cent D.  I love dis kid.  SM front 6 held Cent rushing = est 70 yds?.  SM QB F. Palmer had a below average game, threw 3 IT’s (bad).  Soph DL, Kingston Jimmerson, 6-2, 275 lbs is a force, animal, had 3 sacks, several hurries, help stuff Cent R game. He will be Calif’s CIF top DL in his Sr year.  DL Vandermade was a force too. DB Caron Williams had a pick 6.

4.  Dang, #1 N Bishop Gorman (L) 100 N, #16 Fl., Columbus, Miami, Fl, home team, 28-33.  Was dis an upset, nope.  Last week after seeing BG beat SJB, I did not feel BG was special or the #1 team.  Dis proves my thinking.  Columbus HS is good, but not a top 25 N FB team.  Sure BG had to travel which is always tuff, but no excuse.  BG will drop to maybe #12 N.

8-29-26

#9 N, #4 Ca Mater Dei (W) vs #3 Ut, Orem HS, home team, 32-26.  Hard fought game.  MD lead 26-13 at half time.  Orem ties the game in 4th Qt, 26-26.  With 4 mins left, MD scores a TD but missed the extra pt = 32-26. Had to hold off Orem drive with closing min to win da game.  Not good, MS TO- fumbled 2 times & Orem picks them up and scores 2 TD’s = 14 pts.  Yeah, otherwise dis ends up 32-12 Mater Dei.  MD RB, Asir Nembrard est ran for 130 yds, and 3 TD’s. (sure stat)

LOL, on Friday, one of USC main podcaster said, 3 MD players might make the USC game, if they drive all Friday night.  He thought the game was on Friday night.  Wrong.

#10 N, #1 Tx, Duncanville HS (L) vs #16 N, #2 Tx, Allen HS, 7-26.  Big game between 2 of Texas top FB schools.

#13 N, #1 Az Basha HS (W) vs #23 N, #3 Az, Chandler HS. 37-26.  Big game between 2 of Arizona’s top FB schools, Both schools are located in the town of Chandler.  Heck, I’ve always felt this, Arizona HS play Xlent FB and could beat any team in the nation.  Wished USC R Arizona’s players more.

After 2 games and seeing them play gonna rate the top 7 SS CIF D-1 FB teams.  All these teams are big, with A+ team speed.  The top 5 deserves being ranked in MaxPreps’s Top 25.  If anyone think dat Calif HS plays soft FB, are plain Stupid..  Cheers

1.  Sierra Canyon.  Best over all balance on O & D.  Having 5* DL Fakatou made them a beast.

2.  Santa Margarita Catholic.  Best D, their weakness is at QB.

3.  Centennial-Corona.  Best O hands down with very good D.  Best QB among these 7 teams, Jefferson is a dynamic DT QB.

4.  Mater Dei. Good D, one of the best D.  Don’t be surprise if they take the D-1 SS CIF title.  Heck, any of the top 4 can be the 2026 Champs, in November.

5.  Saint John Bosco.  Very good team, but have to say MaxPrep got dis one wrong.  Dis team is talented & experienced, but not playing to their expectations.

6.  OLu.  Solid team.  Their problem every year is depth. Tuff FB team.

7.  Mission Viejo.  Again, C. Chad Johnson has another Xlent team.  He is a great coach.  For years they dominated D-2, so about 5 years ago was bumped up to D-1.  Good team, but not good enough to be make the top 4 or semi’s in SS CIF playoffs.

Ranking the Offense.

1.  Centennial-Corona.  Hands down the best O, no one come close.  DT QB Jefferson is one of SS CIF top QB’s.  3 Xlent RB’s with very good OL

2.  Sierra Canyon.  Very good O.  They have a balance attack, 50/50 run/pass and very effective.  Freaken Big OL.

3.  Mission Viejo.  Very good balanced O.  Great O mind in C. Chad Johnson.  When he was OC at SJB, he made them top team in nation.

4.  Mater Dei.  Solid O.  60/40 run/pass.  Top RB tandem, A+ 1, 2 punch.  Freaken Big OL.  Weakness is at QB.  If they had a QB like Cent Jefferson, they would be #1.  TO’s and stupid, untimely penalties hurts them.  RB’s are fumbling in the RZ.

