Just saw one of USC main podcaster show, along with his guess, beat writer for Sports Illustrated who has access to practices.  They covered several topics.

      1.  Young guys, most impactful, impressive players all summer camp.  These guys will see the field and in the rotation.

Defense:  DL Tomu Topui, LB Talanoa Ili, DB Alex Graham, DE Luke Waffle, DE Jayden Ramos, DB Madden Riordan.  SI writer said the D looks very good, very physical, playing fast.  Watch out for our D dis season.

Offense:  TE Mark Bowden, Wr Trent Mosley, Wr Kayden Dixion Wyatt, Wr Boobie Feaster, OL Hayden Treter, RB room.  The RB’s looks strong, fast and good depth.  C.LR will run da ball hard dis season.  The OL looks sharp, strong and will make C.LR run game potent.  C.LR ran the ball 1st and hard in 2025 but he lost his RB1 and RB2 early into the season.  Thank God for King Miller and others who took over.

SI guy said our Wr room is young but very talented.  It’s deep, C.LR will play 6 main guys and 2 more = total of 8 Wr.  1st string:  T. Anderson, T. Hines, Trent Mosley.  2nd group:  Zac Williams, Kayden Dixon Wyatt, Boobie Feaster.  2 others:  Corey Simms, Romero Ison, or Tron Baker

I’m trying to temper my expectations but it’s not easy. This is the most talent I have seen at USC in a long time. Maybe since Clay’s third ranked (final AP poll) 2016 team.

The trenches look stacked and the skill positions are USC caliber. When the Trojans are good we bring the premier athletes. Can’t wait to rip thru the cupcake tray (first 4 games) and get on with some B1G boy football.
      Good post Bruddah!

Oh one mo thing.  SI writer said, QB Maiava and QB2 Jonas Williams pulled the mesh sometimes all summer camp.  Yeah, it’s all good when our QB’s run sometimes.  He said Jonas looked very good running the ball.  He believes C. LR will run the rock hard.  Shaka!  The run game will open up the passing game.  Noticed dat on run plays, TE Bowers is a fierce blocker (pancaked LB and DB’s) + the Wr’s blocked well.  Yeah, C. LR O will roll dis 2026.  Let’s hope injuries are minimal.

Also, SI writer said the D will be much improved and very physical.  One bright spot, the LB’s looked very good all summer; 1st string Stephens, Walker, 2nd group D. Bryant, T. Robinson, J. Walker and Talanoa were animals.  They said good things about Bryant and will be the 1st substitute.  All our LB’s will see the field. All Xlent news.

After hearing the podcast show; I’m excited for our FB team…  Cheers

Running the ball successfully – getting that third and short or 3rd and goal – and remaining balanced is going to go a long way. My question is the O line. Was last year’s pleasant surprise the outlier, or will the success up front continue? We will nevr be a time of possession type of team, we ranked mid 60’s last two years. But being able to sustain an end of game drive to secure a win would be nice.

Here are some insane high scoring games last week, 8-29-26.

      1.  South Carolina St (W) vs Savannah St, 87-0.  SC St:  P = 204 yds, 4 Td, R = 415 yds, 8 Td = 619 T yds

      2.  Illinois St (W) vs St Francis, 76-0.  48-0 half.  Sorry no stats. My guess Illinois 600+ T yds

      3.  South Dakota St (W) vs Stetson, 70-7.  S.Dakota St:  P = 238 yds, 2 Td, R = 393 yds, 7 Td’s = 631 T yds

      4.  Utah (W) vs Idaho, 66-14.  Utah:  P = 269 yds, 3 Td’s, R = 365 yds, 6 Td’s = 634 T yds

      5.  USC (W) vs San Jose St, 42-26.  USC: P = 341 yds, 2 Td’s, R = 166 yds, 4 Td’s = 507 T yds   Dang, pedestrian O compared to these teams…  Cheers

We’re told by some not to look ahead, but it’s difficult not to.

