Wow, a sea of red. Impressive showing by the Hoosiers. Duck fans were saving their pennies for the final. These trips get pricey.

The Duck fanbase is small compared to most.
and yes.  The cost to Miami for Tech game.  Then to Atlanta.  Then back to Miami if they won.
games at the RB and Fiesta Bowl would be a different story.   Then add in the cost for Xmas.

Another new problem. Most fans can only afford to go to one postseason game. Especially if it is a ‘been there, done that’. But for the amount of Indiana fans, this is unprecedented and cannot be missed.

        In all fairness….consider:

        U of Indiana-Bloomington has 43,500 enrollment,

Bloomington, Indiana is 516 miles and in the same EST time zone as Atlanta.

University of Oregon-Eugene has 22,298 enrollment

Eugene, Oregon is  2,615 miles and 3 time zones away from Atlanta.

The majority of fans that attend the bowl games are not students. And adding a couple of hours onto the travel time is not significant in the total amount of time spent at the postseason event. Duck fans went bonkers and sold their allotment for the Independence Bowl, in the late 80’s sometime, when they finally made a bowl game for the 1st time in decades. It was new to them.

Dang, seeing a sea of Red had to greatly effected Oregon players.  A stadium & atmosphere of 95% opposition fans would kill any team fighting spirit.  Like others have posted, when there are 4 rds of FB, it’s impossible to have loyal fans attend all 4 rds.  The cost is too much.  Yeah, this is another example how the CFP is a very difficult tournament…  Cheers

To be fair to Oregon fans, there are only like 5 flights a day out of Eugene, so it’s pretty tough to get away for the weekend.

Agreed – very bad showing by Oregon fans, but somewhat understandable due to the # of playoff games and the distance.

Ducks used to be known as a team that would show up en masse for bowl games.

You see, after decades of no bowls, we quacks were more than happy to travel to places like Shreveport to attend even minor bowl games.  But now, tied to Oregon’s unprecedented relative success of the past 15-20 year or so, I think most quack fans have bowl-fatigue at this point, especially for potentially 3 straight playoff games all in Florida/Georgia.

Duck fans, and I think most west coast fans in general, don’t travel to bowl games as well as their midwest and southeast peers.  This is the first season I’ve missed going to a BCS-bowl or playoff/championship bowl game to see my quacks play in person.  If Oregon somehow does make it to the championship in 2027, I do plan to be in Vegas next year, however. 🙂

Eh Duckies, just thought something.  Heck, Uncle Phil must know this about the Oregon fans not traveling well (cost, etc).  Since he is buying players, he should subsidize fans travel cost (a 50%, reimbursement plan).  I googled average, Total Cost for a couple, one night hotel, 2 days (2 people) attend a CFP game (cheapest tickets, airfare, hotel, food, parking/ground transportation, etc) = $12K to $16K.  Tickets are da biggest cost, with each Rd going up in prices: ranging $2.5 K to $20K, wow…

        1.  One plan, Uncle Phil reimburse fans traveling cost, tickets, airfare, hotel, food, tickets by 50%.  Fans mail in copy of their receipts and Uncle Phil accounting CFP dept audits the receipts and reimburse them 50%.

        2.  2nd plan, Uncle Phil reimburse fans a dollar amount, one check for maybe like $8K for a couple or $4K for each person for each Rd.

If he does not do this, Oregon will have a hard time winning a NC due to lack of fans support thru out the 4 rds of CFP.  Like someone said, in general the PAC 12 fan base do not travel well for FB in the CFP games.  Heck can’t blame Duck fans, the freaken cost for 4 rds makes it impossible for normal people support da FB team…  Cheers

LA Duck, that is a good point on the west coast fans not traveling well during bowl season (outside of west coast venues).  Why would we?  Hey kids, want to go to El Paso or Shreveport for the Holiday trip this year instead of skiing or Maui?
