Participantin my entire time covering college football I have never heard of a team having seven turnovers and not losing by 40 or 50 points. Ucla gains seven turnovers off the Oregon offense and you can only manage 17 points. Unbelievable

ParticipantThey squandered some opportunities no question but the Oregon defense played very well and the fact that UCLA lost their starting QB had something to do with that don’t you think?
What amazes me more is how poorly Oregon’s QB played and the inability to move the ball against the UCLA defense. That was among the top 2 defensive performances I have ever seen against the Ducks at Autzen. The other was last year when Indiana came in and stuffed Lanning’s team. BTW I lost a $500 bet I made at Mandalay Bay on that game last year taking the Ducks and giving up 10 pts. but that’s for another story.
Speaking of Lanning he’s a stupid coach
Example: When Oregon recovered Nico’s fumble at the one yd. line in the first qtr. and scored to go up 6-3 why would he go for two in that situation? It failed. There was absolutely no reason to go for two that early in the game and it came back to bite Lanning in the ass.

ParticipantAgree with you on the decision to go for two so early in the game. I’d like to hear what he was thinking.
I have rarely seen a QB perform as badly as Raiola did yesterday. True, he was under a lot of pressure most of the time, but his choices on where to go with the ball were consistently bad and I’ve never seen a QB throw more uncatchable balls.
BTW, to respond to something in another thread, Iamaleava played almost the entire first half and left with the score 10-6.

TEEParticipantAll good posts. Bad coaching and bad QB play. Worse than bad actually. And how do you have 7 turnovers? Good grief.

ParticipantWere you around for the 1975 SC-UCLA game, TJ? UCLA fumbled 11 times, lost 8 of them, threw an interception, and still managed to win, 25-22, in McKay’s last game in the Coliseum before moving to Tampa Bay. I wonder what the “prediction markets” would have said about the likelihood of that outcome.

ParticipantSC gator – i was around but only in 7th grade. My father took me to watch SC practice back when I was 5 – 10 yrs old but only got to go to a few games before I became an SC student. What I recall is that McKay, whose home wasn’t far from my childhood home, left for the NFL at the end of that season, so maybe he was checked out – who knows but that was a choke, gag… good bruin team. Give you an idea about my family – my father coached college basketball. I was a baseball, football and eventually jc tennis player. I tried to make SC’s team and got smoked by a kid named Matt Anger. He was number 1 in the country at that time and went on to coach UW. Anyway my senior year my father is dying from a long illness. He’s in the hospital and not coming out. He loved SC but was also a joke. I had to pay for school so any scholie was needed. I was about to be offered a tour of Ucla with their tennis coaches that could lead to a ride. I told my dad and he responded “over my dead body.” God love him and fight on.
Thanks for the reminder on that 11 T.O. loss to the bruins.
