Curious why you like Texas Tech big, Old Pueblo?

Not opposed to this line of thought, especially after my quacks not being able to contain JMU’s offense at Autzen.

You are MUCH closer to the Big 12 than I am….so I totally respect your thoughts here!

All good.  By bigtime, I don’t mean tech in a blowout, just that they have been a little overlooked IMO and there’s some shock value. Ducks have backed off on O yards per play (edit:carry)and tech has a stout (edit:run)D. Very good. I also look at things like the betting splits and UO is getting the money, IMO that’s a sign to pick the dog. I always root for your webfoots so just cold numbers and  intangibles. Nothin’ personal, kid 😉

lol…no worries, OP.  I’ve been on this site waaaay too long to take much of anything too personally. 🙂

I think you hit the nail on the head:  TT indeed HAS been overlooked.  And I’m VERY interested in seeing just how good they are – especially in run defense.

Indiana held Oregon to only 81 rushing yards in their mid-season game and the worst output this season.  If something similar happens again vs TT, I don’t see any way Oregon wins this one….

That was also the 2nd worst rushing output in the Dan Lanning era at Oregon.

The worst?  Last year’s playoff game vs tOSU in the Rose Bowl where Oregon had -23 yards rushing (that’s MINUS 23 yards)…..lol…..gulp!! 🙁

Old Pueblo likes TX Tech because their defense is ridiculous. OR lost at home to IN whose defense is almost as good as TX Tech.

So all top 4 seeds advance is what you are saying?  Chalk, eh?

      A very likely outcome, Butkus.

Will be fun if there are a few upsets in there – even if those upsets don’t include my duckies!  (“Upset” being a relative term since I believe Oregon is the only non-top 4 seed currently favored by the bookies, if only by a point or so.)

As such, the bookies are predicting the closest of the 4 games to be the Orange Bowl.  Should be a good one:  Which Oregon defense shows up?  Is competition in the B12 on par with the B1G or is TT’s defense a paper tiger?  Do we get UCLA Dante or Oregon Dante?

I’d probably at least bet the under in the Oregon game (52.5) – not sold on TT’s offense but I feel their defense is for real.

I think Bama has a good chance to beat IN and no way does Ohio St put up 34 points on Miami. I agree with your TX Tech and UGA picks.

I like OR but that TX oil billionaire, Cody Campbell, bought TX  Tech the best defense in college football.

The ONLY thing that gives me any pause, ATLBRUIN, is that it was mostly the Big 12 that provided that #4 defensive ranking for TT, and a #65 strength of schedule.

Oregon has a #5 defensive ranking, but a #22 strength of schedule.  Looking at what your next head coach did to Oregon last week, it seems more like Oregon should really have a #50 defensive ranking….lol!  BTW I really LOVE the Chesney hire for you guys!!  Best UCLA hire imo since Bob Toledo 🙂

On offense, TT is #2, Oregon #13.

I am fascinated to see how this all plays out.  Two fairly even teams duking it out….likely will be a very close game.

The end result will say a lot about Lanning and his ability to coach….

Good game LAD, I overlooked the ducks D. They took it personally and mudholed tech. Well played sir. I’ll be at the holiday bowl tomorrow, send my Cats some of that energy 😀

People who have not seen Texas Tech play are gonna be surprised how good dis team is.  Big 12 awards and honors.  LB Jacob Rodrigues, D Player of the Year, David Bailey (Mater Dei HS and Stanford) DL of the Year, 5 TT players made 1st team, 3 players made 3rd team, 3 made HM.  TT is the #3 D in nation and the O is no slouch #5 in nation.  I’ve seen TT 5 times in 2 years and very impressed with their FB team.  TT is for real; their D is a Monster.

It was a toss up picking between Texas Tech and Oregon, believe me.  Oregon is a very good FB team.  #7 D and #11 O in nation.  But, I had to pick one, TT wins in a close game.

In da Semi’s Ohio St vs UGA is gonna be one hell of game.  Both teams are playing outstanding FB.  But, Ohio St will pull out a close W.  The other Semi’s will be a very good one too (Wow), Indy vs Texas Tech.  I’m going with Indy on a hard fought game.

