DaystalkerParticipantHow much of this is the players not wanting to play and put in extra work? They already got paid for the season, and unless they have a bowl game clause in their NIL for more money for the extra practices and game I would doubt they would want to work for “free”, or for a pair of headphones and a sweatshirt.

KeymasterI think that’s it. Players. Might be teams feeling like they lose $ on bowls. Except their conference splits guaranteed $.
but I can’t believe teams don’t have a clause in NIL forcing guys to play bowls. I would. It’s a showcase. It’s the last image fans have of their team that year and the tone you set all off season. For usc there’s a big difference between 10-3 and 9-4.

KeymasterNotre dame turned down the pop tarts bowl. To face byu. I can understand that. Everyone knows pop tarts go in a toaster and on a plate not in a bowl

KeymasterBig 12 is embarrassed and pissed. They fined ksu and Iowa state $500k each
imo if you do not play in a bowl your team should not be eligible for the conference revenue sharing from bowls.
so let’s say the b12 teams get $2mil each from their share of all the bowls the conference participating? Including the playoff? I say if your team isn’t willing to do its share or play in its bowl. You get nothing and the other teams split your share.
ridiculous that these teams get to pocket millions and only get fined $500k. They’re still making $$
not sure if the conference also fined Baylor and kansas. They were asked after the first round of teams failed. And they too declined. I think they are 5-7 teams. Maybe ucla would like to go.

ParticipantGuys going pro, not playing,
guys going into portal, not playing,
fans not wanting to go if teams are missing a lot of guys.
College has to buy tickets not sold. That could get expensive.-

KeymasterAnd if you have to share the TV or Bowl revenue with your conference, then suddenly you’re getting by on 1/15 or whatever of the budget. Socialism doesn’t work. This is an example of it. They decide to sit at home and collect the shares of the teams in the conference who are working/playing.
