Who is Lynn taking with him is the question.
USC on the clock, Coach Pete K looking like the early favorite.
Thank you for your service, now we can jump to the next level.

ParticipantLynn doesn’t let the grass grow under his feet that’s for sure. He did help us bring the defense up and I loved his 2nd half adjustments but it’s clear USC passed on retaining him. Nice to see other teams come after our coaches for a change. Many folks thinks Coach K is coming.
Can we do better?

ParticipantNot a surprise. Everyone in college football knows that Lincoln Riley is a fraud that has maybe 1 more year at USC. The rats are simply jumping to a more stable situation. Why stay at USC when next year when they’ll likely have a new AD, new HC and new GM.
The only people who still believe in Riley are the dopey fanbois who cheer his and Cohen’s every move.

ParticipantDoesn’t feel like a sinking ship at USC right now. Number one recruiting class coming in with 35 players plus the portal guys we are going to sign. The HS class has some really good talent. The DC hire will be critical.
The top rated QB in the conference coming back, Waymo coming back.Oh we comin’

ParticipantAnd how many of those true freshman are going to help USC next year. Hint if you’re depending upon true freshmen to stabilize the program you’re in deep doo doo..
Secondly, SC has a standard. Riley hasn’t lived up to the standard so far and next year, in year 5, he’s conservatively looking at 3-4 losses. 3+ losses means no playoffs in 2026. So you tell me, are USC fans really looking forward to wait ’til year 6 (2027).
I mean how long does SC NOW give a HC to prove their worth. Normally at power programs you get 4 years. LSU canned Kelly after 4 years because he wasn’t meeting the standard. Riley will be entering year 6 before he (maybe) sniffs the playoffs and yet many fans just can’t bring themselves to be the least bit critical of the programs fortunes under him and Cohen.

ParticipantI never count on true freshmen to make a difference their first year. I agree with that. Let’s recognize we haven’t met the USC standard since probably 2008. 17 years ago. Helton’s 2016 Rose Bowl team is probably the only exception. Kiff, Sark, Clay all failed.
Fire Riley and we are 4 years away from being four years away again. I’m tired of being four years away.
And it’s not like we have a great record of hiring coaches. We have the best offensive mind in football and he is still a young guy. -

ParticipantTrue freshmen these days make real impact across college football. That was not the case in the past, but the money ball era has changed the focus of high school players in a dramatic way. I believe 4 or 5 SC freshmen will make a significant impact. The freshmen QBs are another matter altogether, as they need a lot of reps to make the transition to the college level.
SC’s biggest loss IMO is Walker Lyons, should he follow through with his transfer portal plans.

KeymasterStupid take. Lynn improved USC. Was knowles ditching a sinking ship after leaving Ohio the State after last year? He went to State Penn too
He was jumping on to a sinking ship. Which with their recruiting disaster this year State Penn may end up being.
USC is better and now has more $ and a buyout to go buy another top DC

LA DuckParticipantInteresting. Me thinks USC will get a much better DC in the end.
What is also interesting is that Lanning has never lost an OC or a DC to a lateral move at Power 4 program or for a better position at a Group of 5 program.
Lost OC Dilly for him to become HC at ASU.
Lost OC Stein for him to become HC at Kentucky.
Lost DC Lupoi for him to become HC at Cal.Unlike many HCs, Lanning actively WANTS his coaches to develop and get head coaching opportunities. Just the way the guy operates. And it helps make Oregon an attractive place to coach knowing that’s the likely outcome if they do well there.
