Participant2025, CIF Regional FB State Championship Bowl Games.
https://www.cifstate.org/sports/football/2025_reg_fb
Check dis out, freaken NS CIF is at it again. The NS CIF are so full of sheet with their State Championship bowl games selections.
Folsom is D-1 in Sacramento CIF are placed in the D-2 State game.
Pittsburg is D-1, NS CIF are placed in the D-3 State game. They loss to De La Salle in the D-1 NS CIF Championship game.
Serra-San Mateo, D-1 NS CIF are placed in the D-4 State game.
It is unfair to our top SS CIF teams dat do not play in bowl games after being eliminated in the playoff games. Look at our highly ranked SS CIF teams dat are not going to the State Championship tournament, bowl games. Centennial-Corona, Mater Dei, St John Bosco, Mission Viejo, Sierra Canyon, OLu, Servite, San Clemente, Edison-Huntington Beach, Mission Hills-San Marcos, Carlsbad, La Costa Canyon, Murrietta Valley, Chaparral, Lincon-San Diego
Here is what the top 5 division State Chamipionship Bowl games should be, according to state rankings.
Open, Santa Margarita vs De La Salle. OK dis is correct.
D-2. Folsom vs Centennial
D-3 Pittsburg vs Mater Dei
D-4 Serra-San Mateo vs St John Bosco
D-5 Danville vs Sierra Canyon

KeymasterBunch of schools and little formed I’ve never heard of. Man what a big tournament.
yay for Barstow! Not only does our area have a cif champ now we have a section winner and they’ll play for the state championship. This was the biggest thing in Barstow in quite a number of years. Think “best of times “ starring Robin Williams and Kurt Russell. Which was actually about two real schools btw. In the valley I grew up .

ParticipantYeah, good stuff for Barstow. It’s a growing community so the new, upcoming demographics helps their FB program. Plus, Barstow HS get talented kids from Fort Irwin, Marine base. Barstow (W) vs Apple Valley last week, 10-7. Granite Hills, Apple Valley plays, vs. Pacifica, Oxnard tonight, D-3.
Hawaii is da same thing, Leilehua HS has Schofield Army base, Radford HS has Pearl Harbor Navy base + Hickam Air Force base, Castle HS, has the Kaneohe Marines base. These 3 HS produced very good FB teams due to getting military kids… Cheers

KeymasterNever thought about Barstow HS getting Military kids. Marine Core Logistics Base is out there too. Fort Irwin is a long way but I don’t think there’s a HS out there.
Barstow is such a dead dreary town.
I did realize THAT Granite Hills is the one that’s playing. No one up here pays any attention to them. I assumed it was a different Granite. Up here, Apple, Oak Hills Serrano usually get all the attention. And then occasionally Hesperia, Sultana, Victor, Silverado can be competitive. But Granite? Yeah, good for them. I was offered the baseball coaching job there when their coach got in trouble. But he was a friend of mine and I thought the stuff they were running him off for was BS. Just tough coach tough talk stuff and I thought it was the snowflake patrol. I also knew and still know that I didn’t want to coach full time or have that be me. I was a VERY good coach who was a dad. But these guys make no money. There’s no future. LOT of time. And honestly, if my kids aren’t playing, what’s the point? So I ran my business, cheered for my kids and my wife’s. No regrets, I was a good coach and didn’t need the ego boost.

