What, exactly, has changed for your program since evil Ed Obannon ruined the game, other than letting other programs buy players?

I have been sitting here at the beach enjoying the beauty of California and thinking about this very subject of NIL. I had not thought to blame O’Bannon because that seems like shallow thinking. I play in the deep end of every pool. Less pee in the deep end.

More to the point, in the recent past the TV contracts have scaled into the tens of billions. TENS OF BILLIONS! Seriously, TENS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS.

Schools started paying coaches $8, $10 million dollars a year, $100 million dollar contracts. And some of those coaches were mediocre. So the players started thinking, WTF is going in here. Can you blame them? Human nature is to want to get paid, unless you are a socialist or communist and believe every one should make the same. I’m a capitalist who believes in free markets.

The pie got too big. If anyone is to be blamed it is the school administrators who lacked the discipline and self control. I would blame Oregon before O’Bannon. Oregon started breaking bread before anyone else. Of course the SEC did it under the table for decades.

I’m an alum and fan of a big bag school and that makes me happy. In America the poor are always screwed. Don’t be poor.

Yeah BB this is the surface level take you typically have.

you think you split the atom and all you did was make fake lava for your science experiment. But I do agree coaches were starting to get much bigger money as did TV and that money needs to go somewhere.

but NIL ruling established rights for players to get paid and thus they became w2 employees with all rights inherent in that. That led to the transfer portal era with little oversight and any necessary guardrails because w2 folks have those rights in job market. It was instant chaos and we still live with it today. Don’t like 5-10k players enter every year? Kids opting out of bowl games for transfer reasons? Kids allowed to transfer DURING bowl season? Small schools like JMU and Tulane getting raided by ucla etc.s small schools becoming even more obsolete? Bowl games becoming obsolete? kids playing for 3-4 schools? Kids having no loyalty and so why should a fan base? The/OUR pac12 has been destroyed. Yeah!!! 🤦‍♂️ players declaring for draft & gp

to training camp and then go back to college if they don’t make the team? Hoopers playing in nba and now going back to college to play on a college team? Yeah things are GREAT!!!

the game isn’t stronger no matter what they are trying to sell us. $20 minimum wage won’t raise prices or drive businesses away. Remember we were told Nike was right. As was Bud Light. USC was paying Reggie. 🤦‍♂️ Biden was coherent and sharp as a tack. Fauci wasn’t lying. Trump was a Russian asset. Trump was broke. be careful who and what you believe. Defunding the police will lower crime.

Unintended consequences are a liberal specialty. and no you are not deep thinkers and problem solvers. Just problem makers and then ignore consequences

Oregon?  You guys paid like 120 million, plus a few houses, use of the jet, and whatever other perks you doled out like blowjobs during fleetweek for the most mid coach to oven-burn brisket this side of the Mississippi.

ucla was paying women softball ringed to win nattys 20 years ago. What do you think they paid hoopers and QBs?

I don’t follow women’s sports so I will take your word for it.  And judging by their qb play the last 20 years they bought the qb in a gumball machine.  Not DTR though, he was mucho expensive.  Remember him?

      Pasadena,

Loves: Sam Darnold, Caitlin Clark.              Hates: UCLA, Troy Aikman, Ed O’Bannon, Russell Westbrook, Lewis Alcindor.

Went through this O’Bannon nonsense before, but his original proposal was a good one and fair to student athletes. The Cap was 5 K. Lack of enforcement by the NCAA has fucked it up over the years allowing it to become what it is today.
