Very nice job posting that neat schedule.  Agree I love the graphics Mucho.  Thanxs very much Bruddah Pasadena for your contribution to our SS CIF FB playoffs. Hell, the entire CIF, SS CIF, Central CIF, NS CIF produce top FB teams and players. We should be very proud of all our Calif teams and players… Cheers

Hell, the entire CIF, SS CIF, Central CIF, NS CIF produce top FB teams and players.  Shoot, forgot to include San Diego CIF and Sacramento CIF, these 2 areas are big time producers of top players and teams too.  Fight On & a Big Shaka to our CIF teams and players…  Cheers

Are these divisions by geography?   I thought they were by school size but it seems like in some.  Many they’re playing trams in their own region a lot

Geography convenience has zero bearing with the SS CIF when it comes to placing teams in the 14 Divisions.  There have been teams in one of the smaller division dat had to travel far.

One game, a Santa Barbara team traveled down to the Palm Springs area.

Another game, a team from Orange County traveled to Ventura.

Teams from Lompoc, Paso Robles and Bakersfield were once in the SS CIF but no more.  It was crazy and too long of a distance.  At that time the SS CIF geography stretched from north to south: Paso Robles to Temecula.  East: Lancaster, Barstow and Palm Springs.  Man the SS CIF covered a Big area.

Presently, the geography limits: north Santa Barbara to Temecula. East the same.

The SS CIF, NS CIF, CS CIF (Central) use the computer server by Calprep.com, rankings by Maxprep, ESPN and Sports Illustrated. The computer rank the teams via, strength of schedule, quality wins and losses = Power Rankings. Then places them into the 14 Divisions for the playoffs.

This CIF designation system does not consider the size of school and student body…  Cheers

PS.  Man I am exhausted and tired.  My wife and I have been getting our house cleaned up for Thanksgiving for the last 5 days.  We are done (Pau).  Weds we will start prepping on the food side and get up early Thursday to put in the bird and get down the real cooking.  We normally eat around 2:00 pm.  We are having our daughter, son in-law, grandson and girlfriend.  Our guess will be watching FB games on TV.  But, our daughter will help out in the kitchen…  Happy Thanksgiving everyone at WW…  Cheers

Does that mean their division assignment isn’t known until playoff time?

not considering school size seems a little crazy. I remember one year our Apple Valley Christian baseball team with the school size that I think had 25 boys between grades nine through 12 so I think the total population of the high school was 60 or 70 kids. Played if I recall, Indio high school   Again in the baseball playoffs and Indy high school had 3000 students  little nutty there

At the end of every season, teams are evaluated & ranked thru the Power Rankings matrics for the next year.  After the CIF State games, teams will get evaluated by the CalPrep computer and re-ranked.  By March of 2026 or sooner, teams will know what division they will be in for the 2026 FB season.  Look at San Clemente and Los Al, just 3 yrs ago they were in D-1, Mission Viejo D-2, Sierra Canyon D-3.  Oaks Christians 8 yrs ago cracked D-1, now they are in D-4.  The dynamics of rankings changes annually.

Palmdale HS has a student body of 3,300 and they are now in D-11, once a D-3 power.  Quartz Hill has student body of 3,100 are in D-9, back in 1988 to 1991 was a power in D-1, so was Antelope Valley HS, 3,300 students now in D-13 and once a power in D-1.

In all, public CIF HS has been greatly affected by the hight cost of fielding a FB team.  Whereas, the high power private schools (Catholic) pretty much give free rides to top players, but they must commute long hours every day.  These private schools have wealthy Booster Club members with deep pockets.  Java rants that private schools recruits, but only maybe 40%, the other 60% top players reaches out to these schools if they can transfer and get a free ride.  If they get accepted, their cost is finding transportation which is no small cost.  Many times parents can not arrange transportation and their top & talented kid must play for their local HS.  Dat’s the nature of Calif. HS FB these current times…  Cheers

Whether it’s recruiting or kids pursuing it’s still kids as you said. Out of the area.  Free rides.  And more.  And the recruiting doesn’t officially happen through coaches.  It’s parents n boosters and pop warner coaches that stay in the kids lives.  They all act as buffers between the kid and the hs coach. That way no one officially is recruiting

Over the years, Antelope Valley have lost many top FB players to schools in our Santa Clarita Valley, SF Valley private schools: Sierra Canyon, Chaminade, Alemany, Notre Dame & Oaks Christians because they could not afford playing for their local schools.  They are willing to commute long hours for a free ride to play FB.

I’ve talked to coaches from the poorer public schools who said there are many athletic kids who can’t afford to play FB.  These coaches try to help with 1/2 the cost via Booster Clubs funds, but even with the subsidy families just can not come up with their 1/2 share.  Sad.  These coaches are frustrated seeing all these talent go to waste.

Dat’s why the private schools FB teams are so good, they are getting public HS top talent coming in from outside their area.  Unfair, nope.  It’s pure economics for the public HS kids…  Cheers

That’s true.  Coach B years ago was a powerhouse coach at Santa Ana hs and the demographics changed

he used to be able to go on about all the elements it took to building a winning program.  And a strong booster program w fund. Raising was top of list.   Amazing how mater dei can travel so much.  I have to assume that the tv money they get from those travel games has to pay for a lot of that.  But that’s some huge money to travel to Florida.  Hawaii.  Nevada.  Sometimes a couple big trips a year
