“The 6-2, 300-pounder was coveted by many of the top programs in the country, including Penn State, Michigan, Texas, the very well-positioned Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and dozens of others. So UCLA earning this commitment is a true reflection of the program stepping up to compete with the big boys.

Toia joins a class that already includes four other four-stars in safeties Pole Moala and Khalil Terry, linebacker Colton McKibben, and tight end Zac Fares. With his commitment, the Bruins now have 10 high school commitments before hosting a single official visit, which is truly impressive. UCLA is increasingly in good position to secure a top 25 high school class, and suddenly a top 15 class is starting to emerge as a real possibility.

The younger Toia moved to Texas before last high school season, but was previously a California kid, spending his first two years of high school football at Bishop Montgomery in Torrance.”

UCLA now has the 15th rated class in the country and there’s more to come !

      Toia breaks down his commitment.

The former Southern California native is heading home as Toia announced his commitment to the Bruins moments ago.

“I’m excited to be coming back home to Cali,” Toia said. “I really believe in coach Chesney and his vision for the program. UCLA is a totally different program right now and this staff is going to turn things around.

“I really wasn’t even considering UCLA a few months ago. I cut my list to eight back in February and UCLA wasn’t on the list. The energy is different now and I love the vibe and I can’t wait to get going.”

Toia said there were several reasons why UCLA was able to make up so much ground in a short time.

“It all started when I visited the campus over my Spring Break,” Toia said. “I want to say that was back in January. That was the first time I met the new staff and I was immediately impressed talking with coach Chesney and the entire defensive staff.

“Then I went to several spring practices and I was getting so fired up being there I wanted to suit up and jump out there with the players. Everything is about competition and I love the way the coaches push the players. The way they coach, fits my personality. They coach hard but don’t demean you and it’s positive but tough. I know I’ll be able to develop there.”

Toia played his first two years at Fontana (Calif.) Summit before transferring to Texas before his junior season. His older brother Jay Toia played at UCLA and was a 7th round draft pick of the Dallas Cowboys.

He’s obviously very familiar with the UCLA program as are his parents.

Congrats Bruins, I would put George Toia as a Big Kaboom!  G. Toia is the #7 DL in country, dat deserves a Big Kaboom.  Shaka, UCLA is on roll and getting our Cali kids (SS CIF).  Oh, Bruddah AtlBruin, I believe Toia played at Summit HS, Fontana, Ca and not Bishop Montgomery HS, Torrance.

Yep, being in Los Angeles has its advantages.  Toia said, he’s glad to be back in LA and S. California.  But, all dis success is due to your HC, AC’s and GM pounding down doors.  I think you guys will land 4* QB Dane Weber and dat = a Big Kaboom as well.  Fight On Bruins…  Cheers

Bruddah Butkus, you are so right about all this recruiting success is due to Chesney, AC’s and GM pounding down doors.

      Great get, Bruins!

Color me very optimistic about UCLA’s future.

Lots to prove still, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to say Chesney could very well be the Bruins’ best head coach in over 30 years (since Donahue).

He’s only had 1 losing season in his 16 seasons as a head coach…..
