The Draft has made it pretty clear

    in WildWest Football Board

That our assistant coaches suck as hard as Helton. We have a bunch of Junior College caliber coaches who turn 4 and 5 star talent into 6th and 7th Round draft picks. The death of USC football is almost complete. Well done Clay. I f’ing hate you.

Good stuff, mandb....sounds like there is reason for optimism in Montlake. I only caught a little of your spring game prior to Oregon's spring game (at least you guys could have fans in attendance unlike in the State of Oregon!!), but you guys looked good on defense, for sure.

I'm guessing by mid-season Huard will take over at QB as a true freshman, perhaps? Seems like that's where your future is, why not start it earlier than later?

As for Otten, the best TE I ever saw play at Autzen was Gronk--a man against boys there in Eugene playing for the Wildcats. Wonder if Otten will be similar?

Yo Mandy/mandb (sorry, thanks to Java's new site your name is now "Mandy" according to auto-correct!) - that is very impressive for Washington the past 5 seasons.

Do you think anything will change in this regard going forward with a new OC, new DC, and with Coach Lake in charge now and with Pete K and Coach Pete moving on? Will be interesting to monitor this to see if anything changes....

We have seen changes, not huge ones but I can not really comment on overall thoughts as last season was just a complete hodge-podge. This is the 2nd season for Lake and OC Donavon but I guess you could lump them in with the a 1st year DC.

So really, this was the staff's 1st spring practice and from the reports, the D was ahead of the O. Really compelling stuff there...

The D could be really good. Deep and talented at both DB and DL/OLB, even with the loss of ZTF for at least much of the season and career ending injury to Laiatu Latu who was really coming as a TrFR. ILB was not good last season but with some younger players stepping up, they probably won't be a liability but still need to prove it.

The O will not be dynamic but needs to be solid. Cade Otten is the best TE in the country.

Stay in your lane, lil fella. UCLA only lost 2 starters and both players were drafted.

Look at the bright side. The USC coaches saved these 4 and 5* players a bunch of money in taxes. Vaughns and Olijah Griffin not even being drafted was a surprise.

@ATLBRUIN Its probably better to not be drafted rather than in the last round. At least you can sign as a free agent at a place that fits you better and you still can get a signing bonus.I am only addressing if you are a last round draft pick situation. Griffin and Vaughn knew going in they might not be drafted

@firenze5 Even if you get drafted in the 7th round, you get a lot more money than the small signing bonus as an UFA.

I know you are not a big fan of looking at the bright side, but this is the most draft picks fr SC in 6 years. And SC is one of only two schools to have a Oline guy drafted in the first round two years in a row.

Gomerball, turning 5* talent into 2* players. sc wastes more talent than any other school in the nation.