ParticipantCIF State Championship Bowl games and results.
Sorry for being late had things to do dis weekend after seeing the games. Got to see the top 5 Division games. I’m using the old division rankings, the new CIF rankings is too confusing for dis ole timer.
12-13-25, Saturday
Open/D-1. Santa Margarita Catholic #1 Ca, 11-3 (W) vs #4 De La Salle, 47-13. The real score should have been 49-7. SMC missed 2 TD extra points and a fumble turned into a TD for DLS. The game was over by half time with SMC way ahead 35-7. But, scores are deceiving, DLS played hard, very physical, kept fighting. DLS moved the ball on the ground, but when it got into the RZ, SMC shut them down from scoring points. The big differences were SMC team speed, A+ D and Trent Mosley.
Game stats. SMC pass 247 yds, rush 152 yds = 399 T yds
DLS, rush 122 yds, pass 44 yds = 165 T ydsHell, what more superlatives can we give Trent Mosley; he is one of the nation’s best HS FB players. DLS had no answer for Trent. He won the MVP on O = 11 rec, 185 yds, 2 TD’s, ran 4 = 25 yds, 1 TD. On a 30 yd TD pass, he caught the ball with the DB all over him for the EZ TD, but one Ref with eagle eyes called it No TD. I screamed, No Way, from my eyes it looked good. But upon TV replay, the nose of the ball barely touched the ground. Dat Ref has incredible eyes, good call.
The most amazing play of the night by Mosley; he caught a short pass on the 7 yd line, bulldozed over a 300 lb DL and carried a LB and DB into the end zone for the TD. Freaken amazing, what a display of Strength. Before the season, he made my 5* ratings for WR’s and Top 10 in nation. After the last month & last night game, he is for sure 5*, but I moved him up to Top 5 Wr in nation. And, I would bet da Farm on my ratings. We are Freaken lucky to get him. C.LR had better find ways to get him da ball and target him next 2026 season.
SMC D is A+ and underrated. They pretty much shut down DLS. Dang, LB Dash Fifita was all over da field (4 sacks). Shoot dis kid, 5-9, 190 lbs is small but very quick and Tuff son of a gun. LB Leki Holani is another animal. Dam, DL Mano Faupusa, 6-3, 350 lbs, 3* is the anchor on da front 4. Faupusa makes my 4*. USC was recruiting him, but somehow GM Bowden missed him, Zona is getting dis Monster DL.
QB Trace Johnson was a Big Key to SMC success dis season. Rated as only a 3* QB, he’s going to Tulane, La. Tulane is getting a fine QB. Johnson transferred to SMC for 2025 and his Sr season from Florida. He had 6,700 passing yds and 65 TD’s in Florida. Dis Sr season at SMC pass 3,025 yds, 25 TD’s for a total of 9,725 passing yds & 90 TD’s. I rate him as A+ field general with a 7.5 arm, he’s very accurate but lack top arm strength. Throws a tight spiral and nice, catch able ball. His dad, Doug Johnson is a former NFL QB.
Oh, forgot someone, Fr RB Adrian Petero, 5-5, 170 lbs, man dis kid was running over DLS D players all night, took several players bring him down. Impressive running, he runs like he’s 5-10, 210 lbs and a Sr RB. SMC got a dam good RB.
Note. The Great Coach Harry Welch is a consultant to SMC and HC Carson Palmer. C. Palmer said dat C. Welch was instrumental to SMC success dis year. He gave C.Welch his utmost attention, learning many things from the Hall of Fame Coach… Cheers

KeymasterIs harry Welch the former coach who retired and is now the ad?
yeah the qb I was iffy on. He is not especially mobile and doesn’t make great running decisions but he’s functional. How interesting that he came all the way across the country. I didn’t realize SM was playing that game too. I suppose they all are. I wonder whatever happened to servite and bishop Amat. They used to be there too. Guess all the money moved south.

ParticipantD-2. Folsom #7 Ca, 13-1 (W) vs Cathedral Catholic, San Diego, #10 Ca, 11-2, 42-28. Both teams are D-1 in their respected sections. Heavy fog and bad visibility. Folsom QB!, 5* Ryder Lyons did not play due to injury. QB2 Brody, Rudnicki, Jr played instead and did very well. His stats: 310 T yds, ran for 4 TD’s, pass 2 TD’s.
Cathedral Catholic, 5* DB/RB/Athlete, HE Johnson rushed 16-180 yds, 2 TD’s. Dis kid is a special player; he is a big lean for USC. Shoot, we got to land this top FB player.
It was kinda over by half time, Folsom leading 28-7. But, Cathedral came roaring back into the 4th qt, cutting Folsom’s lead 35-28. Dis was a hard hitting game. Hats off to both teams. Dam, both teams had big boys. Cathedral fought back like heck and should hold their heads up high. Guaranty, Folsom has great respect for CC FB team.
D-3. Central East-Fresno, #14 Ca, 13-1 (W) vs Pacific-Oxnard, #12 Ca, 15-1, 42-28. Wow, dis was an Offensive shootout. I enjoyed dis game very much. Mucho passing and hard running. Very impressed with these 2 schools. They are pretty big, very good team speed. Both teams have very good QB’s and RB’s. Heck, these boys are College D-1 talent.
Central East, QB J. Dippel 25-32, 370 yds, 2 TD’s, ran for 50 yds, 1 TD, RB B Smith ran 144 yds, 3 TD’s.
Pacifica, QB Taylor Lee, 21-31, 317 yds, 2 TD’s, RB Isaiah Phelps, 138 yds, 2 TD’s
D-4. St. Mary, Stockton #25 Ca, 12-2 (W) vs Bakersfield Christian, #35, 13-1, 27-24. Xlent game. Both teams are D-1 in their respected region. Both teams have very good QB’s & RB’s: St Mary-QB Galvan, RB Alexander. BC-QB Adame, RB A. Lee. I was impressed with these 4 players. Both teams had Big Boys. Shoot who said Calif does not have big OL and DL, so Not True. I enjoyed these 2 VG teams go at each other, to me both are Champions.
D-5. Sonora #42 Ca-Tuolumne County, foothills, Hwy 49, 15-0 (W) vs Rio Hondo Prep-Arcadia, #52 Ca, 15-1, 35-10 Missed most of the game.
D-6. St Ignatius College Prep-San Francisco, #76 Ca, 10-6 (W) vs Ventura, #101 Ca, 12-3, 42-35 Offensive shootout, lots of passing. Enjoyed the game very much. I like high scoring games.
Summary, the top 6 games record: North 5 and South 1 1st time in 20 yrs, the North dominated the top 6 bowl games.

