Matt Campbell to State Penn

Contract is being finalized. Not the cleanest coaching search..DeBoer, Kiffin, Riley with Alum Lynn, all hires that would create buzz and sell seats. Campbell is a good get considering how messy things got in that coaching search but maybe not a guy ev3n on their list In September.

Agree. Hes not incompetent. Hes a solid hire. Maybe great.
I mean ISU isn’t the easiest assignment.

I can tell you psu fans ain’t thrilled and ISU fans aren’t crying their eyes out. I mean if you can’t trust fair weather fans then who can you trust.

Matt Campbell with David Montgomery, Breece Hall, Brock Purdy, Mike Rose and some good TEs was a tough out. Ask Oregon in Fiesta Bowl. To me he has an eye for talent and plays tough hard nose football.

Have to assume recruiting PSU will be a lot easier than Ames.

As embarrassed as PSU has been and name tarnished this fan base was Donzo with Franklin. They say Franklin is a Buffoon and media just covers for him for some reason. Based on Darnold rose bowl and last years game, I would agree with the fan base.

This coach firing, hiring process and leaked audio tells alot about this place. Also shows how badly they botched the Paterno/sandusky story. A lot of dumb folks over there apparently

It will be interesting to see how Campbell does. Of course the same can be said with any new coach in these coaching carousels, but Campbell was on UW’s list after the 2021 season. Jeff Tedford (long time friend of Chris Petersen and on UW’s staff in 2016) discussed his recommendation to the UW AD, so they quickly targeted and moved on with DeBoer.

From what I’ve read about him is he is a dinosaur.  Still trying to do things at Iowa State the way things were a decade or more ago.

He ain’t gonna last long in the B1G in 2026 with that mentality….lol

I think Penn St, got a solid HC.  C. Campbell had only average, 3* type players and yet Iowa St always had a winning record in the Big 12.  He is a D type coach.  At Penn St he will get way better players, 5* to 4*.  He has to hire a top 10 OC.  I like the hire, Penn St will be a top 8 FB program under C. Campbell…  Cheers
