Looking back, 2005 USC averaged 49 points per game, and gave up an average of 23 points per game.

2005 USC defeated 14th-ranked Arizona State 38-28, beat 16th-ranked Fresno State 50-41 and had to rally to defeat ninth-ranked Notre Dame 34-31 in the “Bush Push” game. The Trojans lost to No. 2 Texas 41-38 at the Rose Bowl in the national championship game.

How good was 2005 USC’s offense? The explosive Trojans did not score less than 34 points in any game in 2005, and scored more than 50 points seven times.

2008 USC had the number one defense in the country, giving up only nine points per game while scoring 37.5 points per game on offense. Against ranked teams, the Trojans were 4-0, beating fifth-ranked Ohio State 35-3, beating number 23 Oregon 44-10 and defeating number 21 California 17-3, and then defeated sixth-ranked Penn State 38-24 in the Rose Bowl. In their third game of the season, USC lost to unranked Oregon State 27-21.

How good was USC’s #1 defense? They held 10 opponents to 10 points or less and eight of them to seven points or less.

Looking back, which USC team was better?  2005 or 2008?