KeymasterCrazy to see where the power has shifted in Fresno high schools. When I was growing up it was Bullard. Hoover. And when the black kids could get a good coach. Edison. Edison was like Dorsey or one of those south central la schools
then in high school and after everything was Clovis. Then Clovis added more high schools. Suddenly Clovis west. Clovis east. Buchanan. I’d never heard of half of them. Clovis sent guys to usc like Paul green and Brandon Hancock.
then this central stuff comes along. Central hs was always this old black and orange school. The bears I think. Boring. Farm town and area. All of a sudden they’re a power. Winning. And even weirder now there are other high schools. Central east and this and that. I’m like what??? They were always an afterthought. Now they’re good? And more of them? Turns out Fresno moved that direction and all that farmland because where new wealthy houses went
central became the hot area. Lot of money and now great sports teams. All used to be empty fields to me. Crazy. I been away a long time. Funny fact w Fresno. The town is served by 3 school districts. Like half of the Clovis schools are in Fresno. And the central schools are in Fresno. But Fresno unified isn’t their district like it is for the other 6-7 hs. Shoot there’s another school called Washington Union. Great basketball. It’s where the black kids go when season sucks. Not sure exactly where that is. But that would be a 4th school district service Fresno. Word layouts and town that way

ParticipantBruddah Java, yeah Central East is a power in Fresno. They loss a (close game) last year to Edison HS, Huntington Beach in a great FB game. I was impressed with them last year. They are ranked #12 in Calif, CIF rankings. Shoot, Fresno HS have hard hitting teams. They were always physical teams. Many top players came from Fresno HS. (Edison, Buchanan, all the Clovis HS’s). USC got a lot of AA from Fresno.
I forgot to mentioned these very good players for Central East and Pacifica.
Central East.
3* Wr, Byon Harris, Jr, #18, 6-4, 195 lbs. His game stats, 11 rec, 175 yds, 1 TD. Man, dis kid is 4* all da way. He’s fast, looks like 10.9 100 m, dat’s fast for someone his size. He was a force. Top 3 Wr in the CIF Championship games. USC had better look into dis kid for 2027, cause I think he would fit well in C. LR O. Very impressive player. Wr Kevin Cook, Soph, #13, 6-0, 170 lbs, 3 rec, 60 yds, 1 TD. Dis kid is very fast, looks like 10.7 100 m. Don’t know his ratings, but he makes my 3* and could play in a lower D-1 school.
Pacifica.
3*, Wr, A. Ryster, Jr, #2, 5-9, 150 lbs, game stats, 6 rec, 115 yds, 1 TD. 3* Wr, T. Stewart, Sr, #15, 6-0, 175 lbs, 7 rec, 100 yds, 1 TD, Wr, A. Jacob, Jr., #1, 5-11, 160 lbs, 3 rec, 75 yds. These 3 fine Wr’s are fast, sub 100 m guys. Again, these 3 Wr’s could play at a lower D-1 school.
PS. I listed their jersey # because thru out the game, their jersey # appeared Mucho times.

ParticipantC. Harry Welch coached at Canyon Country, turning CC into a national FB powerhouse, for many years winning 7 SS CIF D-1 and one State D-1 titles. Then, moved to Orange County, coaching little St Margaret HS to 2 CIF D-10 State titles and then to Santa Margarita Catholic, winning one D-1 State title. He is the only CIF coach to have won 4 CIF State titles at 3 different HS schools. C. Welch is not SMC AD, but a FB consultant.
I am proud to say he is my friend and wonderful human being (devout Catholic)… Cheers
Note. When Canyon Country won their 1st 6 SS CIF titles, 1983 to 2005, the CIF had no State Championships. In 2006, CIF started the FB State bowl games. Canyon Country was the 2006 SS CIF champ, went on to beat De La Salle in the State Championship game. Guaranty Canyon would have won multiple State Championships between 1983 to 2005 beating De La Salle.
PS. From 1994 to 2001 (8 years), C. Welch did not coach at Canyon Country for personal reasons. Imagine how many more SS CIF titles he would have won at Canyon Country in those 8 lost years…

ParticipantC. Welch retired after being diagnosis with stage 7 prostate cancer 2012. Cancer forced him to retire only 3 years at SMC and to enjoy his Golden years.
PS. It was stated here dat Indy FB, C. Cignetti hardly has hard practices to avoid injuries and tired legs. Hell, dat was not C. Welch belief. He was the complete opposite and worked his boys/teams extremely hard. I saw how Canyon Country FB team worked out, man it was not for the faint hearted. Summer 3 a days in hot Canyon Country. Some parents did not like how C. Welch worked their boys and complain to school officials.
His boys were probably the most well FB conditioned team in the country. I would put De La Salle up there as well… Cheers
