Yeah I actually took flying lessons. Funny you mention. About 2010 or 2011.
my instructor was happy as a pig in slop to collect his $105 per lesson.
after maybe 6-7 of them I flew solo. Might have been more like 10-15. I don’t remember. I had 30 hours
anyway here’s what was funny. After I took off. And didn’t die. And landed. And didn’t die. And flew around up there a bit? I was like I think I’m done. I’m happy.
right about then the instructor opens up the manual. The stuff you have to learn to pass your various tests. It looked like a physics book. Geometry. Air pressure. Lift. Wind speed. Knots. Who the hell measure stuff in knots? Oh and true north vs magnetic north. Bullocks to all that
I told my instructor I was done. I took off. I landed. I didn’t die. On to the next adventure. Rappelling I believe it was. Man was he pissed. lol
and while this was not the “reason” I quit my ex and her lawyer were in court telling the judge I had a death wish and was trying to get myself killed to screw her out of her just due. I said now that’s an excellent idea and I would laugh from the grave but I love myself too much to say goodbye now.
so shutting them up about buying her a life insurance policy or setting aside $$ in case I fell out of the sky was a happy by product of me quitting.
right around that time I did do some rappelling. Snowboarding and wakeboarding. Can’t say I was great at any of them but I did all of them at least half a dozen times.
