Anyone Making the trip to State Penn this Fall?

I’m looking to make a bunch if not all of the road games this year. The trip to Happy Valley  looks like a good game. USC hasn’t played there since Rob Johnson was sacked 6 times and USC was blown out 3-14. The 14 came in garbage time in the 4th quarter.

Anyway, I’m thinking of flying into  Philly (great city by the way, great eating) and driving to the game but its a 4 hour drive. Ouch.

Anyone been there that can share some travel ideas?

Hi.  I’m in PA near Pittsburgh.  Three hours drive from Philadelphia to State College if traffic isn’t bad.  You could fly into Pittsburgh, as that might be a tad bit shorter of a drive, 2 hrs. 40 mins. according to google maps.

Either way, it’s likely that’s going to be the Whiteout game which is an awesome sight and the greatest atmosphere in college football.  However, if it is, don’t expect to go anywhere fast if it after the game. Traffic and getting out of the parking lots is a nightmare.

I was at that game in 1994 and thought you just don’t do that scoring 35 points in one half against a USC team.  That team crushed Ohio State 62-14 as well.  The greatest most balanced offense in college football history.

If I can be of any assistance, feel free to ask. Be glad to help as much as possible.

Be glad to help.  Plan a stop at the Berkey Creamery, for some of the best ice cream in the U.S.A., 0.6 miles from Beaver Stadium, and take a photo at the Lion Shrine, the most photographed lion in the world, 0.7 miles further in that same direction away from Beaver Stadium, and he never takes a bad picture. It’s an easy level walk.

If you want to be cool and it’s a WhiteOut, wear white! It’s a visual spectacle at night.

Again, gold nuggets there my guy. Really appreciate it. I used to wear my white road jersey for many years but I’m getting a little long in the tooth to wear a jersey, I lean to a coaches polo now. I was thinking of wearing a red one but I also don’t want to be a dick and attract undue attention from drunk fans. My mentality is different now too. With the jersey I used to joke with  my fam that I wore it in case the team needed help in the secondary and my insurance card was in my left shoe. ( of course the left shoe, lol) The coaches polo brings my competitive juices down. I have been to 4 PSU games, 2 in New Jersey, the Coli and Our second home, the Rose Bowl. PSU fans are like USC fans in many ways. A lot of  mature alumni that are very civil and a random loud mouth here and there. I will prob go with white tho.

BB, take a train to Pennsylvania.  I’m sure there is a way to do that.  Traveling across country on a train with a sleeper, observation lounge, and dining car is a blast.  I did it twice as a child.  I also went from LA to Eugene three times on the train for SC games, once for OSU and twice for the ducks.  Met up with LADuck at the Hilton in Eugene on one trip.

The train is a good idea. I’m actually thinking of driving to the game ( flying back). I need to see more of our beautiful country and driving there checks off a bucket list item. Thanks a bunch for the response.

Bruddah Balls, do not know anything about Happy Valley, Pa.  But, when you’re in Philly, you must go to Reading Terminal Market: Located at 12th and Arch Streets, this historic indoor market operates daily (roughly 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM) offering Amish foods, fresh produce, meats, and seafood.   This place is the best Farmers Market in da nation.  They have most ethnic foods, mucho eating stalls with seats and cheap.  We had A+ seafood, Chinese, Italian, Thai, Jewish deli, Mexican, Indonesian, their famous Philly steak sandwich and of course Amish bakery products.

Then, Philly has the 3rd biggest China Town in America with Xlent restaurants.  Yeah, I agree with you Philly has good eats…  Cheers

Agree on the reading market.  Went to two of their most famously Philly cheesesteak sandwich places when son and I went there to look at the university of Pennsylvania and also Villanova.  Alas the misguided chap wound up at Northeastern

By the time USC visits Beaver Stadium on Oct. 10, Kraft expects Beaver Stadium to have a capacity of 109,000. Before the renovation, Beaver Stadium’s capacity was 106,572.

The stadium attendance record is 111,030 against Ohio State in November 2024, while 111,015 fans attended the White Out against Oregon in September 2025 despite the ongoing construction in the stadium.

An official capacity of 109,000 would make Beaver Stadium the largest stadium in the country. The Big House at Michigan is currently the largest with an official capacity of 107,601.

“It’s what we forecasted out with the upper bowl being done, and so we’re going to ease into it,” Kraft said. “The goal right now, we want to hit — it won’t be Marshall, but USC looks like the game that they will have all the construction done, bench seating up top on the upper bowl.

Bigger than the Big House baby!!!
