ParticipantCommitment to USC Football comin’.
Ouch. Break ups are so hard. I always acted like a dick for a few weeks to get the girlfriend to break up first. The only one that didn’t work with was my wife, she is like an angel.
The Call:
OL Commit Fielder: “ Umm , Hello, Coach Lanning? USC offered. I gotta go there. It’s the pLAce to be.”
Lanning : “ But Drew, I thought you liked Eugene! You said rainy, gloomy weather was fine and our chicks are hot! Just think of what our degree can do for you in your career at Enterprise Car Rentals!”
Fielder : “ Coach have you seen the chicks in Souther California ? I want to own Enterprise not work there.”
Lanning: “ Wait, we can jump in the pool together, holding hands, I can light one of my Cuban cigars”
Fielder: “ Coach USC is fighting for wins not clicks. Also, Coach Lincoln Riley sends a message: Oh we comin’. Bye Coach”

ParticipantMy best friend from college, who live in El Toro, used to describe Jeremy Hogue as “280 pounds of throbbing gristle.” Fielder looks like he might earn that same description.

ParticipantJeremy Hogue, 6-4, 250 lbs (not 280 lbs) was one of SS CIF All Time OL, El Toro HS. Played for C. Bob Johnson winning 2 CIF championships. El Toro was a power back then. Jeremy was a top student athlete, high honors. I think he turned down the NFL and went on to Harvard Law School? He was All PAC OL-center.
Sadly, in 2023 Jeremy got a bad stroke which affected his ability to swallow food and drinks. His family moved him to an Arizona hospital which specialize with his problem. In one week of treatments, he was able to eat and drink without choking. But, he needs his daily treatments back home in Orange County using a special equipment-machine to help him eat and drink. Let’s all pray for his full recovery from his stroke. God Bless Jeremy Hogue… Cheers

KeymasterTwo years in a row Oregon got an early start and we walked in and said “nope I’ll take him and him and him”

LA DuckParticipantI think a lot of this has more to do with USC overpaying for So Cal recruits the past 2 years than anything else.
And Oregon saying, thanks but no thanks – we can get similar recruits for less elsewhere, and still make the playoffs.
(Fielder is a slightly different animal since I don’t believe he was offered by USC until Oregon got the verbal. Difficult to land another team’s legacy even with a winning $$$ bid.)

ParticipantI don’t think it was a huge surprise to the Ducks as his dad played at USC. Hard to beat that pull.

KeymasterWell usc has lost a few of those over the years. Nice to start holding them. Key is to keep the ducks out and send them recruiting nationally. They do anyway but usc needs to encourage Oregon to hunt Texas and sec country harder

LA DuckParticipantFunny, BB!!
Although to put it in perspective, I still sorta have to wonder how funny all of this will be in September if CLR doesn’t figure out a way to finally beat Lanning? 🙂
Ya know, four tries and 10 freakin’ years without a win vs Oregon in football is a bit crazy.
November 5, 2016. Remember it well, BB?
And that Trojan victory was against Oregon’s worst football team (4 wins in 2016) since going 3-8 in 1991.
No wonder you Trojans are so giddy about beating Oregon in something, ANYTHING in college football these days…. 😉
All in good fun, my friend!

ParticipantYep, the ducks have had our number and certainly benefitted from a heavily tilted scheduling. That is the past and the future starts now. Oregon is loaded with talent and has their top flite qb coming back for another attempt at a national championship. The last two attempts have resulted in two humiliating losses, and I for one am hoping that trend continues. LOL!
What you’re seeing going on at SC has to have you worried, as you are a very knowledgeable college football fan. You and I are looking forward to the meeting in the Old Lady in the Fall.
Always enjoy your posts my friend.

LA DuckParticipantAlways enjoy your posts as well, GT2!
And here I thought the future started for USC when CLR came over from Oklahoma???
Shoot, all this starting and stopping and re-starting again can make a quack fan queasy.
Honestly, I’m more worried if USC doesn’t at least make an attempt to be in the playoffs this season, and you can poor CLR’s a$$ (on the tarmac or wherever). THEN you’ll see this quack fan worried….lol.
What I really fear is Alabama getting fed up with DeBoer at the same point in which USC fires CLR…. 🙁
USC has ALWAYS been the sleeping giant to me. Although of late, it’s been more like the sleeping giant mess. 😉
Fight on, my good friend GT2!!

ParticipantBruddah TKSC2WN, nice dat you knew Jeremy personally. I read an article dat said Covid vaccines may cause blood clots which causes heart attacks and strokes. Since Covid vaccines came into the picture, heart attacks and storkes are on the rise. I found dat interesting.
Maybe Dr SC can chime in on dis controversial subject… Cheers
