Was that Maiava was going to be the starter at USC for one year one way or the other.   Either he’d be mediocre and transfer out after a year of playing time. Or he’d be great and go to the NfL

after reviewing him a year imo he’s neither.  Hes awkward.  Gangly.  Does not escape the pass rush  well.    He goes into funks where he can’t hit the ocean falling out of a boat and occasionally makes dangerously bad throws.

I think his success is the product of Riley’s system.    Meaning I don’t think he projects highly in the nfl draft.   I may be wrong there.

oh. He also has a 3/4 arm motion and delivery that makes for passes to be easily blocked.  And doesn’t throw well on the run   I think his receivers have bailed him out a lot and Riley too.  I don’t mean to be negative.  Think he’s been better than miller miss.  Who would always find the worst time to throw a pick 6 or int to seal a game.  And had no mobility.

so I ask you.  Going into 2026.  Does USC give the starting job to Husan.  Knowing their schedule is insane. Or.  Knowing that by next fall Maiava will have about 25-30 college starts and that’s a making number for experience.  Do you stay w him one more year.  Thinking that Longstreet might bail?

or do you switch knowing Longstreet has the ability to run.  Make guys miss and be a game breaking player?   But likely as a redshirt frosh against that schedule will get mauled a few times?

Maiava tops the B1g in passing yards, and is top 3 in most offensive categories. I don’t know that we can hang any of the three losses on him. Unlike Moss. I would like to see Husan play a little before I make up my mind on him. Right now, I would welcome Maiva back, if Husan leaves roll with the Fr and a portal back up.

Riley answered the Husan question right here: ( Encouraging Husan to be patient).

That was a pretty long answer.  Little bit of a message too.  He’s going to try to juggle both of them.   I think that Longstreet has played few enough games to redshirt so I would guess next year if they have some games where they like their defense and have some 2-3 td leads they would use him.  Or bring him in for some packages.

problem is the book on him is he’s a runner so those packages will have to showcase some passing to keep the defense honest
