No it was typical anti Trump GOP anti sacrificial Lambs. And yes shutdown was well “timed”.

      prob a coincidence by DC

and Trump didn’t win NYC Virginia or New Jersey in 2024 either

Big night for the Democrats PT. Some observations:

      1) it’s still about the economy just like in the presidential election. Building a $300 million ballroom while people struggle financially is a tone deaf move. It’s always about the economy and it is not going well. Egg prices brought Biden down.
      2) I saw the huge lines to vote on TV. Trump brings out the vote but when he is not on the ballot, his detractors outnumber conservatives. That’s bad news for the GOP.

      3) Latinos are turning on Trump. We saw that in NewJersey where Latinos voted Democrat again. The economy and the approach to immigration ( casting a wider net than just criminals) are turning them back to the democrats .
      4) Democrats got a boost in their redistricting efforts. Newsom had a good night as he positions himself for a presidential run.

as for the government shutdown, Americans tend to focus more on their personal financial situation than immigration. The demonization of immigrants isn’t the winner Republicans think it is and the GOP learned that last night. I suspect they find an off ramp and the government will be open this week

Republicans placed a big bet that a majority of Americans were dumb enough to believe their lie that Democrats’ position on extending ACA subsidies was all about “free healthcare for illegals.” They lost that bet.
