Time to Take the Lynn to Penn State rumors seriously?

I’m starting to think maybe there is something to this rumor.
I like second half Lynn and hope he stays. First half Lynn ? Meh

Campbell brought Iowa State’s DC Jon Heacock to Penn State. Heacock was the DC at Iowa State for 10 years. Why would Lynn go to Penn State?

The noise is louder this morning, although in addition to State Penn there are other suitors for Lynn. Why Penn State? He is an alum. I don’t know why Heacock isn’t the automatic DC. Here is an PSU insider commenting;

We’re told “there’s a real chance” that Penn State can pull off this hire after recent days of navigating through some dynamics. The situation was described as “inside the red zone right now”.

Our understanding is that there is no deal yet agreed upon by both parties, but we were given an anticipated timeline of things being figured out (whether that’s staying at USC or leaving for PSU) by the weekend. A source close to USC passed along that Lynn’s buyout is a key topic of discussion.

Meanwhile, we’re told that Lynn “has a couple other things on the table”. But, the anticipation from that source is, if PSU can deal with the buyout piece, then State College would be his most likely destination should he depart Los Angeles. And there is a growing belief he is primed to leave LA.

“Additionally, there is certainly a sense that USC people are bracing for Lynn’s potential exit. Again, that doesn’t mean his return to Happy Valley is imminent, but we continue to gather intel that suggests Penn State is very much in play to make this happen.”

Heck, I won’t lose an ounce of sleep if DC Lynn moves on.  From the time of his hire, I figure it was gonna be a short gig at USC anyway.  After seeing his D in 2 years, USC deserves better.  LB, DB AC’s must go too.  $2 M man Aloha Oe.  We got to get a DC dat’s physical minded and able to correct things in hurry.  The new DC will have plenty of talent at his disposal and must bring new, competent AC’s.   We need a DC dat put USC in Top 15 for Total D and Scoring D stats.

2025 season stats under DC Lynn.  Pretty bad.  He never really fixed his D all year, his DB’s kept make stupid mistakes, LB play was awful, DL was the bright spot.  Many times the LB’s and DB’s looked lost out there, too many blown coverage or FU’s…  Cheers

I would think an open DC position at USC would be easy to fill with a really good coach.

Seems like a great place to prove your stuff – hands off by the head coach CLR since he’s an offensive guy, and it looks like USC is playing the NIL game really well these days.

What’s not to like?

That said, and with all due respect, what is to like about Lynn that makes PSU (and apparently others) want him so badly? Is he that good of a DC? Or does he just want out?

If he does stay, it will be interesting to see how much USC can climb in 2026 from being #47 in Total and Scoring D in 2025 with a ton of new and likely much better defensive players.

Agree LA.  If Lynn leaves I won’t miss him, as he underperformed IMO.

DC are like starting qbs.  Get too much of the blame when teams lose.  The next guy is always the hero

defenses take year to build. It’s why state Penn had the same system and coaches for years.  Until they started gay raping little boys.  maybe Lynn is into that sort of thing and wants to make state Penn gay again

anyway if you see where USC was before his arrival and now   Huge difference   They are trending the right direction   In four of their last 5 games they’ve allowed 3 3 0 and 0 points in the second half   How people can ignore that is beyond me

 

I agree with you that USC with the $ they’ve put into staff  NIL  Bowden and facilities  should be able to find a very good one   Hopefully quickly before the portal sucks in their players

I would imagine with all the rumors out there dragging on that cohen and maybe Bowden are already burning up the phones of agents and have measures the interest of leonhard  orgeron and kwiatowksi   It not then phooey on  them

Lynn only leaves when he feels the team will have a big drop off in production, so he must know something is up.

Rumor is if Lynn leaves, USC will hire Pete Kwiatkowski, who would be an upgrade over Lynn.
