Washington's Kalen DeBoer, who guided the Huskies to a Pac-12 championship and a spot in the College Football Playoff National Championship game this past season, has agreed to a deal to become the next head coach at Alabama, sources told ESPN on Friday.
DeBoer informed the Huskies on Friday he is leaving for Alabama, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel, and a deal is expected to be made official later in the day.
DeBoer, 49, would inherit one of the most coveted jobs in college football -- and one of the most difficult -- in replacing Saban, whose teams won nine SEC titles and six national championships in his 17 seasons at the school. Saban, who had a 206-29 record at Alabama, retired Wednesday.
Nothing 'official' yet but it sure looks like it is a done deal.
Now we start another drama of who the next coach will be. I have mentioned before, I am at the point of college football where I am just a fan and things like this are just part of it. I have always heard coaches want to have the best opportunity to be champions. It has been proven you can do that at UW, but it is so much easier at Alabama.
It will be interesting moving forward, for both programs. I just didn't KDB as a 'fit' for Alabama and if his recruiting doesn't finish in the top 5 every year, they will start howling. Can't lose recruiting wars to UGA, Florida, Auburn, Tennesee, etc.
Of couse we all knew next season there would be a drop off but many were expecting a 8 or 9 win season with the possibility of a 10 win season with a bowl game. But now? It will be interesting to see the roster turnover. Opens up transfers on the current team, signed recruits can get out of their LOI, commited players will look elsewhere, etc.
Until I hear it from Alabama or DeBoer, not gonna buy it.
I fell for the Lanning in Tuscaloosa trick the other night. I was on the roof with my whisky bottle yelling at the neighbors dogs before I realized Dan was in Eugene watching a movie with his kid.

But again, I have just been a fan now.
Their 4th choice? At least. Lanning, Norvell, Sark all got raises
Saban and DeBoer have the same agent.
