      Game went pretty much as expected.   I guessed 42 to 14 before kickoff.  Didn’t expect SC to cover.  But I don’t gamble either.

      Not a single player at San Jose would have even given a recruiting visit to USC.

      Offense was bland and showed nothing.   The 5 star tight end was meh.

      Defense showed a pathetic secondary and inability to get to the quarterback.  I was hoping Patterson would have some magic to add, but SC simply doesn’t have the players to be a top defense.   Youth and inexperience dominated.  Lots of stuff to fix .

      The good news was special teams weren’t really noticeable.   Compared to sucking donkey dicks since 162 showed up is a vast improvement.  Who knew Big Jenn actually had to force CLR to get a special teams coach.   Was really nice to see.

      Didn’t notice any major injuries.  I’ll take that any day.

      Backup quarterback looked like a freshman but revealed some skills that should allow 162 to let Maiava use his feet more than last season.  Will puckerbutt actually play to win this season?  who knows.

      I see a team that should win 9 games.  expect 8. would be thrilled to win 10.    Will be fun to watch.  sc

        They are fun to watch.  Won’t blow out anyone good .  A lot of close games.

        I like watching football teams that can run the football.  These backs are good.  Line seems solid.

        If you didn’t go to SC which you didn’t, and you don’t like anything about the team,  why do you bother watching?

        being short, fat and always having loads of laundry to do my little yellow friend should keep your busy even if you can’t afford to live in California anymore.     sc

      Arizona HC Brennan cane from sjsu. He was  buying meals for the team out of pocket.  they don’t have much NIL. SC was noticeably bigger. I don’t think that’s a good gauge for the season.  But a win is a win.

      Guys, it was exactly what was to be expected, get the lead and then work on stuff and plug guys in during a real game to see what needs to be tweaked down the road.  A 90-0 bloodbath does absolutely nothing other than bring attention to the mismatch and then make the narrative about USC scheduling cupcakes, blah blah blah.  Not to mention giving your opponents a ton of film to scout.  Take the W and worry about the mighty Fresno state next weekend, the juggernaut that is Louisiana the week after, and then big, bad Rutgers before the gauntlet that follows.  You guys would bitch if you were hung with a new rope.

      Our O is gonna be top 5, no question.  DC Patterson 1st string is better than previous S.LR teams.  But, they still play soft, too many missed tackles, make mistakes, blown coverage, the center field was open and SJ St saw dat.  After seeing dis game, USC D must improve on physicality, tackling, speed, reaction-eye hand twitch.  After one game, I do no believe USC makes the CFP.  Man DC Patterson has a lot of work to do

      Our top players in the SJ St game.  QB Maiava, RB’s, OL, Wr’s, TE’s.  Noticed how good Mark Bowman blocks.  Now, C.LR must incorporate him into the passing routes (I know it’s coming, hiding him for now).  On D: DL Abasiri, LB Bryant, S. P.Brown, N. A. Graham, S. C.Pierce, CB. Hill.  The front 4 played well, but no QB sacks, good penatration, run stoppers, but saw missed tackles.

      Our 2nd string players needs a lot of work still.  OK, they are young, Fr and Soph, gonna give them a pass.  Someone boasted dat 16 Fr played yesterday trying to point out dat was impressive.  Sure it was, but no team in the history of sports has won a championship with young players.  I would say, almost 100% of championship teams are filled with Sr’s and Jr’s.  Yeah, our young team showed it has a long ways to go and develop…  Cheers

      Offense = A

      Defense = B.  1st string

      2nd string D players = F.  They were bad in mop up duties.

        Agree mostly with your take Butkus, but disagree on your “non playoff team” view.  Had USC started the 3rd quarter with their offense last year instead of their defense then Riley would have been tiring our opponents defense instead of our own and SC would have made the playoffs.  Riley’s mind is still in the old Big 12 when OU and Texas had all the talent.  His stupidity in going on offense when SC won the coin flip cost SC a playoff berth.  This year’s team is more talented but Riley hasn’t learned to defer to the second half every time SC wins the coin flip.  He is a very slow learner.