Our game – Oregon at SC – on Sept 26th looms large.  It will be epic.  Glad it’s at the Coliseum as at least we quacks will have an excuse for not winning (not really, of course – can’t win at SC or at the ‘Shoe, and probably shouldn’t be in the national championship conversation).

What makes it more exasperating is that your Trojans will have played 2 full games before my quacks play even 1 game.

I have already gone on record here again saying Oregon will lose at USC and at tOSU, barely making the playoffs – but (barring an injury to Dante) will win out after that….  My increasing concern for Oregon’s young O-line, our biggest weakness next to FG kicking, makes me think twice about that prediction right now…

But I do firmly believe USC makes the playoffs this season, and order will thus be restored to many here in the WW.

      NCAA FB stats.

Team Offense, USC = 9th, 528 ypg    No surprise here.

Team Defense, USC = 9th, 226 ypg.  Big Shaka.  D was the main concern. Hooray DC Patterson fixed things.  Last 2 years under DA Lynn USC #42 & #49 = 350 ypg.

      QBR.  L. Maiava = 5th 218 pts, 4th passing yds per game = 318 yds, total passing TD’s #1 = 5 Td’s

      9-5-26 FB Games.

These schools and teams were impressive on O and D.  Saw most games by switching and their HL tapes.  Man their stats were incredible.  Granted they played lower tier teams, so what.  For fun, I’m ranking their performance.  Elements in my ranking metrics (D stats, QB stats, O stats, rushing stats, level of opponent, physicality, team speed, team tackling & blocking.

      1.  LSU (W) vs Clemson, 51-10.  2 powerhouses playing their 1st game.  Dang, LSU crushed Clemson.  LSU in my eyes was the best team Saturday.  LSU O = P 335 yds, R = 320 yds = 665 T yds (wow).  D = P 105 yds, R 40 yds = 145 T yds.  Clemson is known as a hard running team.  Dang, LSU stuffed their RB’s.  LSU is a very physical team with A+ team speed.  C. L Kiffin will go far with this team.

      2.  UGA (W) vs Tennessee St, 63-3.  UGA clicked on all cylinders.  O = P 388 yds, R = 273 yds = 661 T yds (wow).  D = P 99 yds, R = 10 yds = 109 T yds.  2nd string played most of 2nd half, no drop off.  UGA is deep with top talent, top 4 in nation.  Dang, UGA is gonna make the CFP final 4.

      3.  Ohio St (W) vs Ball St, 56-3.  O = P 434 yds, R = 237 yds = 671 T yds (Crazy). D = P 120 yds, R 46 yds = 166 T yds.  Team looked very good.  The 1st string did not play the 2nd half.  Ohio St 2nd string would be 1st string for many other teams.  Best talent in college FB.

      4.  USC (W) vs Fresno St., 39-0.  Fresno St is no slouch, dat’s a very good FB team.  O = P 412 yds, R = 141 yds = 553 T yds. Good O night, but I think the R game must do better 195 – 210 yds.  D = P 77 yds, R 40 yds = 117 T yds.  Hell DC Patterson D showed up in dis game.  They were very physical, fast, got 2 QB safeties, 2 TO’s, stuffed the R, rattle da QB.  Hope our boys can keep up dat type of play all season?

      5.  Texas AM (W) Missouri St, 50-0.  Texas AM looked very good vs a good team.  Man the SEC is gonna be a War.  O = P 269 yds, R 236 yds = 505 T yds (balanced O)  A+ RB’s and top OL.  D = P 30 yd, R 37 yds = 67 T yds; now dat’s just Nuts.  Hats off to Texas AM they should make the CFP.

      6.  Miami (W) vs Stanford, 45-6.  Good game, Stanford is a solid FB team.  Miami played good FB.  O = 428 yds, R 122 yds = 550 T yds.  QB Mensha played well, P 27/30, 401 yds, 5 Td’s.  D = P 221 yds, R 78 yds = 299 T yds.  Stanford moved the ball, just could not put up pts.

