  Thanxs Bruddah for sharing dat neat story. Isaac Shin (Korean), played Wr/DB up here (Santa Clarita Valley) for Valencia HS + volleyball. He was a starter on O & D. Valencia is our top HS for FB winning many Foothill League championships. His Wr stats were modest, Valencia is a run oriented O (Brian Bonner, #1 RB in Calif), but he made an impact on D. Physical guy, tackles well and pass covers well. Shin is a very good athlete, so it’s not surprising he made USC FB team via WO.
  
  The kid graduated with a 4.62 GPA, smart kid. Congrats to Isaac for making the team (only 2/12 WO made it). Shoot, about 100 players applied and only 12 were awarded for try outs… Cheers

    Thank you Bruddah for adding that background color to the story. I figured Isaac Shin had some ball skills and some good wheels to make the team. Great story.

    I never had the desire or understood the appeal to be a walk on. I guess a case like King Miller perpetuates this fantasy for another 100 years
    
    but the idea of doing everything of varsity athlete does. The practices the training the weightlifting the requirement, but not getting to travel. Not ever getting even a garbage play and a game. But just simply being a tackling dummy and then cleaning up after everybody else else’s crap at the end of practice just doesn’t seem like much of a reward
    
    when my son went to TCU. He was asked by many if he was going to walk on the baseball team. Several people in PFA his travel organization said that he could be a preferred walk on there. But the reality is that he probably would’ve been the 30th 40th or 50th player on the roster and therefore the third or fourth string shortstop or wherever they would have put him probably not the outfield because he didn’t have power
    
    he took a look at it and decided that he was a interested in playing three or four years at practice and never getting to put on a uniform or play so he pretty much made the same decision

  I think in Shin’s case, he’s not looking for a free ride from USC, he just wanted to continue playing FB in college. He has a deep passion for the sport. Like you said, he must go to practice, do the year round cross training + study. Man dat’s tuff. A kid like him, most likely elected a difficult curriculum and degree.
  
  Shoot gotta give him mucho credit making the team. This is a one a life time accomplishment. He will have all the pictures and teammates that can meet up and talk about their playing days at USC. Shoot, I do not even know the kid, but I’m proud as heck. What a feel good story. A Big Shaka & Fight On to Isaac Shin… Cheers
