Agreed. Just doesn't make long-term sense to have a conference with tOSU, USC, Penn St. along with Illinois, Rutgers, Maryland. I really think Chip Kelly wasn't far off in his thinking....
And this is why I wasn't that worried had the p10 remained and ducks were left in a "loser" conference. As I've said from the beginning when it comes to conference realignment, it's a marathon, not a sprint.
Sooner than later the NCAA will go bye-bye, and we'll see super conferences. College football will end up more minor league than ever before - for better or worse...
I've gotten that feeling. I feel like when the money is either Individualized by school and everyone has theirs.
Or when the schools nationally or in some other way have their revenues decided for them. Through a new organization. Collective bargaining. Tv mandate. Congress. Whatever it is, once the money stuff it decides and it's not a daily money chase anymore?
I see the various conferences getting back together or reforming. Doesn't mean we will ever have a rose bowl as we once knew it. Or that the same teams will be where you think
I think of the break up of Eastern Europe and how for a time there was a trend toward countries breaking up and down further and further. You ended up with all these tiny countries. Perhaps we will someday see the same for conferences. Or a hybrid. Like the big 10 becomes the new para organization instead of the ncaa and you end up with divisions of it as it expands its tv hegemony.
And the new Divisions might be west coast. Great Plains. South. Etc. And look a lot like conferences today
Here's hoping Kal and Stanford had to give up revenues for years to join the club. Bob Bowlsby, here's to you for demanding equal revenue sharing you twat.
Hmmmm. suddenly the religious deal apparently won't be a deal breaker for the bay area schools. Nice to know their "principals" are for sale. Not surprised at all.
Furd has twice as many sports as the ACC offers. Beach Volleyball, water polo ,etc will still play in West Coast Consortiums. But the bigger ones will be doing a lot of travel.
This is optics for them, to say they are in a power conference with some good Academic schools.
They begged, pleaded with the big ten numerous times, No go.
Cals collecting $10 mil from the Bruins each year and the tax man will pay the difference.
Thamel:
I’ve confirmed the revenue distribution for Stanford/Cal:
30 percent the first 7 years. 70 percent in Year 8, 75 percent in Year 9, 100 percent Years 10-12.
This whole thing is a mess.
Media companies are losing money.
Conferences should be regional .
Pac 12 should have added sdsu , unlv Fresno and San Jose state , byu , and booted Colorado years ago. 8 paired rivals .
Enhances traditions . Easy travel.
All the pac needed was competent management.
Will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
Something tells me this is all temporary anyways. College football alliances will look different in 5 years.
No clue what these programs truly bring. Nonone watches any of them. Doubt they bring anything but idiotic travel
