ParticipantCollege teams that need a HC by power rankings. Anyone want to predict who be the next HC for these schools? I will give a stab with only 3 teams. The others are too hard.
1. LSU. Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss
2. Penn St. Curt Cignetti, Indiana
3. Florida. Eli Drinkwitz, Mizzu
4. Arkansas. Bobby Petrino, current interim HC
5. UCLA. Jedd Fisch, UDub
6. Virginia Tech. James Franklin, X Penn St
7. Stanford. Greg Roman, OC SD Charges, strong ties to AD Andrew Luck
8. Oklahoma St. Zac Robinson, OC Atlanta Falcons, former QB at OK St
9. Oregon St. Will Stein, OC Oregon

KeymasterGood picks. I think fish has better choices than ucla. Uw being one. I don’t think bucks has the resources to hike the kind of program Fisch deserves.
Cignetti is 64. Just signed an 8 year deal. One of the highest paid in the country. I think like most coaches he will be done by 70. And would rather not take on a rebuilding situation at Penn State, but would rather ride what he’s already built in the Big Ten. If he had not signed that extension, I might entertain it. But that extension also has some pretty hefty buyouts For him to leave from what I read
so for example, does State Penn really want to pay Franklin $54 million not to coach. Sign Cignetti for 100 million over let’s say seven years? That’s 14 million a year. he would demand it all be guaranteed and I think they would have to buy him out at the rate of about 25 million
do you see State penn committing 179 million to replacing their coach? Maybe but I don’t

ParticipantOK, was not familiar with C. Cignetti new contract and his buy out at Indiana. But, Penn St should find a way to get him, even with the cost & age (64). I can see him coaching until 74 yrs old, look at him he looks good (in shape). The man is one dam A+ HC, a Winner. Indiana has nothing but 3* to no stars type players, but they play tuff, mean D. Add, high scoring O He has nothing been successful at every college he has coached. What’s amazing he turns around a losing team in his 1st year.
C. Cignetti comes from a coaching tree. His dad, Frank Cignetti was a top HC and his brother too. He played QB and was a very good one back in the early 80’s.
Penn St should suck it up and go for C. Cignetti, they won’t regret da move… Cheers

ParticipantHey bro a nice list of coaches. Here’s what I do know regarding Jed Fisch:
I posted the week Foster got canned that Fisch would be the next HC at UCLA. At that same time Ucla had already reached out to Fisch and he’s definitely interested. It’s also no secret that his wife cannot stand living in Seattle. Obviously negotiations have been kept quiet because we are in the middle of the season.
Jed really likes UCLA and the Southern Cal area where he recruits well, and Ucla has the money, although they will have to raise the bar for assistants. Right now I would put the probability at 75% he’s coming to Westwood. Stay tuned we shall see.
Personally I would much rather see UCLA bring in Jason Eck but that’s not going to happen.

ParticipantBruddah RWC, Shoot UCLA would be a top 15 FB team in 2 years under C. Fisch, guaranty. Hope your bag men pool their moola and go All In for C. Fisch. I put C. Fisch, UDub and C. Kenny Dillingham, ASU in Top 8 HC in college FB.
Why do you like C. Jason Eck, New Mexico? He has been HC for what 4 years with above average records, Idaho and New Mexico… Cheers
PS. Seattle & Tacoma area are very beautiful May to mid November. The other months dreary, cold, mucho rain, little Sun Shine. Shoot Mrs. Fisch should have seen the nice months of Seattle; wonder why she does not like the area?

ParticipantDon’t get me wrong, Fisch is a good coach and if he comes I’m not complaining. I like Jason Eck for a number of reasons, he’s shown that he can turn programs around quickly, known for building powerful offenses, one of the best recruiters in the Country and develops strong relationships with players and families.
He took University of Idaho to back to back FCS playoff appearances in just 3 seasons. At Minnesota St he won two Northern Sun intercollegiate conference championships and went to the divisional NC game. They’re loving him at NM right now.
Eck is exactly the kind of coach UCLA needs right now who can come in and bring consistency and winning. Plus it would be a step up for him coming to a major program, whereas for Fisch it’s more of a lateral move.
I remember the critics didn’t like the Dick Vermeil hire at UCLA and how did that turnout LOL. Difference now of course they can make so much money coaching college they don’t have to bolt for the NFL.

ParticipantYeah, that ‘wife hates Seattle’ narrative is taking on a life of it’s own. I have only read what the family has said, but it makes too much sense as it is not ‘juicy’ enough, so something has to be made up, not that it is fact, but more to keep the low information people engaged. If you repeat that tale enough times, it becomes true. If there is any quote stating the wife hates Seattle, I haven’t seen it. could you provide us with some sort of ‘reliable’ source?
I don’t care that much as coaches nowadays are more vagabond than ever and Fisch has always moved around. Who knows how long he will stay but it is funny that many believe the wife is calling the shots on which job to take and which job not to. I have maintained that Fisch’s goal is the NFL. Is the wife going to nix a job in Chicago? Green Bay, New England, Buffalo, etc? She married a guy full well knowing that moves are part of the business and if she is the decision maker, Fisch could probably take a job at a JC in Arizona or something and have the stability for a long term situation in a place she would ‘approve’…

ParticipantFor a long time, UDub struggled with their HC. Then, they got A+ HC DeBoer for only 3 years and now A+ HC Fisch. It would be sad if C. Fisch took another job. These 2 coaches got the Max out of their average talent. They got them to play great FB. I’m a big fan of both coaches.
Hell, UDub is a very dangerous team dis year under C. Fisch. If I were Oregon coaches & players, I would be thinking hard and long about their game vs UDub (last regular season game).

