Thanxs for additional story about Russ and flying days. Shoot, forgot his first NFL team was the New England Patriots and then to San Francisco. Learned after his playing days, he went back to Hawaii and became a TV sports anchor for one of the stations. He loved Hawaii. I wonder how he ended up in up state, New York? Dang, it gets cold there during the winter… Cheers
He was a good guy. Went to see the State Championship baketball playoffs. Kailua vs Hilo HS basketball game. A small Filipino, Hilo guard (5’8″) drove the basket, then Russ gave the guard a hard block, sending the player crashing onto the floor. Russ rushed over to pick him up and kept saying I’m sorry; Russ looked shooked up. I said, what a good guy Russ Francis.
PS. His family spread his ashes in the waters off Kailua.
