ParticipantDam had my left upper side, last molar #15 and wisdom tooth #16 removed. The WT had impacted the molar, which cause a slight infection and bone loss. When the outside, independent Oral Surgeon looked over my head shot X-ray, he said #15 & #16 had to be removed. Plus, I needed a bone graft and tissue repair. So, I said what’s the cost, he said maybe $800, but was not sure. Like all dental office, a front desk girl comes into my room with the estimated bill. She goes over the bill and it came to $1,498 with my dental insurance coverage (far from $800). Without dental insurance it would have been well over $4,000.
I said dam. I asked the girl to leave me the estimated bill and send over the Oral Surgeon. The OS Dr said I needed the bone graft and tissue treatment because at my age, my healing ability is pretty shaky. I said OK Doc I will listen to you. At least my dental office gave me 6 months to pay.
I asked his nurse where they travel and she said they cover 4 counties, Los Angeles, Ventura, San B and Bakersfield. They visit our D office once a month. Dang, my mind started to race with his billing and income. I’m thinking he must make $700 K to $900 K after paying his nurse and all the D office taking a cut of his billings. Man dat’s a nice annual income and he looked maybe 35 to 37 yrs old, young guy. And, I thought he was very good OS too.
Dam, I was really sore and swollen yesterday, but taking Ibuprofen helped a lot + antibiotics and a mouth rinse (for 7 days) to speed up the healing process. I had to change the gauze like 4 times yesterday and twice dis morning. Looks like the blood clot developed nicely, the gauze is pink today. Just ate soup and crackers last night. Dis morning had my fruit and oat meal for breakfast. I’m not too bad today, but my cheek is still swollen and tender. Not fun having oral surgery… Cheers

KeymasterI am sorry to hear that but glad you invested in an implant or keeping your teeth. People who opt for dentures flabbergast me.

ParticipantNo Bruddah Java, I had the molar and wisdom tooth removed. No dental implant. Da OS Dr said I needed a bone graft and gum tissue repair which was the bulk of the bill. 2 teeth removal = $250. Bone graft and tissue repair = $1,248. And, my bill was cover by my dental plan. Without insurance, my bill was gonna be over $4,000. Thank God for dental insurance… Cheers

Saw my little bro get a filling once and there was literally smoke coming out of his mouth. F that. Not for me. it’s not complicated. if god didn’t want you to have wisdom teeth you wouldn’t have them. mine work fine. dental disease will kill you. really. where do you think those plagues in your coronaries and carotids come from? sc

ParticipantDoc as an MD, I’m surprise by your reply. You’re implying because I had this dental procedure, I did not take proper oral hygiene care? Wrong my friend, like most people I brush 2 times a day, and floss & rinse with water after every meal. Plus, rinse with Crest Advance, Pro Health mouth wash with my bedtime brush. I get my dental cleaning 2 times a year.
According to da Oral Surgeon, Wisdom teeth impacting molars is very common. And, if not caught by X-rays, over time it gets infected and must be removed. Dis was my case. Dentist in practice do not like touching or removing wisdom teeth, unless it’s necessary. I’m 86 yrs of age, in my late 60’s had my 2 bottom wisdom teethes extracted, my dentist could see it getting too close to the molars. We’ve been with this dental group for only 2 years. Unfortunately, this upper molar and WT was not caught by my previous dentist. Oh, and I’ve had maybe 14-15 different dentist over my life time. Many I did not like and the ones I liked retired.
I googled search, see below for how common WT impacting molars. Apparently, 70% to 90% of adults experience dis problem. I’m estimating you’re around 65+ in age, you’re very lucky if you have not had your wisdom teeth extracted by an oral surgeon.

ParticipantThanxs Bruddah Balls for the nice sentiments and kind words. I appreciate your friendship a lot.
Yep, I’m am blessed with good family genes, my wife side too. But, we exercise almost everyday and we do a lot of things with the house. I do our yard work weekly, help clean house, do laundry, handy work. Our diet is good, lots of fresh foods, high fiber, small portions, no 2nd helpings. NO sugar, sweets, soft drinks. We drink wine & beer, me-Kentucky bourbon only, wife-Tequila in moderation and mucho spring water.
We socialize by visiting our daughter (she, husband plays tennis, so we play dbls), visit good friends and mingle with church members at church functions. We uphold good Christian values of love, peace, and good will towards people and life in general. We say prayers 2 times a day. We have a nice balance by keeping active, socializing and strong faith in da Holy Trinity and Mother Mary.
Alright Bruddah good talking to you. God bless you and your family… Cheers

Participantlol, dude teeth problems are capable of some of the most intense pain ever. I’m on a regular every six month visit to the dentist to avoid problems and I still get nervous the night before. But then I’m a wimp for pain too. I’m grateful for the great health I have been blessed with,

Old PuebloParticipantBest wishes to you B51. I had all 4 wisdom teeth extracted when I was 18. Country dentist. Impaction. Under local anesthesia. So i heard every tooth cracked out of my skull. On codine and puking blood for 3 days. My grandpa insisted on it because he lost all his teeth in the navy during the war. I’m grateful for it but i wouldn’t wish that hell on anyone.

ParticipantDang Bruddah Old Pueblo, dat must have hurt like a Mofo. Shoot, we’re fortunate living in America, we have top dentist for good oral health care. But, sadly many Americans still do not have dental insurance and do not see a dentist for a good cleaning and for big problems. I read in 3rd world countries, many people die from gum disease and infected teeth. I feel sorry for these people. Yeah, teeth and gum problems can be very painful and fatal… Good talking to you Bruddah… Cheers

ParticipantAbsolutely. The teeth, jaw are very close to the brain and the infection can travel if left untreated. One of the most common causes of death in ancient times.

ParticipantOh, forgot to mention a very important thing the OS told me. Dentist really do not like touching or removing the 2 upper wisdom teethes because they are connected to our sinus system. With my WT issues which had to be removed, my OS had to carefully patch and secure the voided area of the WT to not damage my sinus system.
He told me to be very aware of any sinus issues in next 2 weeks. So far, no problems (crossing my fingers). The lower jaw 2 WT do not present this type of problems. So to all of you, if your sinus acts up, go see your dentist, it could be due to an infection to your 2 upper WT. Funny how our bodies work and are inter connected. No wonder Dr’s, Dentist, Oral Surgeons make da big bucks. And, they had to go so many years of schooling and training. God Bless our medical professionals.
