ParticipantAverage life expectancy of a male is 78, so you only collect for 8 years. Total BS. Average life expectancy of a woman is 81. Im going to get a sex change operation when I hit 78 so I can collect SS an extra few years. Chess not checkers.
When France raised their retirement age from 62 to 64 they had riots in the streets. In America we just bend over and let the politicians rip us off.
If you can swing it, collect at 62 ( unless they change that too). If you don’t need the money, invest it. The system is rigged to discourage you from taking your money early. Covid saved the social security fund a lot of money.-

ParticipantYes yes yes yes and yes.
now address my point. And answer WHY would a GOP talk about this 12 months before the midterms while “his” party has the senate the house and the WH?

ParticipantI took my SS at 62. I didn’t need the increases at my ‘full’ retirement at 66 or 110% at 70 and did some simple arithmetic and the break-even point was around 78. I got a notice from SS when I started, questioning if I ‘needed’ to take SS at 62 and ‘needed’ further assistance. I ignored it and my wife 2 years later received no such notice.
I don’t need the money but am spending it, not ‘investing’ it. I did that for 40 years and I don’t have to that anymore. I still have my current investments that we haven’t spent still in our portfolio earning money anyway.

KeymasterI intend to take it at 62. Got awhile to worry about that.
I will probably invest it just to see what I can do with it. I have plenty of money. Houses paid for. Kids college all done. Her kids I’ve been told hands off. They have a dad and even though I could make a huge difference that’s their dad’s thing. So okkkkkkkk I’m out there too.
I really can’t think of what to spend it on. Do I want to keep growing my company? Why? None of my kids want it. I could probably buy a defensive back or two but how many floors can they sweep? Besides I’m old school and this idea of paying kids millions irks me.
im still kinda fixated on buying a senator. If that’s too expensive you think I might be able to afford a congressman and a state rep?

KeymasterIt’s a good idea but few people have the political courage to make it happen. Should raise the SS age to 70-75 too
