People criticizing USC for not extending the Notre Dame rivalry clearly don’t understand the new era of college football. With the expanded playoff format, the regular season is now all about getting into the playoffs. For the SEC and BIG, the focus is getting into the top 4 (Or top 6 if play-in games are added).
A road trip to South Bend in late October does USC no favors. A win won’t boost their playoff case, but the travel and physical toll could hurt them in crucial conference games. Hosting Notre Dame in late November isn’t much better as it it would disrupt prep for a potential play-in game, with little impact on playoff selection either way.
USC isn’t trying to end the rivalry, they’re just adapting to the new landscape. My guess? They still want to play Notre Dame, just earlier in the season, where it makes strategic sense.
It’s a simple concept. But the mass public are idiots. They vote for Obongo and think their government loves them.
CFB expert calls USC ridiculous.