5.  SJB.  Very good O.

6.  SMC.  Good O.

7.  OLu.  Good O

Ranking the D.  Oh man dis one is so hard, the top 3 are so freaken good.

1.  Santa Margarita Catholic.  I pick them #1.  Big, fast and mean.  Awesome Front 6

2.  Sierra Canyon.  They were a toss up with SMC, so I gonna say they are 1B.  Very Big, fast and mean.  Awesome Front 6.

3.  Mater Dei.  They are mean, fast and Big. 1C.  Awesome Front 6 as well.

4.  OLu.  Very good D

5.  Centennial.  Very good D

6.  SJB.  Must improve their D.  On paper they have top talent, just not playing up to their talent yet…

Maxpreps new rankings.  Surprises.

Calif, Florida = 5 teams, Ga = 4, Az = 2, Tn = 2, Md = 2, Texas = 1 (shocker. Texas produces 2nd in nation with most top 750 HS FB talent).  Louisiana, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio states than produces top talent = zero (shocker).  NJ and Ohio used to have at least 2 HS in the Top 25.

Bishop Gorman, #8 -7, should be #15.  Columbus HS, Fl school dat beat BG last week = #6 +94 (hah last week #100 big jump).  Obviously Maxprep’s is not buying Texas HS teams?  2021 Mater Dei #1 N crushed #12 N and #1 Tx Duncanville HS, 45-3 at their home stadium.  Shoot, MD should have scored another 14 pts but penalties and TO in RZ hurt them.  Or, it would have been 59-3.  Hell dat was a great MD team; MD were killing people dat year.

Oh, Texas had 2 teams in the top 25 in the 8-25-26 rankings.

8-29-26 game.  #10 N, #1 Tx, Duncanville HS (L) vs #16 N, #2 Tx, Allen HS, 7-26.  Big game between 2 of Texas top FB schools.

In the updated, new rankings, 9-1-26, Allen HS is now #10 +6.  Duncanville was #10, now #35 -25, dang Maxpreps penalize them big time.  Nah, dat’s too low.  Heck Duncanville deserved dropping out of the top 25, but I feel they’re a very good team & should be at #28.  They loss to a high ranked #16 Allen.

Bishop Gorman #8 -7 (L) to #100 ranked team Columbus 28-33.  If dat’s the way Maxpreps downgraded Duncanville, hell Bishop Gorman should have dropped to #40?  Kinda stupid, MP upgraded Columbus +94, to #6 N.  Now dat’s BS.  MP must have some new people doing the rankings dis year?

1.  RB/DB, HF Johnson, Cathedral HS, San Diego.  1 G, (L) vs OLu, Rush 9, 63 yds, 2 TD’s.  Looks like he only ran part time.  OLu has a tuff D, maybe the coach did not want Johnson get hurt early into da season.  Smart move.  Note:  QB Koa Smith Mayall (summer report transfer J.Serra Catholic to Santa Margarita, then to Ocean Side, San Diego, but finally he is now at Cathedral HS)  P = 238 yds, 1 TD.

Mission Viejo, #38 N, #6 Ca (L) vs Folsom HS, #55 N, #7 Ca Home team, 21-35  Big intrastate game, 2 top teams from SS CIF vs NS CIF.

Santa Margarita Catholic, #4 N, #2 Ca (W) vs Highland HS, D-7 CIF, 4 years ago was in D-5 CIF, 55-7.  For 5 years Highland was the Champs in Golden League, Antelope Valley.  But, their HC left the program.  Antelope Valley HS is now the top FB program.

Bishop Gorman, Las Vegas, Nv #8 N (W) vs Lone Peak, Ut #5 Ut, 26-14.  Looks like Lone Peak gave BG a tuff time.

St Thomas Aquinas, Fort Lauderdale, #1 N, #1 Fl (W) vs Columbus HS, Miami #6 N, #3 Fl, 31-24.  Hard fought game between 2 of Florida’s top FB programs.  These 2 schools are located in the South Florida region, a hot bed for top FB players.

