Based on the complaints about USC physicality at his end Riley’s beginning I think the problem was both lines. Still is but I think they were soft and bad. And now they are above average to good depending on the game.

One other problem come to think of it.  Look at those names.  True frosh.  Then first game of year hurt.  So another true frosh   Then couple games into his soph year.   Another true frosh

Darnold kinda screwed them leaving when he did.    And then starting 3 true frosh in a row is just a disaster.   No one is going to win big with a true frosh and usc trotted out 3 in a row at the most important position. On the field.  If they were in the b10 then they’d have been 3-9 every year

A few tough losses that year for the team.

Sam started two years. Some start 3. Very few do 4.
He was drafted #3 and when your that regarded the thinking is you gotta go. Pre NIL too.

2018 team lost Darnold and RoJo. Thats a ton of offense.

with Sam they prob win a 3/4 more games minimum. JT was a FR and not that talented

Clem said that Hugs coached Sam not to scramble and was one of the reasons he left.
