Does Lincoln work for Chad?  Chad is GM of the program.

we see coaches leave. Like kiffin.  And take their personnel man. Their bag man with them.  I think that’s how Bowden got to ND.   Came with freeman.

I’m wondering if Riley left or was fired.  If Chad would be separately handling recruits f and other admin tasks of the program.  This is how I see it and how I think ASU predicted college football would evolve back when we were all laughing at germ “I never met a rule I couldn’t ignore” Edwards.

I picture head coaches being less important to anything other than coaching.  No more recruiting. No more $$$ deals.  No more parent management.   No more admin. Shoot. No more strength and conditioning.  I think the universities mostly are on their way to their own s and c programs Independent of football coaches.  And same with the admin stuff

nfl kind of is that way.  In many cases the head football coaches is a minor part of the organization.  Baseball has definitely become that way.  IMO it keeps managers salaries down.  At one point we saw guys like Joe torre command huge contracts.  No more.  I think the dodgers feel they could replace Dave Roberts easily. Right or wrong.

haven’t seen it yet in cfb as we still see massive $$ thrown at Sitake.  Cignetti.  Kiffin.  Despite all I wrote.  But I have to believe that’s where we are headed.  That programs will try to be bigger than their coaches.   Ohio state and Michigan are already there.  Doesn’t really matter who they hire.  Southern programs tend to me more at the mercy of one man

curious what you think.  Does Bowden work for Riley?   I doubt Bowden can fire Riley.  But if Lincoln leaves I’m not sure Chad does

This is my limited understanding of both roles and position in da FB program chain of command. Both guys work under AD Cohen. Both C.LR and Bowden in recruiting must agree on players and offers. But, C.LR has more power in the FB program. A big indicator is their pay scale, C.LR $10 M vs GM Bowden $1 M

For me, a GM is very important role in da FB program. GM’s relieves the headaches of recruiting for coaches. But, HC and AC must recruit too. We got an Xlent GM in Chad Bowden and his staff. Another year of top 5 recruiting should put USC back on the map for CFP.

      #1 AD Cohen

#2. C.LR has full control of the team, practices, game planning, player evaluation, recruiting, player development,

#3. GM Bowden role is on da business side. NIL, USC direct payments to players, recruiting, player’s grades, class attendance, player conduct, players contracts, scholarships…

Yeah but think this.  You think CLr can fire Bowden?  I’m not sure.

and if CLr is fired is Bowden fired?   I’m not sure.

and if CLR leaves dan he take Bowden with him?  Might try but I’m thinking depending on the school the GM might be more attached to the school than the coach

The only reason 162 is still here is because of his contract, and he knows it.  He works for Big Jen and her henchman Bowden. sc

I don’t think Bowden can fire Riley.

I am not really interested in the possibility.    It’s not going to happen.

But I am wondering more because of that model ASU laid out years ago that seems to be happening.

So if GM’s are now negotiated deals and recruiting.  They are essentially the player personnel department.  Not sure who is raising the money and how donors and collectives fit it.  Different post.

So the way the GM position is set up it appears to be very different than what is happening on the field.    So yeah, I guess it comes back to your point.  Let’s fast forward a few years.  Riley is now finishing year 8.  They owe him $20 million and we learn in this modern world of football that you have to make a good faith effort to get another job.  Salaries have gone up.    Let’s say going rate is $15 million a year and Lincoln is making $10.  Let’s say Lincoln through the grapevine knows he can get a job for $8 mill.  Instead of owing him $20 million, USC will owe him $4 million and they toss him.

Who makes that decision?  And when he leaves is Bowden’s loyalty to him?  No one is getting fired here but I am curious who works for who?

Oh, and what if Bowden brings in top 10 classes.  But then half of them all portal out in a year or two?  Is that the fault of the NIL guy who didn’t keep people happy or is that the coach who didn’t  win enough or give enough playing time?