Allen HS, Tx #10 N, #1 Tx (W) vs DeSoto HS, #54 N, #5 Tx, 50-6.  Big game between 2 of Dallas, Tx top FB teams.  Dang, Allen crushed DeSoto.  DeSoto is where our Boobie Feaster played.  Years ago DeSoto used to be Texas #1 HS program.

Centennial-Corona #12 N, #3 Ca did not play.

I was a little surprised to see Carson Palmer’s team play a team from antelope Valley  I’m going to guess that the administrators from the schools years back somehow knew each other  impressed with all of the interstate top teams playing each other

Thanxs Bruddah Java for the nice words.  Yeah, it takes me about 90 minutes to write up these HS game summaries on Saturday.  I have my media sources for info, plus I get to watch 2 to 3 games.  It used to be easier doing my write ups, but all the local newspapers block non subscribers reading their articles. I have to wait; normally it takes 2 to 3 days for an AC from each school post stats at Maxpreps.  It’s a big job for AC’s posting team and player stats.  Many times stats are not posted at all.

I love HS sports, it’s a passion of mine seeing youngsters play sports.  It brings me back to my HS days…  Cheers

Bruddah Java, Yep, I think there has to some kind connection between the 2 schools.  With former SMC HC, Harry Welch  (former coach Canyon Country HS) acting as a consultant, I would think SMC  would have scheduled Valencia HS, D-3 CIF (da top FB program in Santa Clarita Valley).  Valencia would have been better competition, but would have gotten killed too…  Cheers

I wrote.  Santa Margarita Catholic, #4 N, #2 Ca (W) vs Highland HS, Palmdale, D-7 CIF, 4 years ago was in D-5 CIF, 55-7.  For 6 consecutive years Highland was the Champs in da Golden League, Antelope Valley.  But, their HC left the program.  Since 2023, (Antelope Valley HS, my bad), (correction) Lancaster HS  D-8 is now the top FB program.

Before Highland rule, for 2 years Antelope Valley was da Champs.  From 1999 to 2013 Palmdale (D-3) ruled with Quartz Hill coming in 2nd. In da 80’s and 90’s Antelope Valley HS and Quartz Hill HS battled for the crown.  These 2 teams were in D-1 and D-2 CIF.  Man, da AV had great players back then.

As you can see how the teams in Antelope Valley have declined within the SS CIF division placement.  Most of the schools have 2,500 to 3,300 student body (Big), but can only field 35 to 40 players on Varsity.  Sad times for public schools FB in da AV…  Cheers

A good number of the Antelope Valley’s best players play for Bishop Alemany, Chaminade or Oaks Christian. Off the top of my head I know of 3 who played for USC…. That’s mostly low income real estate out there now…. 40 kids playing out of a 2.5-3k student body? Yes, sad.

Yep, some of the top AV players do commute down below to the schools you mention (add Valencia HS, Notre Dame too).  They get their FB expenses paid, but must find a ride to and from.  Many of the top kids can not find transportation, thus must play for their local HS.

2ndly, a lot of kids just do not want to play FB anymore.  Good talent wasting away…  Cheers

Top FB Games.  9-10-26 & 9-11-26

9-10-26, Thursday Games.

1.  Sierra Canyon #6 N, #5 Ca  (W)  vs  St Louis HS, Honolulu, #6 Hi, 52-0  The game was called off mid way in 3rd Qt, after a St Louis player was seriously injured (laid up on field for 20 mins).  Both coaches decided to stop da game.

SC dominated the game, with 3 pic 6’s.  Guessing SC stats,  O = P 175 yds, R 175 yds.  And, SC D killed SL O = P 75 yds, R 15 yds.  Shoot SC has the best D in da SS CIF.  But, dis is da worst St Louis team in over 60 yrs, sad times for the King of Hawaii FB.  SL has big boys too, just can’t match SC team speed and talent level.

2.  J. Serra Catholic #12 Ca  (W) vs Oak Hills #21 Ca (D-2), 62-12.  Dang, big difference between D-1 vs D-2.  Oak Hills is one of the top D-2 FB programs, and yet got crushed by a mid tier D-1 Trinity League FB program.  The Trinity League is hands down the Best league in da nation.

3.  Buford, Ga, #5 N, #1 Ga  (W) vs Central, Fl, #21 N, #3 Fl, 18-7.  Big interstate matchup between 2 top teams from Georgia and Florida.  Central beat OLu 23-22 2 weeks ago.  Looks like it was a D battle, close game.

