      pros

      • He’s cut down on stupid penalties.
Until puntergate he hasn’t embarrassed us
      • decent front man for the band. Kind of dry/bland but not a dick
      • recruiting SoCal again. That was genius 🤦‍♂️

      cons

      • he can’t coach a great run game. I know numbers say otherwise but I think they are wrong. I’ll explain.we get 2/3 three and outs every half it seems. Now ask why???? It’s because his run game is highly simplified zone blocking. It’s the most basic way. Whenever he pulls and traps it works very well but he rarely does.
CLR is 1 yard, 3 yards, 11, yards, 0 yards, 1 yard etc
      • we need a more sophisticated run game especially with evenly matched talent.
we aren’t talented enough to be basic. They need to be schemed up
      • you adjust per game averages and take out patsies then the run game looks much more pedestrian
      • defensive is similar. Basic 4 man rushers almost exclusively. these dudes arnt the wild bunch 3. They are best of CLR tenure but they are still a B rating. Good. Far from dominate. They need scheme help
      • other issue is scheme. Again super simplified. Rarely stunt or mix things up. Pass rushing Stunts work pretty well against us why don’t we mix it up?

Did you enjoy the win though?

Much as I like the guy.  I’ll counter.

If I see another ineligible center downfield wandering around.  Bringing back another td or 40 yard gain.  I’m going to pour salt in my eyes.  3 this season is 3 too many

he’s boring and he’s a liar   He’s paranoid and we learn nothing from him   And whatever   His job is to win   Not entertain   But he’s not entertaining   At all   And his post game press conferences suck

recruiting so cal was chads idea   Probably actually the original Chad  the wr coach   Then Bowen    Riley was coming up to speed in this new era way too slowly  good for UsC to see that and act on it

Run game tomato tomahto   I think what he can’t or hasn’t coached so far is the short run game  and I believe that’s largely the fault of the shot gun and trying to run short yardage out of it

If you take out the patsies this team averages 31 points a game  and I think they have about 3-4 pick 6 this year   Fitzgerald I think has 2 and the fat kid had one   Might have had one more   Take those out and they’re at 28 a game offensively against real teams   Not great

Defense  key word was best of his tenure but still room to improve   I agree but it’s way better   We never saw shut outs in a half or 3 points allowed to teams like Nebraska Iowa northwestern   Physical teams   So that’s a plus

USC plays base to start and as the game wears on they do mix scheme and blitzes up   I assume they want to see the opponents whole playbook against their base before they go start taking chances Willy nilly  once you know what an opponent will do when you show them personnel and formation combinations it becomes easier to risk things later   Every scheme and every blitz involves exposing yourself somewhere     If you know how the opponent will react then you can chose a package where they’re not attacking your under belly

USC scored more points against Iowa than Oregon  in worse weather   And held Iowa to similar offensive output    They scored 3 times each game. The difference is they got a fg versus a td v usc and at the end of the game they went for 2 and failed   Ultimately costing them the game   Didn’t need to against usc   They scored 9 on a fg and td versus Oregon in the 4q

I don’t expect USC to beat UO and I don’t think it will be close   But I’m seeing stuff like the Michigan game   The recruiting class   The road win v Neb    And this brutal wet war yesterday.  IOW has lost to Oregon and Indiana.  Two really good teams.  20-15 to Indiana and they were ahead in the 4th.

so stuff doesn’t happen all at once but I think you have to ask.  Is progress being made on both sides of the ball?   I’d say given the OL and RB injuries and lack of depth. Yes.  If progress being made defensively?  Yes.   Is the coaching good?  I think so. We all second guess but I see talent being developed.  And last.  Is talent being brought on campus and developed.  I’d yes a measured yes.  It takes 3 years and USC got religion about a year ago.

I’m not Losing it on ineligible downfield blocker. The ones I’ve seen are borderline and I can see that we have some dudes who want to help get Their teammates into the endzone. I can live with That.

they all lie. It’s a matter of scale. I’m ok with being paranoid.

Yes I know Chad and Jen reminded CLR what the SC in USC meant. I was being sarcastic.

results say, defensively,  we did something massively different in 2nd half vs 1st. I just didn’t see it myself. And I was paying attention. again very simple approach. Lynn needs to show more on his schemes IMO.

yes we are better today then last year. Record shows that. Eye test shows it. Recruiting class rankings show it.
those are all positives. Doenst Mean things are excellent and last few years are lows I hope we never go through again.

CLR was a big toe being inbounds away from losing this game with 3 TOs in his pocket. I think he needed to use one at the 4 min mark to save some time in case Iowa did score.

CLR loses yesterday, in a close one, and I think he gets canned. Glad we got lucky

I think we finish season very disappointed. Oregon embarrass  us and ucla beats us in a close one.  Hope im dead wrong.
If coaches were better at schemes and coaching at LOS  I think we keep Oregon interesting and we beat ucla handily.

There is zero chance Riley was coaching for his job yesterday. None.

last few years are low you hope to never repeat?  Same thing people said every year of helton. Including rose bowl and CCG years.  And under kiffin and sark.  Worst defenses ever.  Nepotism etc.  Yawn. Riley is doing fine

Oregon beats USC because they are better.  They are more consistent.  They play 60 minutes and they are playing at home.  They are deeper and have more talent.  This year.  That gap is closing

I don’t agree on ucla and if he loses to them you’ll hear the wolves howl.  I still say usc is new at 9-3 as I did all year.    I also said 8-4 or 9-3 is what it would take to hold this recruiting class.   And in fact that’s what’s happening.

I mean things will always be debated.
Hugs lack of success after Darnold was telling. Maybe the naysayers were right. I am saying same thing right now. CLR is having a good season on paper. I see Major scheme issues. That will keep us from getting to where we want to go long term.

Btw, Who were Rose Bowl and CCG MVP? That dude who sucks?

I have. Never  said Sam sucks.  Liar

I said he had a Turnover problem in college and if he didn’t correct that he’s regret it.  Surprise!  How’s that worked out?

I said he could use another year of college.  Probably doesn’t get cut 5 times if he had developed more.

Sam and Helton had an offense than ran up and down the field. Dominated TOP but couldn’t put as many points on the board as they should because he pissed away too many possessions.  Still was a great college player.

when you get drafted 3rd overall you’re headed to the HOF.  Thsts the expectation.  Do the math on inductions per year.  It’s more than 3.  At the least you should have a career full of all pro and pro bowls.  As a qb you are expected to win and lead your team. To make them better.  To be part of a rebuild.  Sam has shown he can be a good qb for an already good team.  Caleb Williams is taking a horrible team and making them winners.  Playoff contenders.  Good for him.

Sams getting paid.  Good for Sam

As to Riley  he’s 8-2 and his losses are pretty easily explained.  Heck notre dame has explained away two losses.    All USC has to do from now through spring is beat ucla.  Hold the class together.  Look decent in a bowl and not get killed on transfers.

if they beat UCLA and win their bowl that’s a 10-3 year coming out of the B 10 and likely a top 15 ranking

definite improvement there   On the downside   Lose all 3 and USC finishes 8-5 and feels like the last two years

We’re having two different conversations. As usual.
i’m talking about how we end the year at 10 and three and you’re talking the most basic what if scenarios. I to can do schedule math.

coaches need to improve their scheme at the line of scrimmage. Team and talent is just not there to go basic vanilla designs. Run game needs more traps and pulls And Defensive line needs more stunts and blitzes.
