23 years and counting since an American won the US Open or any Major for that matter.
Ben Shelton made a great run to the Finals but obviously was a little drained after winning a grueling 5 set marathon with Carlos in the quarters that ended at 3:30 am. Some really poor scheduling by the tournament committee with a start time of 10:30 pm because the women’s match that preceded started way too late. I guess NY isn’t named the city that never sleeps for nothing.
Ben had to bounce back to beat Tiafoe in the semi’s, and without much rest for the weary, Zverev was waiting for him in the Final. Game over.
USA has some really good players for the future, with Shelton, Tien and Michelson. I’m done with Fritz and Paul they are the same every time. One of those first three will break through but it won’t be easy with Alcaraz , Sinner and Zverev who really stepped up this year.
