Nonviolent drug offenders should have never be incarcerated in the first place, nor should the private sector been put in charge of prison. Making a profit off of the incarcerated is wrong, you never here that from republicans.
There is a ton of money in treatment (because it never ends until death), and in letting people lay around in front of society killing themselves slowly. That is why you see it so much these days. The political class has just "moved the needle" , if you will and have simply taken government funding that was earmarked for "privately managed" prisons and transferred it over to government funding for the "privately managed" poverty sector. It's all about how you market to the masses, and how you make the taxpayer feel like the money you are grifting from them goes to help the less fortunate. They lap it up when they think they are contributing to the cure. But, the same people are getting rich off of you and me no matter how you slice it, box it, and sell it, and the same people have the same problems with crime and addiction no matter what, it just matters if you want to see it in your face or not. Honestly, I am sick of seeing it.
