Oregon’s #1 RB Jordon Davison is very likely out for the rest of the playoffs with a broken collarbone.  The true freshman led the team in rushing TDs.

What adds to the misery is that Oregon has also lost 3 back-up RBs to to the transfer portal, and are unavailable for the game on Friday and for the championship should my quacks beat Indiana (which now looks even less likely than before).

More than ever before, the teams that win the championship will have survived the injury bugs and the depth concerns of a 3-4 game playoff run – which is even more of an issue nowadays with the transfer portal opening up during the playoffs.  Hope that gets fixed in the next year or so.  It doesn’t make a lot of sense to allow kids to transfer out in the middle of the playoffs….

Gotta wonder why Limar is leaving knowing Davidson is out.  Plus Limar played in previous playoff games.   Cant he wait a couple of weeks?

Hah, I remember you guys were ragging me about Jordon Davinson when he picked you guys.  I wrote you guys are getting Calif. top RB, but you guys said he’s slow, straight line runner, does not have wiggle, cutting ability.  I think Tee said he rather have the DAT type RB and I said this kid is gonna control the game, move the chains, beat up the D and get Oregon TD’s in da RZ.  He was a great RB at Mater Dei, I’ll never forget him.

I had wished he picked USC, but you guys out paid us. Sorry, he’s out of the game vs Indiana; JD would have blasted Indy’s tuff D with vengeance.  Yeah, many times winning a NC is about luck in the injury department.  Now days it’s the TP dat’s killing da college game.

So Oregon’s chance in beating Indy, QB Donte  and Wr’s had better play like the Texas Tech game.  With no Run game, it’s gonna be tuff, but QB Donte is playing lights out.  And, your strong D will have to match the TT game.  Good luck Duckies…  Cheers

I had no idea Jordon would be as good as advertised – but you certainly did, Butkus51!

Let’s just consider it a fair payback for RB Hershel Dennis from the early 2000s who was all set to sign with Oregon (where his dad wanted him to go).  But as these things always end up, it was mom who made the final decision for SC.

Oh well.  That one stung, along with Rey Maualuga who also changed his mind from Oregon and went to SC instead.  Some old wounds never heal apparently….lol

LA, you didn’t mention D’Anthony Thomas, a big get for Oregon and a player SC was sure they would get.  LOL!

Good point about D’Anthony Thomas. Seems like our football programs have had a few RB recruits go both ways over the years, including transfer Travis Dye.

Saladin McCullough was another USC RB recruit that I believe originally committed to USC but then Oregon landed at the last second.

No, Saladin McCullough went to SC and he was a bust as I recall.  His 100m time was like 10 flat, but that didn’t translate to FB success.  LOL!

Bruddah GTrojan, No you are thinking Sultan McCullough, Muir HS who played at USC (98-2002).  Sultan was the younger brother of Saladin Muir HS, who went to Oregon for 2 years (96 & 97).  Saladin played JC FB (94-95).

Sultan 100 m time, 10.3 HS, 20.7 200 m, HS, 10.15 at USC track team, 20.5 200 m.  Saladin 100 m 10.5 HS.  But, Saladin was the better, natural RB more like DAT mode.  Sultan track speed did not translate onto the FB field and his style of running, one cut, headed to EZ which was good, but he was not a hard runner.  Then we got Justin Fargas, Notre Dame HS, transfer from Michigan, 2000.  Justin was a hard runner and fast 10.5 100 m.  We had 2 very good RB’s in the backfield 2000 & 01.

In 1998 CIF State track meet, Sultan, a senior was da favorite, but got hurt in the semi finals and did not run in the finals.  Justin Fargas a senior won the meet at 10.5 and Darrel Rideaux, a junior, Long Beach Poly and USC DB came in 2nd in a photo finish 10.5.  Shoot Calif had super fast FB players back in those days.  Oh, in the same time period there was Kareem Kelly, Long Beach Poly was a 10.6 100 m and CIF State champ in the 200 m = 20.8

Yeah, but Sultan would have won both the 100 m and 200 m if he did not get injured.  So the champs, Justin Fargas, 100 m and Kareem Kelly, 200 m are in the record books as champs.  But, the fastest sprinter in the 100 m and 200 m was Sultan McCullough.  Cheers

PS.  Darrel Rideaux, next year, as a senior won the CIF state track championships 100 m at 10.4

Great history Butkus.  It’s always enlightening to read your posts.  Thanks.

Bruddah LA Duck, you’re right you guys got Saladin McCullough.  Sultan, younger brother by 4 years played at USC.  Man, I remember Saladin in HS (Muir HS) man he had moves like no other, shifty and fast.  Great RB.  USC went hard for him.  Sultan, bigger was good and faster but did not have the moves like his older brother Saladin…  Cheers

I remember all of that Butkus.  I never had seen the kid play live so I was hopeful you were spot on.   There was a lot of shade thrown at him from a number of posters.    He’s been remarkable and only gotten better as the year went on.

tough loss for the ducks.   I’m Still optimistic.

Yeah. I said I wasn’t impressed with Davison upon watching him play a game in. HS.  I was wrong there.   But as it turns out the Dude couldn’t even last a full season and has flamed out with his injury costing the Ducks when they needed him the most.    Perhaps if had spent more time working out he wouldn’t have snapped his collarbone on one little hit.   That’s why I like the scat backs.    The big backs just try and bully there way through multiple players.  And you now see what happened.   Next.