      7.  Alabama (W) vs East Carolina, 48-10.  Heck East Carolina is a good FB team.  2025, Bama had problems with their R game and D, but C. Deboer fixed these 2 problematic areas.  O = P 260 yds, R 231 yds = 491 T yds.  D = P 160 yds, R 29 yds = 189 T yds.  Look out for Bama, they are back.

      8.  Notre Dame (W) vs Wisconsin, 41-13.  ND beat a solid Wisconsin team.  Physical game on both sides.  ND O = P 239 yds, R 111 yds = 358 T yds.  Missing RB Love.  Wisconsin O = P 217, R 67 = 284 T yds.  ND stuffed Wis RB’s.

      9.  ASU (W) vs Morgan St, 70-7.  ASU looked dam good yesterday. Once again, HC Dillingham has another top FB team.  ASU made the CFP in 2024.  O = P 432 yds, R 249 yds = 681 T yds (Wow).  D = P 61 yds, R 102 yds, 188 T yds.  1st string did not play 2nd half and the 2nd string kept it going.  No name players, look out for ASU.

      10.  Oklahoma (W) vs UTEP. 51-0  UTEP is a good FB team, but OU blanked them.  HC Venebles once again has a tuff D team.  Shaka his O looked sharp yesterday.  O = P 231 yds, R 170 yds = 401 T yds.  D = P 86 yds, R 112 yds = 198 T yds.  Man the SEC is gonna be tuff.  With only 3 teams making the CFP, it’s gonna be War in the SEC.

      11.  Penn St (W) vs Marshall, 45-0.  Penn St was so physical, poor Marshall.  The 1st string only played partially in 3rd Qt and their 2nd string took over.  C. Campbell got Penn St back.  O = P 324 yds, R 163 yds = 487 T yds.  D = P 103 yds, R = 44 yds = 147 T yds. Former UCLA, USC DC DA Lynn has a solid D.  If PS keeps playing like this they will be strong contenders making the CFP

      12.  Ole Miss (W) vs Louisville, 41-38.  Wow an O shootout, QB dual..  Louisville almost pull out da W. Impressed with their O and no Lane Kiffin.  Miss O = P 336, R 173 = 509 T yds.  QB Chamblis had an outstanding game, P 336 yds, ran 60 yds, he and AA Wr Alexander were awesome, = 159 yds rec.  Louisville QB Kienholz (Ohio St transfer) P 307 yds, ran 70 yds had a great game.  Good thing he transferred out of Ohio St, good for Louisville. Kienholz showed why he was a top 4* HS QB.

      13.  BYU (W) vs Utah Tech, 63-7.  Dang who is Utah Tech (never heard of them) and how do they have a FB team?  Any way, BYU killed them, poor Utah Tech.  O = P 213 yds, R 312 yds = 515 T yds.  D = P 130 yds, R 49 yds = 179 T yds.

      14.  Utah (W) vs Idaho, 66-14.  What a night of O for Utah: P 269 yds, R 365 yds = 634 T Yds (Insane O).  D = 119 yds, R 106 yds = 225 T yds.  Heck, Idaho did good on O.

Top teams, Indiana, Oregon, Michigan and Texas won but were only OK.  1st game jitters, must cleanup some stuff.  I’m betting their HC will get them play to their pre-season rankings & expectations.

Texas (W) vs Texas St,  59-7 a very good O night.  O = P 360 yds, R 156 yds = 490 T yds.  But, their D played soft.  Texas St O = P 188 yds, R 161 yds = 349 T yds.  Texas porous D is big reason why I did not put them on my list.  Like last year, Texas D was da weak link.  C. Sark had better clean dis up, he plays Ohio St next week, then several SEC big boys.

      Miami  (W) vs Florida A&M, 77-7

      Dang, Miami has a powerhouse.  O = P 27/29, 93%, 426 yds, 6 Td’s, R = 43 carries 430 yds, 5 Td’s = 856 T yds (just nuts).  Pre-season Miami was predicted in the top 10 offenses.  I said no way, due to last year being ranked 35th.  I’m eating my words…  Cheers

      Oh, Miami’s D is a killer.  Florida AM, O = P 70 yds, R 37 yds = 107 T yds.  Their only score was on a fumble pickup for a TD.

