      Yes, they were the reason for the 2002 season. It wasn’t because Scott Hatteberg had a good eye, or David Justice was a leader on the bench. Good movie though, strong piece of fiction by omission.

        You miss the point.  The As player above their weight.  Continually.  With cheap players.  I think Miguel tejada  was their SS that year too.

        the influence of the As way of thinking is undeniable.    Jp ricciardi.   Friedman.  Zahidi.   Anthropolous of the Braves.  The guy who built  the cubs Into a champion. All disciples.

        Both things can be true. Moneyball changed the game and how FOs evaluated talent.

        A’s weren’t winning shit or getting movies made or books being written without 3 stud starters.

        But they kept getting studs because they were being awarded draft picks and compensation turning players like Johnny Damon and Jason Giambi into younger players.  they had a great scouting department. They drafted really well. it’s just really hard to compete when other teams also invest in their scouting departments and spend five times as much money as you  I admire the athletics for their contrarian view to finding value