 

9-11-26, Friday Games

4.  Mater Dei, #14 N, #4 Ca  (W) vs  Centennial-Corona, #13 N, #2 Ca. 10-9  This was a defensive war, very physical, hard hitting and tackling.  Lots of punting by both sides.  Cent dynamic QB Jefferson was held in check; MD D rattle him all night, did not allow him to run, tight coverage on their Wr’s.  Wr.Q. Hale had only 3 rec, he was covered tightly by MD’s DB.  DB, Danny Lang was all over the field, he is one heck of a FB player.

1st half it’s 9-3 Cent.  4th Qt MD had 2 TO and score one TD.  With 2:30 mins left Cent missed a 27 yd FG.  Then MD ran out the clock.  Low scoring, but I like seeing a D slug fast.  Shaka to both team’s D.  With 2 losses (SMC and MD 2 national ranked teams) by 1 pt each; Centennial should be ranked in the top 25 still by Maxpreps.

5.  St John Bosco, #9 N, #3 Ca  (W) vs  Kahuku, Hi, #2 Hi, 49-13   It was redemption for SJB as they loss to Kahuku last year.

6.  Mission Viejo, #6 Ca  (W) vs Lincoln HS, San Diego, 56-0.  Nice rebound win after losing to Folsom HS last week.  And, Lincoln is one of San Diego’s top teams.

7.  Orange Lutheran-OLu, #7 Ca (W)  vs  Serra-Gardena, #19 Ca, 35-0

8.  J. Serra Catholic, #13 Ca  (W)  vs Oak Hills, #21 Ca, D-2, 62-12.  Dam, Oak Hills got a whoopin.  Big difference between D-1 vs D-2; D-1 teams are just bigger, faster and have better team talent.

9.  Santa Margarita Catholic, #4 N, #1 Ca did not play dis week.

I will state pretty good guesstimates on game stats.  MD O = P 77 yds, R 120 yds = 197 yds.  BG O = P 65 yds, R 220 yds = 285 yds.  Now follow my reasoning.  MD had a 50 yd TD bomb drop by an open Wr (dat’s 7 pts and 50 yds).  BG scored a TD because MD had 4 big 15 yd penalties dat placed BG into their RZ and 5 yd line, which they capitalized 7 easy pts.  Thus the score should have been 15-18 Bishop Gorman

Add 50 yds for dat dropped pass, MD would have had 247 T yds.  Subtract da 45 free yds due to stupid MD penalties on dat TD score, BG ends up with 242 T yds.

Star of da game.  BG RB, Corey Hinton who played the last 2 seasons (24 & 25) at St John Bosco, ran wild, 19 carries for 210 yds, 2 Td.  Like I said in pre-season, MD weakness = QB and it showed last night.  But, the better team won da game.  Bishop Gorman deserves da W.

2. Sierra Canyon #5 Ca (W) vs OLu #7 Ca, SC home team, 28-10.  It was a war in the trenches: SC top front 4 vs OLu top 5 OL; with SC DL winning the battle.  SC top DL, 5* I. Fakatou, 4* K. Currie, Soph Stephan Harrison (dis kid will be top DL his Sr year) vs OLu OL,Lucas Rhoa 4* and company.  Dang, the game was marred with a lot of penalties: SC = 14 flags, 165 yds, OLu 10 flags, 115 yds just as bad as the MD vs BG game.

Critical play.  OLu on their 1 yd line, about to punch it in for a Td but SC stuffed da QB sneak, ended up QB losing 2 yds.  Dam SC front 4 are Monsters.  Found out 5* OL Austin Attalah has not played a down for OLu in 2026.  A judge has blocked his eligibility.  He transferred from Cajon.HS.  He and attorney has filed an appeal.  He has committed to Texas Tech.  USC went all in for him.  After 4 games, and seeing all the top SS CIF teams play; I predict Sierra Canyon wins the SS CIF and State crowns in November/December.

