ParticipantSOROS STRIKES CLOSE TO HOME
The alert hit my phone at about 1 p.m. The street address of the murder was less than a mile from both my place of work and, crucially, the school my kids attend.
The suspect was armed and on the loose. Later, my wife would tell me it was the second time she’d had to alert our school that a shooter was on the loose.
About an hour later, authorities had nabbed the guy. Marvin Fernando Morales-Ortez.
Ortez’s story is wild. He was booked in mid-September on charges of brandishing a firearm and malicious assault that led to injury. Fairfax DA Steve Descano then moved to drop all charges. Descano was propelled to election in 2019 through the ironically named “Justice for Public Safety PAC,” a George Soros project.
On immigration, however, he did direct his prosecutors not to bring charges in cases that would have immigration consequences.
Enter Mr. Ortez. The judge approved Descano’s move to drop the charges. Ortez was released Tuesday. On Wednesday, he made good on his threats and allegedly killed someone in a residential block that is, again, less than a mile from where I sit right now.
Ortez is an illegal alien with a long rap sheet. Larceny, disorderly conduct, assault and battery twice, once on a police officer. Going back years. He was also charged with first-degree murder in 2021. Again, those charges were dropped.
The DHS excoriated Fairfax prosecutors, saying that if they’d cooperated with immigration authorities, whoever Ortez (allegedly) just killed would still be alive right now.
