There is still a very strong extreme right wing sentiment in Spain today. Mold left over from the Generalissimo Francisco Franco days , a staunch Hitler ally. I was is Spain for a month this summer. A foodie paradise. The Tapas concept is genius. In my stay in the Iberian peninsula I got to talk to locals at bars, restaurants and taxis. All of the people I spoke with were shocked at who we elected as our president. They just shake their heads in amazement at our folly. But that wasn’t a surprise, it was what I found throughout Europe. They’re laughing at us guys. Lot of anti Israel demonstrations in London, Paris and Spain but no strays directed at us.
What was a surprise in Spain was many folks who say immigrants are welcome because they have an aging population and Spanish young people aren’t having kids. Population decline is a big worry in Spain.
