Much like society at large,  this board is a reflection of the members. Also like society, some folks here  look for others to post ( lead) and then jump in to attack in an ambush style. Few look to contribute because that requires work and risk. The board is in a transition and more than a few  of the past contributors have died or just decided to portal for whatever reason. Unfortunately some were valuable contributors. We need new blood, new takes, original thoughts. Yep, immigration from other boards is what we need to raise the level of dialogue. Isolationism never works, diversity in thought makes everything better, except for those that are entrenched and intolerant in their ways. Those that failed at life and like to blame others for their lot in life

Java is a lightning rod for criticism because he is the board owner. Ask not what the board can do for you but what you can do for the board.

Bruddah Java, I think Fraud is jealous because your vacation thread has generated Mucho response vs his treads which hardly get serious interest from the key WW board members.  Hell, your vacation to NZ has sparked my interest to visit NZ and other countries.  New Zealand is a beautiful country.  We appreciate you sharing your vacation at your WW board.  1-10, your NZ vacation thread is a 10+, a Big Shaka.

Places I would love to visit:  Europe, Japan, Australia, Canada, Tahiti, Bali, and New Zealand…  Cheers

Japan and Tahiti are definitely top 5 visits.    And it’s been fun telling someone.  Wife has struggled and now I feel guilty having brought her.  So this helps tell someone.  The kids don’t care lol

 

travel tip.  Never let an Indian.  With the dot.  Not the feather.  Cook you a steak.  They’ll screw it up all while promising you everything will be great and they’ll provide excellent  customer service   Then forget what they just promised you  like your steak knife and dinner rolls   lol

 

anyway  the NZ pronunciations still crack me up.  Fit is feet.  They don’t say pieces.  They say bits  and it’s beeets here is heeeeeya   Advice is adveeese   They stretch out every I and e into eeeeee  I’m Eating bacon and eeeeeeeggs right now

every time they say something you pause   Think in your head  and then figure you got 80% of it then respond   Most of the time it works out   Problem is when they have double accents   A Filipino   Singapore Chinese or Indian working here with their accent and the Nz accent?  Forget it  and there are a lot of Indians and Asians here   They seem to be all the service workers where we might have Hispanic people largely

NZ has 300 glaciers.  About to go up on a helicopter and walk around one.  They call them the southern alps.

oh here’s a laugh.  Yesterday I’m wandering around frustrated a bit.  I’m like man. This is summer?   What the heck?  Like I keep going further south here and it’s getting colder not warmer.  What is going on right?  Is the weather screwed  up?

 

no.  I am. Because down here.  Down under.  South is further from the equator which is like going to Canada where we are hahahahaha. And all this time I’m like. Hmmmm. What up?   So yeah I’ve moved 1200 miles.  The distance from Canada to Tijuana so for sure. It’s gotten colder.  I’m also at altitude.   Anyway. My funny for the day.

and yeah. All the lakes are fed by glacier water.  So yup. Cold.  Explains the penguins.   So this is like summers in Alaska.  I’m at franz josef glacier.  Glacier moves like 3 feet a year or something in case anyone cares.  Also shrinks about 100 meters a year but about every 10 years they have a big storm and it comes back.   And I assume being this far south is why the oceans are cold

 

oh but here’s something else.  Know why those beautiful bright blue oceans exist here and in Tahiti?   I thought it was all shallow water.  The turquoise color? Nope, volcanoes, and geysers, and all that geothermal stuff produce something called silt and that washes to the ocean and into some lakes. And that silt has a tendency to sink or congregate, indeed in shallow water, but the silt is all white and reflects the sun, which is why when you look down the water looks brighter, bluer, and greener than the rest of the ocean, which is darker blue.

and yeah when the guide asked us that as a trivia question I got it wrong. I assumed it was because it was shallow water. Turns out it is shallow water, but that’s not enough. It’s the  silt
