UCLA had a lot more talent that he walked into than USC did. UCLA was a school that had had a bad D and been losers a long time.
USC was supposed to compete for the playoff and failed miserably. As a result there were a lot of unhappy people who needed to be shuffled in and out. It's sort of like when Paul Hackett took off and Pete Carroll took over. Hackett had a lot of talent on that roster. Didn't do jack with it.