ParticipantFirst, Deboer was at UW for only 2 years.
Second, UW took a couple of ‘gambles’ with Neuheisel and Sark. Like Cignetti, they had 2 good/very good seasons but they started to falter starting with their 3rd seasons. Now, I don’t necessarily see that for Cignetti, but it will be interesting to follow.
Ty Willingham was a disaster even before the beginning. Nobody I know thought it was nothing except a terrible choice and even he lasted 1 year longer than he should have.
I guess you forgot about Petersen 2014 – 2019. 2 conference championships, 3 BCS bowl appearances and a CFP appearance in 6 seasons after taking over a very unbalanced roster under Sark. Too bad he didn’t like what he was seeing with college football moving forward, from a coaching standpoint. I get it. I came to the same conclusion as a fan.
As far as Fisch goes, we will see what happens if he stays at UW for more than a few seasons. If he heads off elsewhere, UW will find another one. I am not as invested/engaged as I used to be but still like the game of football and enjoy the atmosphere of a college football stadium.

LA DuckParticipantAn A+ with Fisch??? Totally forgot that Fisch took UW to the playoffs last year….lol. If Fisch wins out and somehow makes the playoffs this season, I’d give him a B+ overall collectively at UW.
Butkus51, we quacks are actually thinking hard and long about our game vs USC at Autzen. First things first. Funny thing is arguably Oregon’s been better on the road than at home this season so far…our next game at Iowa in 2 weeks will either reinforce or refute that assertion.
Not to say playing at Husky Stadium will be easy, it won’t. But neither will beating USC at Autzen this season.

ParticipantBruddah LA Duck, OK, maybe an A+ grade is too high, adjusted down to an A. C. Fisch win games with average talent. He get his boys play physical FB. His QB’s are not highly recruited (Fifita-Zona & Williams-UDub), but somehow he develops them into very good QB’s. I can only imagine if he had the top talent of Ohio St, Texas, UGA, LSU, Bama and Oregon? Shoot top 5 for sure. The man is a top HC.
UDub is lucky to have him. But, I do not see him there much longer… Cheers
PS. Oregon vs USC, you guys are the big favorites at home. If USC pulls out a W, dat would be a Big Upset. USC has big problems with the D. I think by next year, USC should be better and a force in the B1G. But, the D must be much better. They will have the talent to get in the CFP…

Old PuebloParticipantFisch is a strange dude, or maybe not. He’s definitely a bag chaser, i don’t believe he’s going to stay anywhere for a long time. He’s got ambition and kinda an F everyone attitude. He ripped the hearts out in tucson and took some good players out of the Pueblo. I guess we’ll see. Not a fan as you could guess.

So Lincoln Riley has ambition and kinda an F everyone attitude for taking the USC job and took good players (ie. Caleb Williams) out of Norman?
Hypocrite much or are you just ignoring the current state of college football?

KeymasterUSC isn’t beating Oregon on the road
talent level is still two years away from being even. And that assumes usc keeps recruiting at this levels and doesn’t churn kids.
and that both staffs remain as they are. There’s only a 20% chance two years from now that the coordinators and head coaches for both teams remain. And a 50% both head coaches will still be in place.
assuming they are. I think USC will be on par with coaching. On part with athletes. And will have them in the system long for maturity. Oregon entered this season 3 years ahead of usc in that regard and I think USC has done well enough that with this trajectory of organization coaching and recruiting that they can go toe to toe with UO in 2027 or 2028. Not until then. Unless someone at USC takes a major leap or lanning sh the bed

ParticipantBut you are leaving out the coaches that are sitting and who their replacements would be. The coaching change season is always intriguing and I just pay attention to the rumors, but not that interested in that many others. Who would replace Fisch at UW?

ParticipantHey mandb your words not mine.
It’s funny that many believe the wife is calling the shots on which job to take and which job not to >
Ultimately he will decide not her. I simply said she doesn’t like living in Seattle and that’s a fact. What do you need a sworn statement from a notary as a source? She’s living in Ariz. with the two daughters while he’s coaching in Washington.
I have maintained Fisch’s goal is the NFL>
Really? Could you provide us with some reliable source? You know how it is, something has to be made up, not that it is fact but more to keep the low information crowd engaged, right?

Participant“…and that’s a fact.”
Your words not mine and you still have not provided any real source, not a sworn statement from a notary, but something credible that does not include anonymous sources, friend of a friend or from message boards. If it is ‘fact’, I am sure there is a link where your read/heard it yourself.
What is fact is the daughters want to finish HS with the friends they made there (yes, both are in HS), not because they ‘hate’ Seattle. They said that in an interview was the reason when they enrolled in school down there. That is not unusual. The family still attends all the games.