Good Guesstimate on game stats.  SC O, P 125 yds, R 215 yds = 340 T yds.  OLu O, P 80 yds, R 140 yds = 220 T yds. Star of da game, SC All CIF RB, Jaxsen Stokes 166 yds, 2 Td’s.  Stokes 1st committed to OU, but later changed his mind for Cal.  Stokes and Kenny Legget, Centennial-Corona (former MD RB) are the top 2 Calif. RB’s, 2027 class.

3.  Mission Viejo #6 Ca (W) vs Pittsburg, #23 Ca, NS CIF, 42-35.  An O shootout.  Monday’s new rankings, I would put Pittsburg #10 Ca.  Pitt gave SJB and Mission tuff games.

4.  Santa Margarita Catholic #3 Ca (W) vs Norco HS #11 Ca, SMC home team, 41-7

5.  Centennial-Corona, #4 Ca (W) vs Rancho Cucamonga, #20 Ca, D-2, Cent home team, 41-7.  D-2 CIF schools can not compete with the D-1 CIF schools.

QB Tre Wright.  P 56/99, 56.6%, 1141 yds, 285 ypg, 12 TD, 1 IT.  R 44 = 488 yds, 11.1 ypc, 122 ypg, 7 Td’s.  All Purpose: 1629 yds, 408 ypg, 4.75 Td.  Hot stuff.  He’s an offensive machine for Lone Star HS.

Must improve on accuracy, get to 65% and better.  On pace with 2025,  #1 nation, 5,182 All Purpose yards, 54 Td’s, 13 games. 398 pg, 4.16 Td pg.

Top SS CIF, HS FB Games.  Again, game & player stats were hard to find and come by.  Later on the week most game stats will show up and I will post them.

1.  Mater Dei, #18 N, #4 Ca (L)  vs  Santa Margarita Catholic, Home game, #4N, #3 Ca., 7-14  It was a hard fought, low scoring game.  Both sides moved the ball and produced good O.  When, it came down in the RZ both D’s dug deep = low score.  The penalties were average.  D QB sacks:  SMC = 7 and MD = 2. MD’s QB indecision’s got them sacked.  MD weakness is QB.

The big difference were TO’s and 2 missed FG by MD, dat’s 6 pts.  With 50 seconds left in game (4th Qt), MD had a chance to tie the game.  On their 12 yd line and RZ, QB throws an IT which sealed the W for SMC.

Good guesstimates, est stats.  MD O = P 150 yds, R 120 yds = 270 T yds.  SMC O = P 130 yds, R 190 yds = 320 T yds.  SMC soph RB Adrian Petero 130 yds.  Both teams D front 6 are top 4 in Calif.  Very good game. Hate to see someone lose.  SMC is now 6-0, Mater Dei 4-2.

Note.  Maxprep’s rankings for Calif teams is BS, I do not agree with them.  SMC #4 nation, but only #3 Ca, Lol.  SJB #9 N, but #1 Ca and Sierra Canyon #6 N, but #2 Calif.  Maxprep’s rankings does not make any sense  My rankings Calif. #1 Sierra Canyon, #2 SMC, #3 SJB.  National rankings,  #4 Sierra Canyon, # 6 SMC, #9 SJB.

JuJu Hernandez, Tulare Western HS (2028 class), #1 CIF stats rankings. 6 G = 2,672 yds, 445 ypg, 160/226, 71%, 37 Td, 141 QBR  As a Soph, #1 CIF stats,  P 7,000 yds, 76 TD’s.  Size 5-11, 175 lbs.  Saw a HL tape, has all da throws, strong arm, throws 50 bombs tight spirals and with ease.  He runs for positive yards on scrambling situations.  He is a Pro style QB. Silly he is only a 2 star, should be 3 stars. He should target an air raid school.

Josh Boyd, Vista Del Largo HS, 2028 class, #6 QB N, no CIF stats rankings, MaxPreps only list top 200 stats.  4 G = P 602 yds, R 201 yds = 803 all purpose yards, 201 ypg, 12 Td’s (Oregon big lead)

2029 Class.

Thad Breaux, 6-5, 220 lbs, (2029 class), Hamilton HS,  #4 QB N, #23 CIF stats, 5 G = 1638 yds, 327 ypg, 133/187, 71%, 17 Td, 124 QBR.  UCLA leads

Top CIF, Calif HS, RB stats so far, 2026 season 4-6 games played.  I was surprised to see many of the high ranking, national players way below in Calif stats rankings.  I feel stats are important, it shows how players are playing.  OK in the RPO which most of the the HS are using, run plays = only 25-30% of all O plays, so it’s a misleading stat.