Finals, Indiana vs Ohio St with Indy winning the NC.  I believe it’s Indiana’s destiny (in the stars) to win the NC…  Cheers

Big upset, #2, Ohio St (L) vs #10 Miami, 14-24.  Miami was da better team and out played Ohio St.  Miami OL and DL played well, they have probably the best OL unit in college.  The DL gave QB Sayin fits all night (5 sacks and many hurries).

Ohio St could not run da ball, very surprising.  They ran well all season and have 2 top RB’s and very good OL.  Credit to Miami’s D front 6.  Poor QB Sayin was rattled in the pocket, made a big mistake with a pick 6 IT.  But he passed for 287 yds and AA Wr J. Smith showed his insane talent, with 7-157 yds.  Smith will be a force in NFL.

Note:  Dang, #10 Miami barely got into the CFP.  Any type of sporting tournament is the ultimate form of competition.  Top seeds must be ready and play hard.  OK, Miami had only 4 players out and Ohio St with 6 players out, which did not affect both teams much.  Whereas USC had 12 key players out, which had a Huge impact on losing vs TCU…  Cheers

Not sure who was out for ohio state and Miami but none were opt outs.   Maybe injuries?

If you count injury usc had more than 12.  They were missing everyone across the line.  Both te.  3 of top 4 wr I think.  Waymon Jordan  both safeties.  3 DL at a minimum.  2 to injury and 1 to portal.  Not sure who else on d was missing but if graham was playing then 1 cb too.  So that’s 9-10 on offense and 6 minimum on d.   Unsure of lb.

also means they were missing 6 OL and 3 Dl in a game Miami showed how important lines are.  USC ended up looking like late helton or early Riley teams.

mostly frustrated w the lack of roster for that game honestly.  Think they need to fix that or not play a bowl

Whoa I was right 1 of 4 games, glad I do not gamble.  Shoot, Vegas got things wrong as well.  A lot of people loss money dis weekend.   My rankings for the 4 CFP bowls and quarter finals.

      1.  Sugar Bowl, Ole Miss #6 (W) vs UGA #3, 39-34.  Big upset, this game had mucho drama, lead changed several times.  Great game.

      2.  Cotton Bowl, Miami #10 (W) vs Ohio St #2, 24-14. Big upset.  And to think Miami barely got in the CFP.

      3.  Rose Bowl, Oregon #5 (W) vs Texas Tech #4, 23-0.  Texas Tech front 6 stopped Oregon’s run game, but had no answer for O passing game.  Texas Tech could not mount any O, but Oregon’s tuff D was the reason .  Wow, it’s gonna be a war in the semi’s Oregon vs Indy.

      4.  Indiana #1 (W) vs Bama #9, 38-3.  Bama got embarrass. I like C. Deborer, but he has struggled at Bama.  Fans can’t be happy.

Oh I thought we both went 2-2.  I picked 3 b10 teams and Georgia.

I find it interesting that bama won their rematch w ok.  Miss won their rematch w Georgia

        annnnnnnd

the top 4 seeds the last two years are 1-7.  Now are we that far off in seeding?  I don’t think so.

does the week off hurt a team for a half or so?   Could be.

I think the bigger issue is that the seeding reflects a team’s year.   The results reflect who is healthy.  Has their staff together.  And is playing well NOW.  Much like the ncaa tournament.  Rarely does the team that’s had the best season win the tournament and I think we are seeing that here.

Bruddah Java, no you went 2-2, hell I went 1-4.  Many fans, media people, X players and even Las Vegas were in my shoes  Tournaments can be a bitch.  All sporting competition is about preparation & being A+ conditioned, coaches and players making proper adjustments and having a killer mindset (strong mental game).  Yep, Ole Miss, Miami, Oregon had all these things going.  Indiana had it all season, just an amazing team.

But, in any tournament, after each round the winning teams must regroup and put it all together again.  Tournaments are so hard.  Let’s see how the 4 winning teams in da semi’s is able to hold onto their winning formula.

PS.  Remember TCU 2 years ago, they won a hard game vs Michigan in da semi’s.  Then in the finals got smoked by UGA 65-7.  TCU did not have anything left after the Michigan game.  Yeah, tennis tournaments are very tough, I’ve played many over da decades.  Shoot to win one is very hard, making da semi’s is a feat…  Cheers
