    Ship of fools:

    in WildWest Football Board

I went to the game with a friend who played college football, and was player of the year in his conference.

I asked him why OSU could run over our defense. Each play he diagnosed: someone was out of position (usual the DE) as well as the LBs, as were the DBs. Over and over the same mistake. This team is not poorly coached, it is not coached.

It's like the university itself - a ship run by fools.

    What's wrong with Slovis?

The middle lb is running up the back of the DT instead of filling the gap. The numerous defensive backs can't contain the edges. The entire Dline gets pushed around like rag dolls. The safeties over-run plays and take bag angles in pursuit. Over and over and over again.

And.......as best we could tell, there was no attempt to correct the situation. Also, I'm sure you noticed that we have no defensive or offensive lines. They were pushed around all night.

Aren't these all at least 4 stars?

    @taglcg football isn’t complicated.

It all comes down to matchups . And who dominates those matchup. its that delta that determines games.

the beavers o line push was just this right in front of you all night.

scheme can cover up and attenuate this delta to some extent. Then discipline and mistakes ( turnovers ,penalties , knuckle head plays) can make things interesting and make a great team just good, and so on.

But I always comes down to this delta, This is football.

lit took a long time of only being able to recruit skill guys and a soft serve ice cream culture to get here.

USC foundation was always the trenches. Hasn’t been for a long time.

With new transfer rules , early playing time a real coaching staff only needs a couple years to fix this.

SC fiotball is just mostly dead. sc

@San Clemente You seem to imply this is a talent issue. That occurred to me , too. One of the people we went to the game with, although, said that USC recruitment ranked #10 in the nation for the past several years combined.

@taglcg O lineman LIVE to run block. They get their jollies being bulldozers. Hey don't like pass blocking. So NO elite lineman has wanted anything to do with SC for a few years. Would you? SC became and now is a complete finesse team since Carrol left. Only finesse guys like finesse football. Simple as that. That's why SC can always get the skill guys, but that's now where games are won, with the occasional flex of talent late in games. SC doesn't need anymore freaking receivers. USC needs big uglies and someone to coach everyone up. Entire D is just soft. Secondary is where the talent is there too.

Peterson could do it, may not be flashy enough for the money people at SC. sc