      Last week vs Stanford.  Miami’s O = P 30/35 427 yds, R 31 carries 122 yds = 549 T yds.

      USC (W)  vs Louisiana, 49-30.

Disappointed with da the D.  Last week D was 2 steps forward, dis game 3 steps backward.  Come on Louisiana scoring 30 pts and mucho offensive yards 387 T yds.  Plus, 8 flags = 78 yds, 2 fumbles, 3 Wr drops (all bad).  This ain’t gonna cut it against Ohio St, Indiana, Oregon, Penn St, UCLA, UDub.  But, we will take da W..

      C. LR O was very good, A grade.  P 20/30, 269 yds, 5 Td’s, I IT, QBR 191, R 39 times, 215 yds, 1 Td  =  484 T yds.  The R game really improved and must continue producing 185 yds or more.  RB King Miller ran hard = 124 yds.  P = 30 plays, R = 39 plays = 69 T plays.  Like the O game plan by C. LR.

Wow, Trent Mosley played another great game.  C.LR unleashed Mark Bowman and Bowman showed why he was a 5* HS TE.

      DC Patterson D, last week D = A+.  Dis week, C-.  Louisiana O = P 16/22, 212 yds, I Td, R = 30 times 146 yds, 3 Td’s.  = 387 T yds.  Dam if Louisiana O racked up mucho yds, hell what will da Big Boys do?  DT QB Winfield is a fine FB player, P 16/22, 212 yds, 1 Td, R 14 times 91 yds = 303 T yds.

Saw many missed tackles & blown coverage.  Grading the units, safeties = D, CB = C, LB = D, DL = B.  Back to the drawing board for DC Patterson.

PS.  Concerned with QB Maiava, at times seen him shaking/loosening his shoulders on his throwing arm.  In the Fresno St game he got tackled hard, hope it’s just a mild bruise and nothing more serious?

USC.  Not good folks, USC’s stats dropped a lot.  The bright spot is QB Maiava stats.  C.LR must be aware of this and keep padding his stats for Heisman consideration.  But, most of all win games; the Heisman committee heavily weighs voting on stats and team record.  Maiava has a very good shot making the final 4 and go to NY.

      Total Offense.  #26, 513 ypg (last week #9).  Scoring #29, 43 ppg

Total Defense.  #42, 270 ypg (last week #9), Allowed Scoring #62, 18.67 pgg (last week #29)

      QB Maiava.  QBR #8 208.75 pts.  Passing yds pg #12, 298.67 ypg, TD’s #1 = 10

      Wr Trent Mosley.  Rec yds pg, #36, 85 ypg, TD’s #5, 4 Td’s

RB King Miller.  Rush yds pg, #46, 78.7 ypg,

RB W. Jordan.  Rush yds pg #145, 54 ypg

One bright spot for me was that the running game improved. Waymo flashed signs of what he was prior to the injury last year. Before this game he didn’t seem the same, and the run blocking seemed a half step behind to me. Miller had the kind of game I expected him to have the first two games, looked solid.

On the negative side, Maiava def looked like his throws were off. Agree with Clem, let him rest. They won’t, but I’m hoping they play well enough to where he can be pulled at halftime. Unlikely it will happen, but one can dream. Of course the biggest issue is the defense. Major drop-off after the starters got pulled. That almost interception by Lui in the endzone followed by the punt return for the TD seemed to energize the D, but up tilt that point I’d say even the starters looked meh overall. Def not good enough to beat the cream of the conference.

