Nice gets by the Bruin staff. No one should be surprised by the recent recruiting success in Westwood. A good coach is going to leverage the fact that he is brand new and disassociate from the struggles of the past. UCLA has plenty of positives to sell besides the obvious, location and playing time.

What is surprising to me is that Oregon is getting shut out in California recruiting. Califlock is a thing of the past and I’m not sure why. USC beating the Duck out of Oregon for recruits should surprise no one but UCLA locking them out is a mystery given the NIL war chest imbalance. USC’s limited number of rides also bodes well for UCLA.

What is surprising to me, BB, is that most Trojan fans fail to understand that a good part of the reason for USC’s success over Oregon in recruiting your local state is that SC is willing to spend more for local CA talent than Oregon is.

Oregon is not willing to do so.

Fine, USC wants to overspend to keep kids in So Cal?  Great, we’ll go to:

      Oklahoma

      North Carolina

      Arizona

      Texas (x2)

      Alabama (x2)

      Pennsylvania

      Utah

      Oregon

      etc.

and, yes, occasionally California, if (as Mr Barker would say) the price is right….

….to get ours – and without any such USC premium attached.

My quacks are on no mission to say they are building a fence around one state.  (Oregon already has landed, and routinely lands, the #1 recruit in Oregon, not that it matters much…lol)

Instead, I guess you could say Oregon is building a fence around…….the good ol’ US of A. 🙂

LA, I am not aware of SC overspending on CA players.  Last year maybe, but I don’t believe it’s happening with the current 2027 class.  Cali players can stay in LA area and have the great weather and the beaches to enjoy and watch the Lakers, Clippers, Dodgers, Angels, Rams and Chargers if they want.  If they choose Eugene they can enjoy the 6th Street Grill and smoke weed. LOL!

Except it’s not just USC beating the feathers off you in California recruiting. It’s UCLA, it’s Cal, It’s ATM, It’s UW. USC is taking the best players but Oregon is not even in the competition for the  next level of talent.  Something else is happening.

Of the top 100 players i n California Oregon has one and he isn’t even from SoCal. UCLA has 7, Cal has 6, UW has 5, Oklahoma has 4, Ohio State,  Georgia, ATM, BYU, Nebbie all are taking USC’s leftovers but Oregon is being outbid by USC ? I don’t think so. Oregon has only ever been good when it has a bunch of California players.
Oregon may have burned itself with California players by recruiting over them. The word in California is that Oregon doesn’t develop talent. You’re watching the window close in real time LAD.

BB, what makes UCLA’s recruiting success even more remarkable is they haven’t even hosted one official visit yet.

        😂🤦‍♂️😂🤦‍♂️

Ok. Then explain it for a dumb guy like me can understand. How and why? In the NIL era

Dena, do you remember when Pete Carroll was first hired? His relentless energy, optimism and enthusiasm started attracting
high end recruits. Chesney has those same personality traits. Both are/were also relentless recruiters along with
their respective coaching and support staffs.

Lol. You really believe that’s all it is?  A poor kid ain’t gonna take $500k at 17 because they like the coach’s smile and a perennially losing FB team?  I mean it’s a take….

So what is the proper way to recruit in today’s NIL landscape?  Tell us, oh knowledgeable one.  What is USC doing that is so pure and righteous? What are the Bruins doing with their current recruiting that is so below your standards of college football excellence?  Please, by all means…you have the floor.
