Last Friday rumors leaked out that USC had gotten a big time silent  verbal commitment from an unnamed top player. Sounds like this might be the guy. It’s an Oregon vs USC battle with Texas on the margins. USC is going to clean up with the top talent in the Golden State. Looks like we are about to flip an Oregon OL commit too. We got our NIL money right. Suk it.

Yes sir, I am ready to concede Honor and Fielder to the Good Men of Troy.

Honor is a definite loss, but we quacks are pretty deep at safety (and RB) right now having grabbed 5-star safeties in the 2025 (McNutt) and 2026 (Washington) recruiting classes.

Fielder was never going to stick with Oregon once he got that USC offer (legacies can be better than a competitive NIL deal many times, yes?)  Surprised he didn’t get one sooner.

Speaking of legacies, frankly I’m surprised Oregon ever picked up Casey Matthews from the USC-loving Matthews family, and who ended up being a really good LBer for Oregon.  But I don’t think you guys even offered him?

The Ducks recruit on a national level these days (and for the last few years) and are no longer reliant on Socal. With that happening and UCLA not even fighting for the top Socal talent,  USC has a wide open freeway to lock up local talent. The talent USC is getting will have us in the playoffs and will get us a national championship soon. 2-3 years. Its going to be fun. I’m ready for it.

Big Balls just curious why you think Chesney is not fighting for top local talent? I know that he’s made it a priority to personally hit all the top local high schools along with his staff in an effort to recruit in Southern Calif.

Although his first year he wants to field a competitive team most of the players they signed have been through the portal, but for the future he’s been explicit about recruiting high school players right here. Getting those guys is another story but that’s the plan.

RWC, it’s just the impression I have of UCLA recruiting at the moment. Certainly Chesney deserves time and the benefit of the doubt. At the moment I don’t see UCLA come up with any of the top HS players. Chesney has two commitments at the moment, LB Davis who has two offers , UCLA and UNLV. The other is Farinas who has a handful of offers but only two from the B1G, Purdue and UCLA. The other offers are Sac State, San Diego State and the like. Looking at their official visit list Charles Davis and Gavin Williams are the only guys USC is actively recruiting that are up for grabs.

I’m interested of how you view the state of recruiting in Westwood,  also I  would like to see ucla football regain some of their previous success.

Yes at the moment he’s only signed a couple local guys but he’s made a huge effort to set his footprint among the top local high schools. To land some of these players he will have to show them something on the field and get UCLA into the conversation of being relevant by winning.

I like everything about him so far, now let’s see if that can transition onto the field. Chesney is getting top local kids on campus for visits with offers going out to players like Dane Weber, Lex Mailanga, Lincoln Mageo, Miles Schirmer, Montana Toilolo, and Josiah Poyer off the top of my head. Perhaps not the elite of the world but some very good talent.

Not saying they will sign with Ucla but the point is Chesney is making himself known locally. He even got Ohio St lock Brady Edmunds to visit just because he was so impressed Chesney came to see him. That would not have happened before he’s just doing things a lot different than his predecessors.

These kids have been recruited for 3-4 years. Since  the 8th grade.    Many were younger teammates of star recruits so they were seen.

they are all ready to make commitments based on those relationships since 2022 or so.

Chaney steps in at ucla with no resume in d1 to speak of.  No west coast experience at all.   And no nfl pedigree.  And he’s supposed to flip kids in his first month on the job?   Based on what?   UCLA’s massive $$$ from that empty stadium?   From laying kal alimony?

he needs to win some games with transfers and then sell kids who are presently sophomores.   People criticize coaches and want to fire them year to year.  They don’t realize that while they wanted to fire Riley every year and criticized him for his lack of local presence.  Now that it’s been 4 years.  He now has a local presence.  Takes time.

riley and outsiders will clean up the talent this year and Chesney hopefully for ucla can start collecting quality hs talent in the class of 2028.  And then they will come on campus in 28 and probably help in 29.  Takes time to build a program and people who think Cignetti is the model don’t realize he’s the unicorn.  They also don’t realize that Indiana was well on its way organizationally before he ever arrived.  they had good players good coach coaches they even had Michael penix. Cig just  brought it all together

Bruddah RWC, your HC Chesney and staff are pounding down on HS doors in SS CIF.  He is a very hard worker, I bet by next year his hard work will pay off.  Shoot, wish C.LR had 50% of C. Chesney R energy.

I too think you guys got a solid HC…  Cheers