      USC (W) vs Rutgers, 45-35

      Stats.  USC.  O = P 20/32, 63%, 277 yds, 2 TD, 156 QBR

      R = 30, 189 yds, 2 Td  =  466 T yds

      Rutgers O = P 19/37, 51%, 292 yds, 3 TD, 2 IT’s (1 pick 6), 125 QBR

      R 31, 195 yds, 2 Td  =  487 yds

Dam it, USC pulled out a close win.  O was very good, B+ grade.  Another game, RB W. Jordon has not played well = 25 yds.  Bright side, RB Worrmley took over as RB2 and played well; R 52 yds, 2 pass rec = 20 yds & 2 Td’s.  D was bad again, worst than last week vs Louisiana, grade D.  Reason not an F, had 2 IT’s with 1 pick 6.  So many missed tackles, gave mucho yds on R plays, missed pass coverage.  What in da hell is DC Patterson doing at practices?

After San Jose St, D was #9, after Louisiana D was at #43.  After dis game Rutgers, it will fall to around da #70’s?  D is regressing at an alarming rate.

With 3/4 games of bad D, does not look good for the remaining schedule.  I see losing 4 to 5 games and no CFP.  Even if QB Maiava kills it on his stats for rest of season, he won’t make da Final 4 Heisman candidates and invited to NY.  The H committee factors team’s W & L record Mucho…  Cheers

Our D should be very good; they practice against a top O all week.  Things are just not making sense.  What is DC Patterson doing in weekly practices?  The D is regressing and failing big time at games (allowing Mucho pts and T yds).  Where is that amazing D from the Fresno St game…  Cheers

PS.   A team will not be successful (growing pains) with young players (Fr and Soph) no matter how talented.  USC’s roster is filled with mostly young guys, 65%.

Problem is our D practices against a finesse type offense that they don’t face in the season. That’s how I see it, so when a straight-ahead blocking O line comes their way they haven’t practiced against one and seem to get lost. Something is up with the DBs for sure, some are saying the play calls are coming in too late?

      10-3-26    College FB Games

      USC (W)  vs  UDub, 25-21

Ugly W, but we gotta take it.  The D Front 6 played well; grade A-.  They pretty much stopped da R game and pressured QB Williams all night making him pass under pressure, scrambling for his life = 59% accuracy.  But, good lord the 2ndary needs a sheet load of work (gave up too many big plays and awful tackling).  UDub’s TE Td was a joke; who tackles like dat (pushing, shoving).  The UDub RB pass TD, showed 3 USC DB’s in the EZ leaving the TE wide open and covering empty spots (they looked lost).

What’s strange our DB’s were top HS players who tackled well in their HS careers.  What da fock happened to them at USC?  Our LB’s of T.Robinson, D. Bryant, E. Newby were a breath of fresh air.  These 3 played well.  Fr DE Luke Wafle is gonna make All Fr AA honors; dam good FB player.

USC’s O played average, maybe below average.  QB Maiava was hot and cold.  Many of his passes were too high.  Too bad on KD Wyatt TD which was called back for illegal formation (missed 7 pts).  Dam he did not record a reception.  The 2, two pt conversion were poorly designed and bad calls (loss 2 pts).  Shoot the score should have been 34-21.

      USC O = P 23/34, 62%, 245 yds, 1 TD, I IT, QBR 126.  R 34 times 117 yds = 396 T yds.  Way below their avg of 498 T ypg.  USC D or UDub O = P 16/27, 59%, 203 yds, 1 TD, R 33 times 116 yds, 1 Td = 319 T yds.

UDub has a very good D holding USC O under their T ypg by 100 yds.  Tuff boys, very physical, they tackle well.  QB D. Williams is quick, Xlent legs, runner.

Looking at USC’s remaining games, I’m gonna predict % odds of W vs L.  Good thing USC does not play Minnesota, Iowa and Michigan.

      Penn St, 50/50.  Tight game.

Wisconsin, 60/40.  USC should beat Whiskey

      Ohio St, 30/70.  Lose

      Indy, 40/60.  Lose

      Maryland, 70/30.  Win

UCLA, 52/48.  Rival game, gonna be a big battle.  UCLA is playing good FB.  Gonna be very close, but USC pulls out the W.