Note:  Maxprep only list the top 200 stat players.

#1 CIF stats RB.  Jr, Brandon Hernandez, 6-0, 205 lbs Panorama HS, SF Valley, 7 G = 1,645 yds, 235 ypg, 12.3 ypc, 26 Td’s. Only a Jr, no schools have offered yet.  He is a power back; plays both ways (LB).  Shoot with stats like this, I would offer him.  I like FB players dat play both ways; must be a tuff kid.  Shoot, he’s on track for an amazing season, 13 G = 3,055 yds

Jaxsen Stokes, Sierra Canyon, #57 N, not in top 200, 5 G = 509 yds, 102 ypg, 7.4 ypc, 5 Td (but he catches a lot of passes too, so he is an all purpose RB). Cal.  Even though JS is not in the top 200 stat rankings, seen enough on dis kid; he’s worthy of a power 5 ride.  Cal got a good one.

DJ Jones, Dela Salle, #72 N, #175 CIF stats.  6 G = 602 yds, 100 ypg, 7.8 ypc, 7 Td’s. (UCLA)

M. McFarland, Damien HS, #81 N, not in top 200, 6 G = 361 yds, 60 ypg, 6.5 ypc, 5 Td. (Boise St).  Seen his 2025 HL tape, he looked very good.  Yeah his stats so far is not good.

Maliq Allen, St John Bosco HS, #113 N, not in top 200, could not find his stats.  But I’ve been following him and SJB.  I’m guessing his total R stats are 300 yds for 6 G.  Pretty bad.

2028 Class.  These are 2 Calif RB’s dat USC offered.  I hope USC drop them & go after other RB’s, cause these boys would be wasted rides and NIL money.

Malaki Davis, Centennial-Corona, #39 N, not listed in top 200.  6 G = 210 yds, 35 ypg, 5.3 ypc

PS.  Forgot to list a top QB the other day.  2028 class, Jr, Koa Malau, St John Bosco, #49 N.  #86 CIF stats, 6 G = 1,316, 219 ypg, 92/147, 63%, 17 Td’s, 119 QBR.  Average Jr. season so far, he had high expectations.

Buchanan is one of ours. Local boy here. Victor had been terrible for years.  Bit of a ghetto school.  Good athletes but bad parents support and organization.

this year they beat arch rival Apple valley in the bell game.  On 9/11.  Similar to the bell usc and ucla play for.    I think it was a pretty convincing win    20-7.  Apple has been the second best program up here awhile   Produced several college players   Oak hills has been tops   Produced that ucla back Cox a couple years back

after the apple victor game the Victor players and coaches taunted the Apple fans coaches and players with gang signs and middle fingers.   It made national news.  The superintendent of schools and principal were there. It’s  victors biggest home game of the year.

the biggest national news came when the mascot.  A giant rabbit costume with a person inside.  Well the rabbit ran around flipping everyone off.  Including a famous picture flipping off the Apple valley principal.  Bad rabbit !!!!

The admins at Victor witnessed it all and were very embarrassed.  They suspended the entire team.  And mascot.  For a week and forfeited a home game against brea olinda.  National news.  Kinda big deal.

so that kid Buchanan has one less game.  Not sure if he’s a good kid or not.  I do know the mascot is one gangster rabbit and probably shouldn’t be recruited.   I didn’t know that rabbit costumes even  had fingers to be able to make the middle finger sign

Nice back round info Bruddah Java on M. Buchanan and HS FB in Victorville area.  Only a Soph, he is listed at 5-11, 180 lbs.  Speed very good, as a Fr ran 11.15 100 m, 23.2 200 m.  I think by his Sr year, he should grow to 6-0, 195 lbs, get stronger & faster, run 10.8 100 m, 22.3 200 m.  Dang, he has 75+ offers thus far, most of the power 4 FB schools have offered; with USC leading.  He is an all purpose RB, who runs and catches well.  Hope we land this top RB.
